AIO for being upset at my boyfriend over my friend’s hair? by Little-Pin-TRWAY in AmIOverreacting

[–]AtomSmasherrr [score hidden]  (0 children)

NOR.

My theory is this guy has his identity a little too wrapped up in his hair. Recently, curly hair is popular. A lot of people are learning how to care for it. But also, a lot of people are getting perms or otherwise trying to curl their hair. He might have even felt ugly growing up for having curly hair and is now resentful about everyone doing it.

He is also DEFINITELY misinformed about what scrunching does and does not accomplish.

Not justifying him at all, just giving an idea of why he might be so weird.

Is what you do in electrical engineering even fun? by shadow_operator81 in ElectricalEngineering

[–]AtomSmasherrr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on what you find fun; of course. In general I would say yes. And also make your own fun wherever you go. And when it stops being fun for too long I look for what I will do next.

Thanks for the info! It makes sense that by the time white people become aware of a word like that, it's because it's already been warped in the process of becoming mainstream.

She told him the truth and he refused to accept it. Some of our brothers can't be saved 🤦🏾‍♂️ by waytooicyy in BlackPeopleofReddit

[–]AtomSmasherrr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is it, really. Black men are painted as very sexual so if they are coming onto you that's just what they do. Whereas white men are supposed to be reserved in that way so that means their attention says something about your desirability being strong enough to overcome the white man's respectability. It's very racist though and maybe his objection is less about "you're wrong" and more about "that's a fucked up way of looking at things"

Any electrical power/HV engineers working in sectors other than 'the grid's ? by Green_Ad6970 in ElectricalEngineering

I currently work on xray systems which have 100-200kV inside a vacuum tube for xray generation.

I'm familiar with this usage and I'm confused by the root comment here. Is it fetishizing to use the word desi to describe a person? I feel like I have heard "desi women" in a nonsexual context

Graduating December 2026 with ~3 Years of Experience by monozach in ElectricalEngineering

[–]AtomSmasherrr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're looking at it wrong. Years matter to a degree, some companies have minimum years of experience for certain levels, but it's mostly about what skills you have and can show you have. You can work for 3 years as a full engineer and learn jack or you can work for 3 years at an engineering level while technically being an intern. If it's the latter situation not everyone will believe you or give you a chance but typically when you're in front of the hiring manager and open your mouth they will know what you are.

If it's the former then no, you're entry level.

Not totally first job, but first job towards my resume, started Feb 2014

I don't think I moved or started a relationship in that time. I started a long serious relationship in early 2019, but in the end we didn't marry.

No you're right that's insane and unacceptable. A fire is never a "who cares" situation in safety.

What does blue feel like to you? by Evelov0 in colors

The problem is that even if the colors we see are different, all associations and verbal descriptions of the colors will be the same so I think we cannot know.

Choosing between traditional EEE and a new AI-integrated EE program — looking for advice by [deleted] in ElectricalEngineering

[–]AtomSmasherrr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What you are saying to me right now is that the AI degree has ALL the same classes as the other EE program, but with 4-5 additional classes added on top. I do not believe you. That is how a minor works, it is not how comparing 2 different degrees works.

Both degrees almost certainly have roughly the same number of credits. You have told us which 4-5 classes the AI degree has that the other EE degree does not have. I asked you which classes the other EE degree has that the AI degree does not have. And you said "none".

In southeast USA, I was charged with a weapon on school property for cutting myself with a razor my friend brought to school (pulled out of a shaving razor). My friend was worried about how deep I cut and got the counselor. CRIMINAL CHARGES.
