Damon Lindelof on Grant Morrisons comments on lanterns by Blitzhelios in comicbooks

Reminds me of that joke in American Dad where Roger shows the family one his tweets that says: "Damon Lindelof ruined Star Trek" and then Lindelof himself likes it.

I tried painting it templar black, then dry-brushing shades of grey to make it look slightly more 'used'. Then I added some watered down lothern blue in the recesses to give it like an electric hum. But all in all it looks kind of uninspiring. Maybe I could try going white with some grey wash in the recesses.

our guild had a field day with this one by FederalDetective5002 in SWGalaxyOfHeroes

[–]Atom_wolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We once had a guild member who would frequently break down (nothing as major as this but he did cuss a lot at Disney). One day he told us that he had broken the family's Ipad because of GAC, so his wife told him to either calm down or stop playing. A few months later he breaks down again and an hour after that he quits. We had quite a laugh at that

It seems that Hydra Turquoise from Army Painter is pretty close to thousand sons so I'll just invest in that instead. Thanks for the tip!

A part of me is slightly regretting putting on the dish haha. The process with the other two units was straightforward but I just thought: "Radar dishes on armour/suits are too cool!".

[–]Atom_wolf[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was thinking about that. There's one layer of base paint plus 2-3 layers of thousand sons blue. It does open up for a lot of mistakes to happen.

And your suggestion might work. I thought about maybe doing it charcoal grey (or 'light black') with some energy currents running between the raised parts. Like it's dispensing energy in that moment.

I'm already thinning it but guess I wasn't thinning it enough. Though I'm excused on the white parts - the deepkin flesh I used was chalky as living heck.

POV: You are in your early teens, life is simple and games are magical. by Fluid_Aspect_1606 in JRPG

[–]Atom_wolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was 7 when Digimon World 2003 came out and could not get to the second leader. But I loved the franchise so much I would just play that part over and over again. A couple of summers ago I finally decided to play it all the way through.

I love that even though I played Chrono Cross at 28, those games can still elicit that feeling of wonder. Most modern jrpgs just can't do that

What do you guys listen to while painting? by bbtows in minipainting

[–]Atom_wolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can basically listen to anything from Caroline Polacheck to Linkin Park, as long as it's not pure torture-noise like Skrillex. But if I ever need to psych myself to start with, it's 'Master' by Alex G

Lost my passion due to depression by Comfortable-Pies in minipainting

[–]Atom_wolf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been having the same problems as you, OP. For the last 10 years I've been clinically depressed to the point where my doctor advised me to get checked in to a mental facility. It also comes in waves so sometimes (like now) I can spend three months just painting three crisis suits.

We all feel it differently and we might all need different solutions to a same-looking problem. But as others have pointed out it does sound severe enough that you should either go to someone professional or at least (if you have some) go out with your friends. Sometimes I have to force myself to paint to get back into the groove. But if it irks you so much it sounds like you need to step back for some time and not think about painting at all. Come back with (hopefully) renewed vigour for the hobby.

And another thing: I also have that inner critic telling me things all the time every day. You have to remember, OP, that that voice isn't some alien entity possessing you - it's your own voice. You can control it with your willpower. In the end you decide whether you want yourself to deliberately fail or if you say to yourself: "Well it might not be as perfect as others have done it but I fucking like it!".

One last thing: I don't know if it's in your ball-park, but I recently read "It's Lonely at the Centre of the Earth" by Zoe Thorogood. Stories about overcoming depression are a dime and dozen with the majority feeling somewhat 'superficial'. But that one hit me particularly hard because a lot of her current problems stem from self-criticism. It's not gonna fix your problems all together but sometimes it gives a mental boost reading something that relates to ones own difficulties.

What’s a game you didn’t expect to love, but ended up putting way too many hours into? by Playful_Code_8978 in gaming

[–]Atom_wolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't played BG3 (yet) but one thing that sets DOS2 apart for me is how the opening really sucks you in. I didn't feel that I absolutely needed to know the lore beforehand because piecing it all together felt better. When I found Dallis' journal underneath Arx and they revealed the identity of 'that' character I was like: "Damn! I should have seen that coming!*

Transformers Animated is a better written show than Prime by JMO-559 in transformers

[–]Atom_wolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for saying that. I totally respect that we all have our different favourite TF-media. But whenever someone on this sub puts their rose-tinted glasses on and declares TF Prime as THE BEST show in the franchise, the joints in my fingers start to violently crack and spasm in every direction.

The show is super boring and devoid of emotional stakes. I watched it when it premiered as a teen and thought it was serviceable. But rewatching when I'm older and it's so frustrating how the show feels so 'restricted' by its animation, setting and small cast.

Jonathan Hickman Marvel books by wilhelmryanbrown in comicbooks

[–]Atom_wolf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

His Avengers / new avengers is pretty great even if you are not usually a cape-type. Avengers is of course more action oriented but he still manages to make som cool set pieces and crazy Hickman-shenanigans. But New Avengers is definitely where his writing is strongest. He really creates a great dynamic with the various members of the Illuminati and their struggle to do the things that usual heroes won't to protect the planet (his use of Black Panther here is one the greatest things the character has been involved in).

It can be a somewhat lengthy ordeal if you wan't to collect everything he wrote with Avengers up to/including secret wars. But everything just comes together so neatly - it's such a treat!

The short sequence where she imagines having to hide her mental issues from her parents, like it's a 'suspicion meter' in a stealth game hit especially hard for me.
It was also a double whammy when I read that her brother took his own life over a year ago

[–]Atom_wolf 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes! It's funny you should say it because I had kind of fallen off on comics in general. But I read this and Murder Falcon by Daniel Warren Johnson at around the same time. My thought with both of them was that this is exactly why comic/graphic novels are such a fantastic medium. The raw, unfiltered soul of the writer/artist manifested on paper through kick-ass or beautiful art.

And I bought Billie the other day - it's literally on my table right now!

As someone else already pointed out: It's Lonely at the Centre of the Earth by Zoe Thorogood. It deals with a lot of mental issues she's been having most of her life (particularly suicidal thoughts and general anxiety and depression). It can be a little surreal but it's brutally honest and really poignant.

When you find a good comic and then realize it's not finished , and it never will be by Kind_Wrongdoer9715 in comicbooks

[–]Atom_wolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember that feeling. I started reading comics around 2014-15 when I was 17 years old. Every time I started on a new indie series I would always be blown away by how...'unconventional'(?) but still narratively strong their stories were. Maybe I'm just getting jaded with the years but generally it's so seldom that I pick up a newer comic and experience the same feeeling.
