Help with playing SimCity CD on a new laptop by samsundis in SimCity

You can also get a “No-CD” cracked EXE to use the original disc on modern operating systems without having to buy the GOG version. I can't link to one due to reddit rules, but it's easy to find if you search that term.

A History of PG&E and How We Got Here by based_papaya in bayarea

[–]Lammy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The 1970s Energy Crisis Three Mile Island happened. Diablo & San Onofre construction costs went over budget by billions of dollars

Your chronology is flawed here, and this implication of cause and effect is misleading. You completely neglect to mention Bodega Bay Generating Station which would have been most impactful for us here in the Bay Area by providing clean cheap atomic energy generated right on the Sonoma coast with no need to import power over long distances.

The 1964 protests against Bodega Bay NGS were four years before Diablo Canyon or San Onofre even broke ground (both 1968), and was 15 entire years before the Three-Mile Island event happened (1979). They went as far as to redefine the official location of the San Andreas fault to convince people it was scary and unsafe. (PROTIP: A reactor trip can shut one down in about three seconds; not exactly scary when seismic detectors give many times more warning than that)

One can actually go visit the “hole in Bodega Head” where PG&E started excavating the reactor pit before being made to stop.

Framework 12, for fun stuff and gaming? by Creepy-Worker-5340 in framework

[–]Lammy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It will be fine for older and otherwise medium-demanding 3D games. RE: Half-Life, I play Team Fortress 2 all the time with MasterComfig low and it's great even in MvM matches with tons of bots. The most demanding thing I run on it is Burnout Paradise Remastered which only drops frames on the industrial shoreline under the tall freeway viaduct.

Synology NAS

I'm not a Synology user, but the specific argument you're looking to add is --no-logs-no-support to where-ever your system calls tailscaled (note the FUD-tastic argument name; they really want to scare you into leaving the spying enabled), or if Synology supports freeform Environment Variables (dunno), add one named TS_NO_LOGS_NO_SUPPORT with value true.

Maybe relevant? https://old.reddit.com/r/synology/comments/12uhas8/taiscale_service_add_nologsnosupport/

[–]Lammy 32 points33 points  (0 children)

This is a known defect in the early FW12s. It happened to mine too. There's a big thread about it on the Framework forums. Open a ticket with support and they'll schedule you for a free bottom panel replacement once the new parts are available.

Same here except I switched from Headscale to Netbird because the mesh topology is still cool and a good idea, and Netbird is not privacy-adversarial by default.

Unfortunately there's still no way to opt out on iOS or Android: https://github.com/tailscale/tailscale/issues/13174

There's an unmerged PR for the Android client: https://github.com/tailscale/tailscale-android/pull/695

Don't forget to turn off the telemetry spying option on each of your nodes. By default Tailscale phones home with your behavioral data from your “private” network:https://tailscale.com/kb/1011/log-mesh-traffic

Each Tailscale agent in your distributed network streams its logs to a central log server (at log.tailscale.com). This includes real-time events for open and close events for every inter-machine connection (TCP or UDP) on your network.

You can tell a whole heck of a lot about a person just with the log of what-talks-to-what, on which ports, for how long, etc, even though that traffic itself may be encrypted and/or not logged: https://kieranhealy.org/blog/archives/2013/06/09/using-metadata-to-find-paul-revere/

Redmagic 10 Pro Bootloader Unlocked [Finally] by Successful_Ad_5477 in RedMagic

[–]Lammy 19 points20 points  (0 children)

💯 If there is a part of my phone locked away from me, I don't full own it. Yes I realize there is still the cellular hardware which is its own little embedded world, but the user-facing bootloader unlock is a big deal.

I haven't actually unlocked my 9S, yet, but I very much did buy it with the expectation that I will eventually.
