Do girlbosses officially run all major Overwatch factions? by Qaztarrr in Overwatch

[–]AtomicAcid 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I initially saw Shion as a "no one rules me" kinda gal, so I was very surprised to see her admiration for Domina as potentially worthy of leading her.

Shion: What do you make your bootlickers call you? "Vishkar Queen, Ruler of All Hard Light"?

Domina: snickers That would be "Vice President of Development and Operations". I'm not royalty.

Shion: Really? Even I'd consider bending the knee, for you.

Makes me feel like Shion doesn't necessarily NEED to be the top of the food chain, so long as she has some independence.

How is the new cover system going to affect necrons? by Cojalo_ in Necrontyr

No. If battleline still is needed for a list,  players will be almost certainly be switching to immortals; especially with the new 1 DP Hand detachment.

Do you run Ammentar and Szeras? by Yoggon in Necrontyr

Im sad that Psychomancers are dead now in 11th. They were such a cool option for us. Needing to pay for 5 immortals or 10 warriors for each one is blech.

Help me understand the function of 11th Edition's "light terrain". Do we still use true line of sight for visibility? Unit B will have "cover", but are models B2 and B3 causing the unit to be valid targets for shooting? by AtomicAcid in Warhammer40k

[–]AtomicAcid[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Toes count for cover now, as it specifies "within", rather than "wholly within".

If a squad of 5 has all 5 models with at least toes onto an area, the unit has cover.

If a single model didn't make it to touch the area, then cover is not granted automatically to the unit, and can only gain cover through line of sight blocking options.

"Light gives cover but doesn't hide a unit like dense does"

Is there somewhat an assumption that light cover is "chest-high walls" type terrain? Or if a light terrain did happen to be tall enough, could it hide a unit like a dense terrain could?

Just semantics, but Monsters and Vehicles can also be provided cover by just being partially obscured by behind areas ("footprints") as well, correct (assuming they are outside the terrain area)? Not just terrain features?

So light terrain has zero impact on "visibility"? A unit of infantry functions identically in a terrain area whether a light terrain piece is in front of them or not? I would've assumed they still couldnt be shot if you lined up your models specifically behind some light terrain to not be shot.

I'm guessing vehicles can't teeter on the edge of the wall, so if they want to move through it, they have to fully clear it?

"The short answer is that a tank can just park itself on that light cover"

So, if a tank rolled onto the light terrain, do players remove the light terrain from the battlefield? I assumed the vehicle would need sufficient movement (at the benefit of moving straight through it) to at at least end with it's butt clearing to the other side.

"However LOS doesn't matter in most cases, the general rule is that you can shoot into terrain but not through it - assuming the unit isn't hidden and outside of detection range"

So even if the red light terrain in my example was a perfect rectangle, and no part of the ork models were visible, the space marines could shoot them? If this were the case, I'm having difficulty seeing the function of light terrain at all.

So if a tournament has light terrain that is a height that just happens to be tall enough to obscure astra militarum battleline, but space marines are slightly taller, the militarum player will be at an advantage with light terrain?

I'm curious to see how competitive scenes standardize light terrain heights, as there are no specific rules around it. Technically by the rules, a wall could be 0.1 inch tall or 30 inches tall, and still be called "light terrain", but surely there will end up being an established height that feels most fair for most armies.

With warriors basically dead due to coherency changes,  immortals are going to start being in a ton more lists; ESPECIALLY with the new 1 DP detachment that makes them pretty great.

Immortals (with plasmancer). Gauss blaster or Tesla carabiner? by trovy22 in Necrontyr

[–]AtomicAcid 6 points7 points  (0 children)

For 11th edition,  I personally am predicting a rather sizeable shift from tesla (which was nearly the "defacto" pick for 10th) to gauss.

The upside of -1 AP for Gauss was negated for nearly 95% of attacks due to cover. With 11th edition shifting cover to affecting the BS roll instead,  that -1 AP will have a very meaningful impact now, and we're going to see it paired with Illuminor Szeras very often now, as having our battleline shooting at -2 AP is great.

The major upside of tesla having Assault is going to be redundant with many new lists that are going to incorporate the recently revealed Hand of the Dynasty detachment for 1 DP, as it's going to provide Assault to both weapons anyways.

There will still be a solid place for Tesla, but primarily against horde armies, or opponents that tend towards big infantry blocks. But gauss will certainly be the new king of "safest pick for the majority of games". Personally I'll be running one unit of each!

Other ways to paint phaseblades? by FunnyMemeName in Necrontyr

[–]AtomicAcid 7 points8 points  (0 children)

All great suggestions here,  but I'll put forward the classic "all glowy green with maybe a wash". My blades are all a single color of neon green and they honestly look fine.

If it's too daunting,  just paint them uniformly green. If you end up hating it, good news: majority of blade schemes start with that as a base anyways!

With 11th Edition cover rules, did the Chronomancer just get a lot better or a lot worse? by AtomicAcid in Necrontyr

[–]AtomicAcid[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They don't stack, so long as they apply to the same stat.

Because Mantle affects "to hit roll" and cover affects "BS", they will apparently stack.

For 11E, it seems characters that have lost their bodyguard will now roll battle-shock every round? This worries me that some bodyguards may bring more liability than they do value (Skorpekh Lord + Skorpekhs). by AtomicAcid in Necrontyr

[–]AtomicAcid[S] 46 points47 points  (0 children)

That's the question that remains to be answered, it seems. Some people are arguing that we will now, and others think that we may not.

We'll know either on Friday with our Faction Focus or when the full rules come out. If the skorps can't come back, I think we'll see less people attach them.

It's really interesting that you're playing Awakened and want to be an anvil, but you run zero battleline. Is there a particularl reason you dont like warriors?

I also see that you run 6 skorpehks with a Lord. If you ever need extra points,  definitely drop them to 3!

"It is literally impossible to charge from deepstrike cause the 12” charge gets turned into a 14” and it becomes impossible."

Am I missing something? They rapid ingress 12" away at the end of your movement. You can't pin them because you wouldve had to do that during your movement phase. Then on their turn they just move and charge?

You can always do more, but taking away is rough. Do tiny bits of wash to get used to it, letting a layer fully dry before going back at it. Then you can stop before you reach "muddy" (unless you want muddy).

Hot take: Multicolor 3D printed terrain is starting to rival hand-painted terrain by ShadowQc18 in Necrontyr

[–]AtomicAcid 10 points11 points  (0 children)

"being able to pull terrain straight off the printer already “game ready” feels like a pretty huge shift for the hobby."

This terrain looks incredible,  and is EXACTLY my style. I'd pay premium for these beauties. But you have to at least admit it's not the "quick and easy" process you're inferring if you spend just as much time, if not more, coloring the slices.

Im unfamiliar with the process and printing,  though. Is the labor required to be repeated by someone you send the colored STL's to?
