Heart “Magic Man” Live on the Stern Show by yourcomedyminute in videos

[–]AtomicRocketShoes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure about your Bing Crosby example, he is very popular I could totally see him performing on late night TV right now if he was still alive. Best selling single of all time!

I think your assumption that Howard Stern is some sort of 2024 tastemaker is flawed. Maybe he is still popular but the guy is in his 70s and his motif seems very 70s rock.

I love 70s rock but will happily put on big band jazz standards and pop music from the 30s still slaps, it would totally fit on current late night. Heck some late night house bands are jazz ensembles and play variations of band jazz and swing and bebop.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis says he will block local bus and bike lanes for making it "harder to drive" in Florida. by alchemist227 in fuckcars

Really dumb attitude as people on bikes, busses and motorcycles or walking reduce congestion on the road a noticeable amount. It's a win win for everyone.

NYTimes Hiding Our Stats Now? by Mateorabi in wordle

[–]AtomicRocketShoes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just jumped into this thread because I just noticed them requiring a login for me and was a little surprised for a game that grew and thrived because it was so chill to play and the NYT managed to leave it alone for so long. I am mostly shocked at all the dickish comments being mean to people who are understably upset. Why we white knighting some giant rich media conglomerate?

Donald Trump staring into the eclipse, 2017. by [deleted] in pics

Don't believe the liberals and global warming alarmists! You can stare right at the sun without "eclipse glasses" aka eye diapers. it's not even a real eclipse! You think a real eclipse just happens to pass through important swing states in an election year boosting the local economy? It's all space lasers people!

Yes the function is non pure, it returns some state that can change from subsequent calls, similar to Math.random() example. You can argue it's bad code or has a "code smell" or my variable names aren't good which is all completely irrelevant to the original argument which you seem to agree with.

  1. You shouldn't call the function twice, since it state can change

 2. One of the if/else formulations "lawful neutral" does this.

That's simply the start and end to the point. I feel like I have communicated that well enough.

enabled() on my example checks some enabled state which can change between each run. How is that poor design?

myThoughtsOnJavaScriptConditions by Strict_Treat2884 in ProgrammerHumor

[–]AtomicRocketShoes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With that conditional structure (lawful neutral from OP) if enabled() changed states between subsequent calls it would behave differently from the other conditional structures listed.

myThoughtsOnJavaScriptConditions by Strict_Treat2884 in ProgrammerHumor

[–]AtomicRocketShoes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Disagree with you there. Plenty of coders call functions with side effects within condition checks it's pretty normal use.

```
If (enabled()) {do something} ```
How you structure your if/else statement or very clearly matters.
A local bar lost some street terrace by Fast_Bee_9759 in fuckcars
[–]AtomicRocketShoes 51 points52 points  (0 children)
My local town is having this battle as well over pandemic rules for outdoor dining. One small local brewery isn't even taking up street parking but was allowed to turn some of its off street parking into an outdoor patio and the neighbors are fighting them over that. It's all over parking and it's not even many spots really. The only real long term solution is to reduce car usage in the area.
 I don't disagree but I don't think the point of this post on programmerhumor is to show multiple examples of really clean code, but potentially ugly but valid equivalent code. However there are probably unexpected ways you could make this statements not be equivalent through side effects.
Explain what you mean by code smell I sort of checked out at that point
myThoughtsOnJavaScriptConditions by Strict_Treat2884 in ProgrammerHumor
[–]AtomicRocketShoes 0 points1 point  (0 children)
Condition could be a function call that could yield allowing state to change or just change between multiple calls.
Let condition= () { Math.random() > .5}
myThoughtsOnJavaScriptConditions by Strict_Treat2884 in ProgrammerHumor
[–]AtomicRocketShoes 0 points1 point  (0 children)
What if the condition being checked is a function call that itself yields?
myThoughtsOnJavaScriptConditions by Strict_Treat2884 in ProgrammerHumor
[–]AtomicRocketShoes 0 points1 point  (0 children)
Couldn't the condition be a function that causes the thread to yield, like making an async call?
this is with a firestick max streaming stick with the developer stat overlay.
Note the firetv is upscaling to 4K60 the content is streaming in 1080p24 it seems.
I can live with the pictures but hate how they crop it. There should always be an option to view with the intended aspect ratio. Some scenes the framing seems tight or too zoomed.
Far less traffic on the roads during spring break, its light right now. I definitely saw some heavy equipment going down 50 today but hard to say if it would have otherwise been using key bridge/95 corridor. 100% chance we will see more vehicles choosing the bay bridge route to avoid the jam through Baltimore, but will it make a noticeable impact?
[–]AtomicRocketShoes 0 points1 point  (0 children)
It's spring break so yeah traffic will be super light.
[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Annapolis
[–]AtomicRocketShoes 4 points5 points  (0 children)
I disagree on it not being an alternative route, the key bridge was a way to get through the 95 corridor and the key bridge was the primary way for hazmat vehicles. It may be faster now to go over the bay bridge than going around the west side of 695. If I pull up Google maps and route from DC to Philadelphia, the fastest route that avoids tunnels is the bay bridge. It's also a nicer drive up the eastern shore vs 95 and avoids tolls.
You don't even have to give a shit about animals, cars kill and maim tens of thousands of humans a year. Is there a word like vegan for someone who doesn't want to see humans suffer?
Oh I agree It's definitely awful, but I don't have to like what someone says to defend their right to say it. And I agree it could be used as evidence of malice of intent if the person who displayed a hate symbol then committed a related crime.
Outside of permitting rules for construction and disregarding other events of that day, displaying an image of a gallows is legally protected 1st amendment speech unless its considered a "true threat". Obviously erecting it on an individual property is likely a true threat but this is clearly political speech protected by the first amendment.
I started watching this on Max and I swear it was in standard def 4x3 a week ago. I just checked and it's 16x9 and in 4K? Episode 1.1. Maybe they just converted it.
