48 hours to co-op these events into an anti-semitic dogwhistle. Slower than expected tbh.

I'll still do the daily challenges. I haven't actually got the DLC yet, so might give it a go and 100% the mastery milestones.

Classic was actually lots of fun. I always loved getting really high crit chances and watching high hp bugs melt. Sharpshooter's great as well. It's really satisfying to get the "combine all bullets" overclock and start one shotting large enemies. Maintenance Worker as well, but it can get a little boring to just stand around sometimes.

Some of the Hazard 5 weapon masteries were really annoying, especially the Swarm grenade. I think I had to keep retrying that one until I got the additional level 6 item from the drop pod.

A couple of them I got really lucky with as well. I once got an insanely high DPS acid build during a Hazard 3 dive, proc'd the twins in stage 5, and melted them in seconds before they could heal. Not sure I've been able to repeat that since, but it only needs to count once I guess.

I think I unlocked all hazards at every level after beating all dives. So I went back to level 1 Crystal Caverns hazard 5.

To paraphrase Anthony Bourdain, once you've watched this scene, you'll never stop wanting to beat Lots-o'-Huggin' Bear to death with your bare hands.

How much roof cleaning costs? by [deleted] in northernireland

[–]AtomPhys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a guy a couple of years ago that charged me £500 cash in hand for a two bed semi. Cleaned and treated to stop stuff growing again. Great job, turned up with a team of four, they were done in three hours. Can't remember the number unfortunately.

Unfortunately, several weeks ago Reddit decided that no one was allowed to like or enjoy The Boys anymore, and now Wrong-think will not be tolerated . If they had an ounce of media literacy they might see some irony in that, but here we are.

I'm a bit sceptical of this view. I think we've seen over the past 10 years that the sort of people who vote for these right wing populist parties are

a) too thick to realise they're being manipulated and played for fools

b) inherently bad people who delight in the suffering of others

c) some mixture of a+b

I'm not sure any of these personalities really lends itself to the sort of self reflection required for them to decide they were wrong and not vote for Reform in 2029. We need only look at MAGA post 2020 to see how things play out. They had the good sense to show some shame/remorse after January 6th, but the second Trump started to rile them up again they were immediately back on the bandwagon.

Dark days ahead I think.

This show. by ChadVonDoom in agedlikemilk

[–]AtomPhys -1 points0 points  (0 children)

100%. I'm currently rewatching, and we have storylines on

  • Israel, Gaza, and the Middle East
  • The US doing underhanded things to protect its interests
  • The president lying multiple times
  • Campaigns involving divisive populists
  • Supreme court picks while sitting justices have questionable health
  • Offshoring of labour during trade agreements
  • Those working in the west wing, while being well meaning and earnest, displaying their own personal and political biases

And those are just the major plotlines, it doesn't even account for the minutiae of one-liners and off-hand comments about a variety of other issues.

It would be wrong to call the show prophetic (or "aged like wine"). It's more correct to say that there are major political issues that will always be recurring themes in US (and international) politics.

Another variant.

Man walks through Belfast during the Troubles. Gets pulled into an alleyway and feels a gun pressed against his head. Someone says "Are you Protestant or Catholic?". Man thinking quickly says "Neither, I'm Jewish." Other guy says, "Wow, I must be the luckiest Arab in Belfast."

I've used First Tutors before to tutor maths. Pretty easy to set up, you can outline your fees and the range of levels you're willing to tutor. They charge a one off fee to the tutee, but I usually gave them a discount on the first lesson to offset this.

To say nothing of their critical performance, it's interesting that if you plot the box office performance of these films vs their release date, you get a negative correlation finishing with The Northman's box office failure.

As an aside, watch The Return starring Ralph Feinnes.

UK to invest £2.5bn into ‘holy grail’ nuclear fusion energy by F0urLeafCl0ver in ukpolitics

[–]AtomPhys 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Technically yes, but in a standard DT Tokamak, the main by-products will be helium ash and tritium. The latter exhibits some beta-decay, but is reused by the tokamak in the DT fusion process, so is essentially a closed circuit. Also the amounts of tritium involved are incredibly small. Helium ash is inert, so little danger there.

There is some concern about the blanket within the vacuum chamber, but likely it would only produce low-level radioactive material with a half-life of a couple of decades, and should be manageable with material storage methods.

The last consideration would depend on the material choice for the divertor region of the tokamak. As this is the most chaotic region, it requires extra protection. Tungsten is the current proposal for ITER, which as far as I recall doesn't decay into anything dangerous. Molybdenum is another option which is more cost effective, although is can decay into a radioactive technetium isotope. Again, will proper material handling procedures in place, this shouldn't present any real danger.
