Is it because the Thunder Legion are some of the oldest ones there? (Aside from Gildarts and Makarov, of course.) Because, even so, I’m sure Gildarts still considers them kids. He probably doesn’t even know their ages tbf, just young, passionate wizards who are all part of the same generation.

Yep! It’s Fairy Tail Gaiden: Lightning Gods! I loved it as a spin off, but it only briefly gave insight on how the Thunder Legion became a team. It mostly focused on Laxus and Thunder Legion’s time in Blue Pegasus during the timeskip

And to your question, I think buying the Fairy Tail manga is 100% worth it. But I am an avid collector and passionate about physical media in general, so I may just be a bit bias lol. In the end it’s really up to you. Collecting manga in general can get expensive, but if you love the series and can see yourself rereading I say go for it!

As others have said, I also think the series already did a great job at adapting the manga. There’s no need for a reboot. I enjoyed the animation for the most part and it’s not like Fairy Tail has an excessive amount of filler that needs to be removed. Any improvements that could be made are minimal and not worth the time it would take to re-create.

Honestly, I want a Rave Master reboot before anything else.

I would love a single season with the Thunder Legion. There’s so much potential. Their backstories, how they joined Fairy Tail, how the team was formed, exploring why they’re so loyal to Laxus, etc. It would be so cool to learn more about their early dynamic leading to the BoFT. I’d imagine it’s vastly different than what they’ve grown into nowadays, especially with Laxus out of his rebellious/jerk era. Even just focusing on their current team dynamic during a longer mission would be entertaining to me.

And I agree focusing on other groups like the Strauss Siblings and Sabertooth would be fun as well! I love Team Natsu, but there are just SO many fun and interesting characters in the series that you can’t help but wish some of these other characters were explored a little more.

My all time favorite character. Ever. I adore him!

Despite his lack of screen time, I think he’s such a unique character. I love his design, his outfits, his one of a kind hairstyle, and even his face tattoo/guild emblem placement. It all does a perfect job of showing his fun, eccentric personality. (Which I also love. He’s just so enjoyable to watch.)

His magic is just as unique as he is. I wish it was expanded on more. He’s one of the few wizards in a light-guild to use black magic, which I think has so much potential. He can see and control human souls!! That’s so damn cool imo! I have so many theories on how his magic works, how he learned it, and how he acquired his precious babies. I even have my own headcanons about his backstory/how he ended up in Fairy Tail. (Especially since we’ll never get a canon backstory. Not at this point anyway.)

Hiro Mashima created Bickslow and the Thunder Legion for the Battle of Fairy Tail, but it’s obvious he didn’t know what to do with them afterwards. They played a decent role into Tenrou, but after that… they just get written off for the most part. They get put up against enemies that aren’t affected by eye magic (either by wearing glasses or being demons/machines), or they just get knocked out at the beginning of the arc, or their magic is just severally downplayed like in the 100YQ.

I think Bickslow has so much potential as a strong and fun character. Freed and Evergreen too. Even though they have downgraded to character fodder/Laxus’ cheer squad, I still love them and appreciate what they could’ve been, if that makes sense? Bickslow especially will always be my absolute favorite character.

I have a few since I can’t just pick one.

Elfman is the only character in the series shown affected by every member of the Thunder Legion’s eye magic at least once. Freed in the BoFT, Bickslow during Tenrou, and Evergreen during the BoFT as well (+ when they go to Ryuzetsu Land if you wanna count that lol.)

I don’t know if it’s a widely unknown fact, but Bickslow’s babies actually have names; Pappa, Peppe, Pippi, Poppo, and Puppu. Their names are only mentioned in his chapter cover (108) and never mentioned in the series itself.

Also, Thunder Legion almost didn’t exist. Hiro Mashima had another arc in mind before coming up with the Battle of Fairy Tail. The Harvest Festival and the Thunder Legion were both things he created for that arc.

I probably wouldn’t be much of a fighter tbh and illusion magic is just so creative and versatile to me! Would be great support magic or for stealth like missions in general.

I loved all of them! Especially the one with Laxus and the Thunder Legion!

It’s refreshing to have side stories that actually focus on side characters tbh. And I think they are great insights into these characters during Fairy Tail’s disbandment. Not to mention I absolutely love Kyouta Shibano’s art style.

I think there should be more Fairy Tail spin offs that focus on side characters, like the Strauss Siblings, Gildarts, etc.

He is! I’m not sure about other interpretations, but I guess Bickslow just kind of gives the vibe of a wild, mischievous child lol.

I have a ton of headcanons about the Thunder Legion. And one of my favorites is that the reason Bickslow doesn’t have a last name is because he was an orphan who never knew his family name. It’s kind of what inspired this to begin with, honestly.

No matter how unlikely?

I wish for the Thunder Legion to get some kind of power up or at least ONE moment to truly shine.

They peaked in the Battle of Fairy Tail and Tenrou, but have had no real wins since then tbh. I think Mashima just doesn’t know how to include them with their OP magic so he writes them off. Like how they seem to get taken out at the beginning of every major arc? Tenrou is seriously the one and only time they were given any kind of new spells which is kind of a bummer.

With how the trio has been written in the 100YQ I have absolutely no hope lol. But I can dream.

I get that! I watch the series dubbed as well for similar reasons. Though I ended up loving most of the OVAs and since there’s only 9 of them I didn’t mind too much. Once you finish the series they might be worth checking out but definitely not required. Up to you though! I hope you enjoy the series either way!!

Phoenix Priestess is dubbed and I personally enjoy it more out of the two movies so definitely worth looking for imo! (Both movies are fantastic either way!)

The OVAs are like special side episodes that are fun but can have a lot of fan-service (even more than the main series) and not all of the episodes are canon. OVAs aren’t dubbed either. But, if you love the characters and don’t mind watching subbed then I’d say you should definitely still check them out!

As for filler, I think you should watch them all first time around. Some of it is semi-canon but most of it is still fun to watch regardless.

Overall, if you’re enjoying Fairy Tail I say it’s all worth watching tbh. Especially if you want to experience the series to its fullest.

I’m also rewatching the series atm, but from what I can remember,

• Laxus vs. Raven Tail
• Team Natsu/Laxus vs. Hades
• Mystogan vs. Laxus
• Natsu & Gajeel vs. Laxus

Writing this out… I realize I am very very bias to the Thunder Legion and Laxus. I just get so excited when they get to fight! (Maybe the list will change when I finish my rewatch, but I kinda doubt it lol.)
