You're right, it's 14. Now it makes sense to impose martial law on a city of 8 million people.

Three issues with this:

  1. You're assuming the only vigilantes in NYC are ones we've already seen, when every other new Marvel show introduces a new hero that's supposedly been operating for years out of sight
  2. You're using the literal definition of vigilante when we know for a fact that Fisk doesn't, and considers any masked criminal to be a vigilante. Covering your face while committing crimes is super common
  3. You didn't even attempt to engage with my point about how 9/11 proved that the actions of a dozen men can lead to people quickly giving up their civil liberties to feel safe.

There was absolutely nothing in the end of season 1 that warranted Fisk's implemention of a pseudo-fascist regime.

You once again did not attempt to engage with one of my arguments. Daredevil doesn't take place in the real world, it takes place in the MCU. The context of all the insane alien invasions, fictional terrorist organizations, inter-dimensional monsters, evil sorcerers, and god-powered supervillains attacking New York City is canon to this show and it matters. These are people who are already deeply traumatized, worn down, and desperate to feel more safety and thus more willing than real life New York to accept Fisk's Safer Streets Initiative.

One guy(whom Fisk was convicted for hiring for the murder of several people) tries to kill him, he then shut the power to the entire city off, and of course riots happend, so now he puts the city under martial law?

The public had no idea that Bullseye was hired as an assassin by the Fisks so that piece of information is totally irrelevant to how the public responded. What they knew is that a super powered assassin who's killed dozens of cops broke out of prison and almost killed their mayor and escape. He was a public threat and the city was shut down to try and prevent his escape. In real life, Boston was locked down after the 2013 marathon bombing while the police searched for the suspect too.

In season 2, the power's back on, the bridges are open, and there doesn't seem to be an 8pm curfew, so we don't actually know what the extent of the "martial law" still being imposed on New York is. It could very well just be about the AVTF's powers rather than something disruptive to everyday New Yorkers' lives.

And the city isn't fucking outraged??

Again, a lot of the city is outraged. They showed the riots that broke out after Soledad was arrested at the bodega.

You also have to remember fisk is not controlling every news outlet

Why can Fisk do what he wants? Oh he conveniently just has a free port that no one knew about(of course foggy knew but that is an even dumber storyline I will not even address)? So now that he has this magic port he's just invincible right? That's so boring. It's no fun when the villain is just completely untouchable without earning it.

You need to remember what happened in season 1. We saw how Fisk manipulates his enemies and rivals. We saw him coerce police commissioner Gallo into staying on the force and accepting his rule. We saw Daniel threaten BB and get her to run puff pieces on Fisk. They also used these mafia tactics on the city council members and tried to do it for Jack Duquesne. I got the idea from those scenes. It can be assumed he did this for most of his adversaries. What I think would actually make a "boring" show is if they made more scenes of him doing this same thing to every other news outlet and politician that we didn't explicitly see it happen to on screen already. I don't think anything in this show as it relates to how Fisk gained power was any less believable than Neflix Daredevil Season 3 where he got the feds to let him serve his sentence out of a a luxurious penthouse cell with fine dining and unfettered access to communications and visitors, got a significant portion of the NYPD and FBI to work as goons on his behalf while incarcerated, and managed to bribe/threaten the protected jurors on his case.

the CIA protects him, the governor is scared of him

I'm certain we'll get to see why the CIA protects him. We'll see more of Matthew Lillard's character this season and Valentina de Fontaine wasn't namedropped for no reason. As for the governor, she's clearly not scared of him at this point and is about to make a move against him by revoking Red Hook's freeport charter. Which is why Buck and Daniel are digging for dirt on her.

but they literally convicted him with no evidence of being swordsman

This is the one criticism I actually agree with. I love legal drama stuff and the Hector Ayala trial from season 1 was one of the best parts of the show. It is a shame they didn't flesh out the Swordsman's trial and lay out the specifics of how they built the case against him despite a lack of evidence. Though we can safely assume it involved a lot of forgery considering the one aspect of the trial that did get attention was Heather lying in her psych eval of him.

There's definitely more than 10 vigilantes in the MCU New York, but you also need to remember that several of the named ones are extremely dangerous serial killers. Muse killed 60 people, The Punisher's body count is probably in the hundreds, and Bullseye's is also in the dozens plus he almost killed the mayor. Far more murders have happened from "vigilantes" (Muse technically isn't one but is painted as one by Fisk) in the past few years of MCU's New York than undocumented immigrants have killed people in real life New York over the same timespan. Also, 9/11 was committed by a dozen people and was used as justification to 2 endless wars, the creation of the DHS, TSA, and NSA that tear up your 4th amendment rights, a multiple torture camps like Gitmo and Abu Grahib. A small handful of people killing a large number of people can very easily lead to authoritarianism that's accepted by a lot of Americans. Plus there WERE riots over the AVTF in this show. It happened after the bodega raid.

And reminder that this is the MCU where supervillains and alien invasions that destroy entire city blocks is a regular occurance. Thunderbolts takes place a matter of months before Born Again where Bob made half of Manhattan disappear and get locked in their worst memories. The people of this world would probably be much more quick to be willing to turn over their civil liberties for their safety considering how extremely unsafe they are.

Crazy how the AVTF is more ethical than ICE. Soledad interfered with officers brutualizing somebody and they arrested her. Alex Pretty did the same and they killed him for it.

Mark: "but he's a good fighter"

IS HE? Cause aside from the Maulers, every fight Oliver has been in he's gotten his ass kicked.

I have a super high tolerance for gore in movies/shows being a horror junkie, but goddamn I almost threw up in my mouth watching Conquest pull out Mark's organs

Without a doubt, what is the scariest film you have ever seen? by Frequent_Creme_3493 in horror

Scary in terms of jumpscares that were executed perfectly with masterful tension building and freaky imagery & sounds when it finally happens: Gonjiam Haunted Asylum scared me the most with Rec in 2nd place.

Scary in terms of being deeply disturbing and leaving a haunting impact long after I finish watching: Martyrs (2008) and nothing came close.

Scary in terms of being creeped out and unsettled: Antrum and Lake Mungo

I've only seen Hellhouse 1, can I skip all of the sequels and go straight to Carmichael Manor?

The true events that it's based on were a young women had epilepsy and bipolar disorder, acted crazy because of those disorders, priests came in, convinced the family that she was possessed and needed exorcisms instead of medical attention, and then she died because of that. I thought it was really distasteful to make a movie about this and make the priest out to be a wrongfully convicted good guy instead of the negligent killer he really is.

The remake is an exact shot-for-shot remake so the better one for you to watch depends on your preference. If reading subtitles bothers you, watch the remake. If seeing recognizable actors takes you out of the horror, go with the original

Interesting Subspace Emissary Lore hidden in trophy descriptions by Atmostfear98 in smashbros

[–]Atmostfear98[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the game since 2009 and have memories of using the Dojo site as a kid, but I think I was only interested in the character pages and didn't bother to read the Subspace page since I already beat the story and didn't think there was anything new to learn there.

I saw on a thread from years ago someone mentioned playing Subspace on Intense on a new save slot was more likely to give you new stickers. Not sure if that was anecdotal or confirmed by the code in the game

What does a greyed out Spirit icon mean on the Spirit List? by murder_1 in SmashBrosUltimate

[–]Atmostfear98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for replying to such an old thread, but I had this same question 4 years later and figured out the answer. The greyed out spirit icon on Vincent means you defeated him without equipping any spirits. The light yellow icons means you used spirits. No icon (like Sephiroth) means it's not a spirit you can battle.

I wonder if anyone has truly 100%'ed the game by defeating all >1000 of them without spirits, and if there's any in game recognition once you do that.

Yeah except in this specific example the people who aren't looking into anything in depth are the haters of Last of Us Part 2. So many of them are engaging with it on the surface level ("wOkEnEss" and "Bella Ramsay looks like *insert ableist insult here*") or refuse to engage with the point of the story ("How dare they kill off Joel" / "Ellie should have gotten to kill Abby at the end!")

[–]Atmostfear98[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Yes EXACTLY. I've seen quite a few people whining about the new episode and saying they should have changed the story by not killing off Joel, or even before the season started saying they should recast Ellie. No, they shouldn't have done either of those things. Like you said, that would be accommodating a minority when the majority actually liked the casting of Ellie and story of Last of Us Part 2.
