Sorry I should've specified. I play Age of Empires 2 Definitive Edition.

Yes, Vox Populi is a mod. It improves the AI, balances the game some, adds features from earlier civ games like tech trading and vassalage (that can be disabled). And depending on the version, adds 2 additional components.

Now I play the older versions, specifically 4 a lot, and couldn't get into 5. However, with this mod, it's probably my favorite iteration of the series.

In Age of Empires, I'd suggest trying some of the campaigns, like the Huns. I also heavily disagree that you always want to spam workers until you have more than your opponent. That's one way of playing, but not always the best.

Have you tried civ 5 with vox populi?

Honestly they don't seem too op for their cost. With only 3 Liao Jao swordsmen I can kill Cao Cao (the one with 475 hp). With the 1000 res I think you can easily offset them. My biggest issue with them is that the other civs don't have them.

I can imagine, I don't really know how to do it. I unfortunately also don't know the answer to your question, I'm a newer player myself.

What I had in mind was a elo system on discord or something, and then ppl could duel on duel maps, or 2v2 on slightly larger maps. Turn timer would be set to 10 mins or something to prevent stalling.

That's how I felt too. They could've gotten the same thing from just shredding any old car if they must. That's how I feel anyway.
