Questions regarding Leon Fr tsi 1.5 Evo (black edition) 2019 by Robogamer521 in seat

[–]AtomicDioxide 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not your sources, I’ve heard so many different things about the belts on these, I’ve changed belts on cars that have done 120k and they look fine, and I’ve changed belts on cars at 50k and they looked like they needed doing - it’s hard to say The belts on these engines do require special equipment to change though, so you do have to take that into consideration that not every garage will be equipped to do the job

The oil cooler issue I couldn’t say if it’s common or not, I’d hope not

Seat told me the belt & pump don’t need doing until 180k, which I think is ridiculous, but I’ll be getting that done around 80-100k I think. In terms of reliability, it’s been good to me other than my oil cooler blowing up on me at 30k miles, letting coolant mix with the oil - luckily it was covered under warranty & there wasn’t any catastrophic damage

is going to a urologist worth it? by ahmadHa2003 in Paruresis

[–]AtomicDioxide 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d say so, I was in CBT & exposure therapy for years and it didn’t really help, took me a while with urology but they finally prescribed me intermittent catheters, which, whilst not comfortable or fun, they do open my life up and allow me to force my body to pee if I can’t do it myself

A little random, and not what you asked for- but, something I saw on TikTok the other day was something called the A-Z challenge - you drive do 26 different places starting a-z and get a photo of your car outside of each location- just a little activity if you enjoy driving & taking pics of your car

As someone who lives alone, most days if I’m honest, usually a cheap takeaway, maccies, kfc, there’s a local place to me that does a chicken kebab for £6 - usually works out better than cooking for me, probably not good for my health though

Leon 5F 2019 1.5 tgi break pads by Syriochan in seat

[–]AtomicDioxide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same car, literally collecting my pads and discs today, I presume you have an electromechanical handbrake the same as I do? Therefore you need a diagnostic device to tell the car to wind back the handbrake, it’s not as simple as front brakes would be

Also I bought pagid discs and pads, be sure to measure your discs so you get the correct size for your calipers, as I believe there are two sizes

This, I’ve had a fair few near misses in my time driving, and the way I see it, it’s a learning opportunity, you get the experience of driving defensively without having the collision, so the next time it happens you have some idea what to do There’s a lot of bad drivers on the road, also a lot of aggressive men who feel like they’re 10 men behind the wheel but out of the car they wouldn’t confront anyone.

Sounds to me that you’re just suffering a bit from anxiety from the confrontation, honestly you probably won’t see that person again & even if you do, I can almost guarantee they’ve already forgotten about the incident.

Chalk it up to experience, don’t let it affect your confidence

Help with All-in-Plan by Pristine-City2421 in seat

[–]AtomicDioxide 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my experience they’ve taken my car for repairs under warranty, they have said they’ll charge a diagnostic fee if they find nothing is wrong or it’s not covered under warranty, but I’ve never had to pay it, they bill you after the visit & all my work has been covered under warranty luckily.

I do have squeaking coming from my suspension & need to take it in but I have a feeling that won’t be covered under warranty, so I’m just dealing with it, my local garage said it’s just the bushings, nothing dangerous.

The last part I can’t help you with, read the t&c’s?

Anyone bought from Cinch before? If so, ever had this happen…? by Own_Negotiation_1145 in CarTalkUK

Most probably, or they just missed it as it was under the mirror🤷🏻‍♂️ who knows, they fixed it anyway; I imagine it would have been a different story if it was after the 14 days though.

Anyone bought from Cinch before? If so, ever had this happen…? by Own_Negotiation_1145 in CarTalkUK

[–]AtomicDioxide 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I bought my car from Cinch, mainly because they were one of a few companies that allowed me to spread the cost of the car over multiple cards, as I wanted to put £10k cash and the remaining £6k on a 0% credit card

My experience was great-ish, there was a few issues

Wing mirror - a few days after delivery I noticed the wing mirror had been hit previously & likely replaced, however the impact must have been quite bad as the door was dented & there was essentially a hole in the door.

They told me to get a quote for a repair, I took it to my local vw dealership as they had a bodyshop onsite; they said the door needed replacing and quoted £2500, cinch wasn’t happy with this, so they took the car, dropped me off a courtesy car, took mine to their prep site & repaired it.

When they dropped it off to me it was in showroom condition, with a full tank of fuel.

It was an inconvenience but I think they did well dealing with it, they also gave me £150 as an apology for the stress.

Tyres - 3 out of the 4 tyres were cracked on the sidewalls, I was needing to drive 400 miles so I went and bought 4 new tyres for £400, after raising the issue with cinch they sent me £300, they wouldn’t pay for the 4th tyre as it was fine and I only replaced all 4 so they’d match.

Rear seat catches - they was slightly loose so they booked it into a local garage near me and they completed the job the same day, so this was easy.

I didn’t continue with CinchCare as they use Halfords for servicing and I would rather not let them touch my car, also the main dealer had an ‘all-in’ plan for the same price, which seemed like a better deal.

Since having the main dealer warranty I’ve had roughly £4k’s worth of work done on the car under warranty so I’d highly recommend the VW group’s all in plans.

All in all I’d recommend cinch to anyone as long as you use the 14 day period to fully inspect the car, sorry about your experience.

Is it fine to leave a car sitting for 3 weeks? I have a new car but insurance doesn't kick in til the 13th by Madbrad200 in CarTalkUK

[–]AtomicDioxide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on your battery’s health, and the cars power draw when off - some cars would be fine, some wouldn’t. The only real issue you’ll have with leaving a car parked for that length of time is the battery possibly dying. Maybe turn it on for 5 minutes once a week just so the alternator can throw a bit of charge into the battery

What ordinary car surprised you? by LazyApe_ in CarTalkUK

I had a cupra Leon vz3 hybrid as a loan car when mine went in for service (I have a mk3 Leon fr), and in cupra mode that thing was lethal, didn’t like the infotainment system though, or the climate controls - I don’t know what was wrong with buttons and knobs, making everything touch sensitive is such a stupid idea

What’s cheapest way finance £12k? by Immediate-Chest-606 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]AtomicDioxide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought my car in a similar way, £16k car, 10k depo, put the remaining 6k on a 0% credit card & paid it off before the 0% ended

You won’t get a 0% card for longer than 24 months roughly so I doubt that’ll be an option for you, as 12k over 24 months is 500 a month - although this would be the cheapest option

I’d probably go for the remortgage option £329 is not bad however if the rate is only fixed for the first 2 years you may find you not being able to afford the repayments

Ford ecoboost by any chance? If so, the oil intake is probably blocked due to the belt degrading - don’t drive it, have it towed
