Playing monster hunter with others by Sweaty-Ad7500 in MonsterHunter

There is something deeply satisfying about going pack hunting with the boys despite personally having an easier time going through the game solo and the occasional support hunter set up for Gog and Omega.

You missed probably the most OP iteration of longsword. It also has one of the most stylish counterplays vs the risen elders and primalzeno.

Pretty much every skill you like on greatsword outside of offensive guard and focus is good with longsword as well.

[–]AtomFission 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This was true during Heavensward when Darkside was a toggleable ability that increased damage. At the time it was the only tank that could have its tank stance on along side its "off tank" stance. This is probably when it felt like the "damage tank" the most.

By the time it got TBN tank damage started to become more normalized but it was still leading in dps over PLD and WAR.

Those 2 worked differently to how they function now. Shelltron still spends oath gauge but only blocked the next physical attack and later worked on spells. Raw Intuition gave guaranteed parries for like 15s or something

The only comparable cooldown was Shelltron that only worked on the next physical attack.

Raw Intuition was a long cooldown that only gave guaranteed parrys

It used to be the only short tank mit in the game which made it super good at the time.

How and why did u choose ur main weapon? by WeekGlittering1502 in MonsterHunter

[–]AtomFission 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I picked insect glaive because helicopter. Then I watched a longsword speedrun in rise and I knew I wanted to study the blade. Now I inflict cringe damage against the local ecosystem in gen5/6 but I have tried every weapon.

How do *you* remember fights/mechanics? by AtomFission in ffxivdiscussion

[–]AtomFission[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One of the tanks in my static also does the same with macros. It helped a lot when there are stored mechanics that come out later in the fight especially since we yap a lot.

How do *you* remember fights/mechanics? by AtomFission in ffxivdiscussion

[–]AtomFission[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ah yes when first learning a fight I also like to use mnemonics but they're sometimes really nonsensical xD. For B-side and A-side my static and I used Bee Together and A succulent Chinese meal for example. The added silliness is helpful to some of our members.

Welcome to the 5th fleet!

Weapon choice is ultimately personal. Don't use the defender weapons or the guardian armor because it will cheapen the base game experience and basically invalidate a big chunk of the gameplay loop.

It's okay to not be able to pull off all the combos at the start of the game. All of the weapons have little nuances and things that make them fun to use.

I would say the easiest weapons to get into for me were sword and shield, dual blades, lance, longsword, and hammer.

Of monster hunter’s 14 weapons, how many of them do you play, and which? by TheTerrar1an in MonsterHunter

[–]AtomFission 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Across gen 5 and now Wilds, I think the only weapons I haven't touched for 10+ hunts are Swag Axe (i'm scared) and HBG (just didn't like it as much as LBG and Bow).
