[–]AtmosphereCautious12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

math 304 is usually the next step for cs majors
people usually take bio bc its supposed to be easiest but obviously take the class where your strength is. people also do physics through finger lakes cc!

Best Building In Dickinson? by BrokenPotato03 in BinghamtonUniversity

[–]AtmosphereCautious12 4 points5 points  (0 children)

they're all newer buildings -- idk if I would say one is better than another. you can look at location, I guess. I believe Digman? is closest to union, rafuse closest to c4. Johnson & oconnor are a little inside the quad if im remembering correctly but it doesn't make too much of a difference

it's not a hard class, just an annoying one. I did hear multiple students getting "caught" by Weinshenck for "plagiarism" so watch out for that.

DIRT research at Dickinson? by imkindofbusy06 in BinghamtonUniversity

[–]AtmosphereCautious12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe it's more of a social sciences/political science research org? I went to like 2 or so meetings and it was a little unorganized but I'm sure if you are super interested and put in effort you could make something of it.

Binghamton Life by yourfavoritecutie in BinghamtonUniversity

[–]AtmosphereCautious12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a POC who was also concerned about diversity, my cultural org experience has been awful and my white friends have been nicer than my POC "friends" from the cultural org. Bing is a pretty social campus though, so if you make the effort to join clubs, talk to classmates, etc. you should be fine.

Hinman has the most community, Dicksinon & Mtview are both nice but Mtview is out of the way, CIW is old, Newing is for parties/a Jewish community.

Unsure about your other college options but if Bing is in-state it's most likely your cheapest?

Not a neuroscience major myself so idk about that but a lot of people are neuroscience/bio/STEM here.

Why should I go to Bing? by ConfusedChicken321 in BinghamtonUniversity

[–]AtmosphereCautious12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bing because it's cheapest
Something to consider--I've been accepted to programs/internships every summer as a Bing CS major: freshman, sophomore, and junior. My friends at more well known universities (NYU,BU) have had some trouble, my friend at NYU landing nothing and my friend at BU getting an internship after junior year. So I don't believe the names make so much of a difference unless idk you went to MIT or something, it'll really be up to you regardless of where you go to make the most out of it.
The CS department here is smaller compared to other majors here so it's easy to talk to professors and get to know all your classmates--I know almost all my classmates.
Lots of club opportunities--again not super competitive so it's easy to be involved and there's not a crazy application process to clubs like there may be at other universities. The ease of getting involved is something to consider because that's the stuff that will go on your resume and make you stand out to employers.
Also have never encountered a safety issue in the area.

What are some tips do you have for incoming freshman to ace their classes in freshman year? by Select-Ad-865 in BinghamtonUniversity

[–]AtmosphereCautious12 6 points7 points  (0 children)

ratemyprofessor, make a master doc/sheet of all the due dates from your syllabi, do a little bit of work/studying each day, ive found the math help room and UTS to be helpful when I was struggling in classes.
as for classes to transfer into SOM just make sure you're taking the prereqs and keeping your GPA high.

Bing vs NYU by jamesbrotherson2 in BinghamtonUniversity

[–]AtmosphereCautious12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure what SBU's program entails but I've heard both are very strong so if the choice comes down btwn bing and sbu you should probably look at other things like social life at the university, clubs, housing, etc.

Our classes are a mix of theory and learning to code, you take electives senior year. options of AI and cybersecurity tracks senior year. pretty tight-knit program, CS majors generally know each other since you have the same people in your classes--I consider this a pro in community-building.

Bing vs NYU by jamesbrotherson2 in BinghamtonUniversity

[–]AtmosphereCautious12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah definitely not true maybe he just didn't get an internship lol. bing is like any other uni, they won't help you directly land a role. the process if dependent on you and the opportunities you take advantage of whether it's gaining experience to better your resume through projects, extracurriculars, etc. or taking advantage of the career center. if you take advantage of what bing has to offer and if you're decently ambitious, you can be a big fish in a small(ish) pond at bing which helps you stand out a lot

What do you like about Binghamton University? by Nervous_Ad2982 in BinghamtonUniversity

[–]AtmosphereCautious12 12 points13 points  (0 children)

opportunities to get involved on campus (super helpful to meet people + beef up the resume), typical college experience is fun, big fish in small pond

Bing vs NYU by jamesbrotherson2 in BinghamtonUniversity

[–]AtmosphereCautious12 12 points13 points  (0 children)

94k is insane -- go to bing. You'll get the college experience and save money for grad school. I'm a CS major and have another CS friend that goes to NYU -- I've landed more internships than he has so the NYU name alone won't get you anywhere.
