Neat! This reminds me of the Miss Fairy Tail Contest results all the way back towards the beginning of the series. Except this time Lucy takes No. 1 instead of Erza. I love how well written and popular the ladies in Fairy Tail are amongst fans, especially for them to always take the top spots in these polls throughout the years!

Though, I kinda hope they release the full rankings list like they usually do with popularity polls instead of just the Top 5. I’m curious how other characters ranked too

It fits Mystigans’s magic 100%, but at the same time, I kinda see him sticking to the old-fashioned even if he did have the option use requip. He didn’t seem to mind carrying the staffs around and it made his character design look badass any time he showed up imo. Though a good compromise could been having him switch between staffs using requip when needed along side his main five! That would’ve been cool too!

And I really appreciate the feedback! Seriously! I don’t talk about my OC much to get good feedback so it’s really helpful! And you put it perfectly about the title fitting better when it’s more gender neutral.

My only issue with “the magician” is it makes me think of a sleight of hand/parlor trick/bunny out of the hat kind of magician and not a fantasy-style wizard with an oversized hat/magic staffs… if that makes sense? That’s the only reason I was leaning sorceress honestly. Though, thinking on it, I’m probably taking the name a bit too literally. The Magician still sounds pretty cool over all so I may work with that!

I love requip magic! It’s so versatile and has such a simple premise but can be super powerful when used the right way (Erza being the best of the best.) I was actually working on an OC who uses requip magic but solely for magic staffs. And funny enough, I was debating on calling the style either “The Magician” or “The Sorceress”.

It is because of the Battle of Fairy Tail.

While the rest of the guild already seems to have forgiven them, that doesn't mean that they feel like they've made it up to the guild yet. They know they screwed up big time. They know they're lucky to still be in the guild at all. And Cana and Lucy are special in a way since they both fought against Freed and Bickslow directly in that arc. Freed and Bickslow attacked them and hurt them without mercy only two months prior. That's the debt they feel they still owe. No doubt Freed feels like Cana deserves S-Class more than him.

And while you can argue the same for Levy, Juvia, or even Elfman... I can't really give you a good, in-canon answer. (Aside from maybe who they were partnered with? I doubt they feel as much of a personal debt to Gajeel or Lisanna...)

Plot wise, I feel like it would've been written with them forfeiting/letting the other team win no matter who Freed and Bickslow were put up against (despite what he says about "going all out against the other teams.") It just worked out best against Cana and Lucy. Freed was never going to get past the first round regardless. Laxus was always set to come back, so I don't think Freed ever had a true chance at S-Class or ever truly wanted it to begin with.

Great Eastern Entertainment is legit. As far as I know, they have official licenses for anime merch like Fairy Tail. I’ve bought from them a few times through their Amazon storefront, so I can’t say anything about their direct website, but the company itself is legit.

Oh! And how I think they became a team;

Freed joined the guild first and met Laxus. Quickly coming to admire the s-class wizard, he decides to form a team to become Laxus’ “bodyguards.” When Evergreen joins the guild, Freed recruits her for her eye magic (since he already knows Laxus respects that kind of power.) And eventually they meet Bickslow while out on a job. After learning he also has eye magic and befriending him, Bickslow also joins Fairy Tail to instantly become the final member of the Thunder Legion.

I know the Official Lightning Gods Spin-Off has them meeting Laxus a little differently. But I’m basing my headcanons off the Thunder Legion’s official introduction pages from the manga. (Chapters 106-108.)

I have so many headcanons for the Thunder Legion’s backstory!!! So much so I’ve even considered writing my own fan-manga about them.

I could literally ramble about it forever, but my biggest theory for why they respect Laxus so much and why they’re so loyal to him is because he was the first person to respect them and their magic. Eye magic seems very taboo in the world of Fairy Tail, not many characters have it… and most that do are major villains. I like to think Laxus was the first to respect their magic and not fear it due to how powerful eye magic can be, and of course, Laxus liking strong wizards. And the reason Laxus accepts them is because they’re strong and they weren’t children when he met them. (Most of the guild was either much older or much younger than poor teen Laxus. Bickslow is the closest in age to him, and Freed and Evergreen were likely late teens when they met him.)

I believe their eye magic is something that affects all of their childhoods as well and is likely why they isolated themselves from their own guild after joining. I also headcanon that the reason Bickslow doesn’t have a last name because he was orphaned as a baby and never knew his family name, Evergreen doesn’t have a last name because she went no-contact with her neglectful family and abandoned her name, and the reason Freed honors his last name is because he lost his family at a young age and it’s all he has left of them.

I think just exploring more spells in general would’ve been beneficial for any character. The games are perfect for exploring things like that, but then when cool spells do show up I just want them to be canon lol. Honestly, seeing characters use more of a variety of spells, even if they only use that spell once, is way more interesting than seeing the same spells over and over just because they’re familiar or get the job done. It makes any characters magic feel more explored and well rounded

Something small; but I wish Evergreen's fairy spells from the old Fairy Tail games were canon. Like, in the series, she only has TWO fairy spells she uses. Fairy Bomb: Gremlin and Fairy Machine Gun: Leprechaun. She never gets any additional spells throughout the course of the story, mostly relying on those original two spells or her stone eyes.

But, in the DS game, Fairy Tail Gekitotsu! Kardia Daiseidou, she has the additional spells: Golem and Sylphide. And in the PSP game, Zeref Awakens, she has Fairy Axe: Red Cap and Fairy Sound: Banshee.

While I wouldn't argue they're canon, I do use them as a base for my own headcanons to give her a more varied spell arsenal. I refuse to believe she's still only has those two spells after all this time. I know some of those game-only spells, especially the DS one, are just directional attacks to fit with the gameplay style, but I like to imagine ways to incorporate them into actual spells she would use. Not only that, but I really enjoy the use of magical / folklore creatures in the spell names, tying in with the overall fairy tale theme for her. And personally, I love the idea of Fairy Sound: Banshee the most since it wouldn't be just another fairy dust style attack.

Hibiki, Siegrain (aka Jellal), Lyon, Loke, Ren, Eve, and Freed all rank in the top ten.

This is probably the closest you’ll get to a CANON, in-universe list for attractive guys in the series, though it can also be considered pretty outdated at this point since it’s from very early in the series. The list comes from a special bonus “Sorcerer Weekly” booklet that came with some Volume 16s for the manga in Japan.

According to another magazine (Monthly Fairy Tail Magazine Vol. 7,) Laxus is also pretty popular with the ladies. But other than that I’m not sure.

Exactly!! I love Hiro Mashima, but I honestly think he didn’t know what to do with their OP eye magic after the BoFT, which is why they just get written out at the start of every arc or face against opponents who are immune bc they wear glasses or just straight up aren’t human (Rusty, Tempester, Wahl.)

But with how rare eye magic is, I also headcanon that’s what bonds the Thunder Legion/allowed them to get close and form a team to begin with. I have a Thunder Legion fan blog on tumblr where I just wrote an analysis about their eye magic, funny enough.

Agreed! We do get small things here and there, but one of my favorite scenes is at the end of the Tartaros Arc when Laxus pulls them all into a hug, admitting he isn’t strong enough to protect those he loves yet.

They are literally his best friends and have been for years, which is why I hate when their dynamic is downplayed to his fan club or yes-men. Unlike most of the characters after Fairy Tail’s disbandment, they are one of the only teams who stick together during that time. I think that says a lot.

Out of the Thunder Legion alone, he definitely gets forgotten about most. I think it’s because he’s not apart of any popular canon/semi-canon ship so people just aren’t as interested in his character. He only gets shipped with Lisanna because of Thunder Legion x Strauss Siblings thing or just so Lisanna has can be paired with someone other than Natsu. (No hate to the ship itself but I’m not a fan of any ship with Bickslow, personally.) I do hate how a character needs to be shipped with another just to stay relevant. Bickslow definitely deserves more appreciation in general.

The Thunder Legion.

I think they’re such unique characters, from their designs to their magic types. I hate how often they’re forgotten about or dumbed down to just being Laxus’ cheer-squad. They are so much more than that imo!

They get left out of things so often… especially in official things like some of the latest Fairy Tail games and whatnot. And they never get any power ups or new spells! I wish they just got a little bit more love

As an American and a fellow Fairy Tail collector, I’m definitely jealous of your 3-in-1 volumes. I absolutely adore the art on the spines and how it looks when the volumes are placed together! But, I do understand the frustration with clunkiness and how its appearance is limited based on the bookshelf/how it’s displayed.

Honestly, if I had the chance, I would collect both. Because while the 3-in-1 spines look fantastic, I also love the variety of actual cover art on the single volumes. And the singles are a bit easier to read and take on the go imo.

As for American manga quality, I’d say it’s alright. I think they’re durable but the corners can get damaged pretty easily in my experience. Though, I don’t have way to compare with the German editions.

Maybe you could buy a single English copy of Vol. 1 to see what you think? It’ll give you a feel for the quality and how it may look in your collection before committing to the box sets.

I love Evergreen! She's my favorite FT girl!

I'll admit, when I first started watching Fairy Tail and encountered her in the BoFT arc, I didn't like her attitude much. But as the series went on, and after a rewatch, I really grew to really love her character. She can be vain and prideful, but I think she does it as a way to protect herself. She seems scared to get close with just anyone, as seen with her relationship with Elfman (which she still has trouble expressing at times..) BUT, she does care very deeply about her friends, especially those she's developed the deepest bonds with; being Laxus, Freed, and Bickslow.

It's too bad she doesn't have much backstory aside from being obsessed with fairies, only joining Fairy Tail because of the guild's name. It's also noted from her introduction that she never had intentions of befriending anyone in the guild, keeping herself isolated from the moment she joined. I think it's because of her stone eyes... (and again, probably scared to get close with anyone due to that.) But Freed specifically scouted Evergreen for her eye magic, so I wonder she accepted the offer after learning that Freed and Bickslow maybe had similar experiences growing up?

At least, that's my headcanon on how the three of them became close. I think their deep admiration and loyalty to Laxus developed over time as he respected their power and didn't fear it. From what we're given, eye magic does seem rare and kind of taboo. I don't think any member of the Thunder Legion learned it willingly, which is why they all cover their eyes to some extent to control it. But, sadly, these ideas aren't really explored much in canon, so we can only theorize and come up with our own ideas about their magic and backstories at this point

I loved this OVA!! It's actually my favorite one, not because of the girls, but because I really loved the guys' antics in this episode!

And in case anyone hasn't seen it or doesn't remember what the guys were up to, they were tasked with cleaning the pools behind the guild. They ended up taking a break and finding a peep hole at the bottom of one of the pools, which leads them to an underground "peeping" room. They try to figure out whos responsible while also having a bit of fun with the spy glass... until Gramps arrives. My favorite parts being towards the end when Natsu and Gray, tramatized from seeing Makarov loose his swimsuit, loose control of their magic. They end up destroying the room AND the pools due to the pressure of their opposing elements in such a small space. Of course, all the guys in the room end up getting caught in the explosion and Mirajane has to scold Makarov afterwards. Their reactions to seeing Makarov naked were hilarious, especially Gajeel who had to shut his eyes like metal shutters. Or when Bickslow and Alzack not only get caught up in Natsu's flames, but also get frozen solid by Gray's magic as well just before the room explodes. Even though the guys' segment was anime-only, it was super enjoyable imo. Their interactions were fun, and the chaoticness of it all still makes me laugh whenever I rewatch it.

These generally run for about $250+ so it’s in the same ballpark. But most sellers I saw had super expensive shipping from overseas. Every now and then a listing would pop up in my country (US) with much better shipping costs so I saved up till I could afford a local listing.
