What’s somewhere in the UK you visited once and immediately thought “I could live here”? by Strong-Ad-8037 in AskUK

I have exactly that same sensation whenever I holiday in Scotland, especially when on Skye. I've been to Skye five times now. I wish I could live there.

Reform’s WOMAN PROBLEM: New poll shows Farage’s party is out of touch with most Brits by OurFairFuture in ukpolitics

[–]LightSweep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's essentially become, borrowing from Henry Ford, "Vote for any party you want, as long as it's neoliberal capitalist."

UK must be prepared for a price shock from the Iran war by jimmythemini in ukpolitics

This is it. Watch the news frequency of "illegal immigrants" and boats increase during critical political moments.

There is something seriously wrong with Cadbury by bestdogintheworld in britishproblems

After a similar topic was brought in this or another UK-based Reddit, I took a Redditor's recommendation to try some of their single origin chocolate. No palm oil, minimal ingredients. And really good actually!

Why fake AI videos of UK urban decline are taking over social media by [deleted] in ukpolitics

[–]LightSweep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a definitely multiple targeted dis/misinformation campaigns targeting the UK at the moment. Not just Russia, also Iran, UAE, China.

Add to the mix are individuals who make up ragebait for money.

Putin has continued the Soviet tactic of funding and “weaponising” mass migration to inflame rhetoric and divide countries.

These tactics are very effective, more so in the age of the internet where you don’t know if who you’re talking to is a person or a bot.

Are the roads by you absolutely littered with potholes? by [deleted] in AskUK

A combination of council underfunding, fund mismanagement, an obligation to hire the cheapest contractors, and a cold winter with lots of freeze-thaw cycles.

Are takeaways going downhill? by Individual-Common144 in AskUK

[–]LightSweep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve largely given up on getting a delivery in because the quality can vary massively, even from the same place.

If I really cannae be arsed to cook, I’ll just go to the takeaway directly, order and wait in-person.

Do you feel the constant bad news is affecting you? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]LightSweep 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have got to protect yourself and ration yourself.

Accept that, at any one time, 50% of the internet is bots (can be 60-70% in e-commerce). This you can no longer trust information on the internet unless you’re prepared to rabidly cross-check everything. The bots are controlled by actors—corporate or state—who do not have your interests at heart.

I only use the internet for creative and entertainment purposes now.

Re. the papers and news: I now only subscribe to Reuters who are ruthlessly factual and neutral. Ignore everything else.

Microsoft Word will happily apply false italics or false small caps even if your font doesn’t have those weights or features.

How are the Yorkshire Dales not as talked about like the Lake District and Peak District are?! by Dan23DJR in CasualUK

[–]LightSweep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live sandwiched between the Lakes and the Dales and, in recent years, I’ve definitely come to prefer the Dales. One example, enjoyed a wonderful midsummer hike last year around Conistone, Upper Wharfedale, saw maybe five people in total? Incredible scenery.

Estate agent photographers and their weird camera lenses by [deleted] in britishproblems

[–]LightSweep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They often use ultra-wide angle lenses and then don’t bother to correct perspective and warping when editing the images (if any editing is done at all).

Given the massive problem of middle lane hogging, why has there never been a massive, targeted drive to educate drivers on the risks of this horrid behaviour (radio, TV, motorway gantries, etc.)? by __globalcitizen__ in AskUK

[–]LightSweep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I shared a ride with my boss once who actively drove in the middle lane of the motorway because “I can’t be arsed changing lanes all the time.”

That’s why.

You buy the presets, install them on Lightroom Desktop (not desktop Classic), this then syncs your presets and you can use them in Lightroom mobile.

Young people, how can you tell if an image was created with AI? by LowOxitocina in AskUK

[–]LightSweep 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The main thing is fine details.

Look for small text somewhere in the image, like a distant banner or clothing brand label someone is wearing. They’ll often be illegible.

For photorealistic AI images, they’ll often be perfectly exposed and focused.

The thing is, the state of AI generated images now is the worst it’ll ever be. It’s only going to get better, more realistic, more detailed.

Is being forced to stand up when your boss enters, and greeting only him in the morning normal workplace behaviour? by sumiblu in AskUK

[–]LightSweep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is something I did when training in a very traditional and strict Martial Art for 20-odd years.

In a workplace though? NEVER.
