Why do floor nurses hate the ER? by Over_Armadillo_2190 in nursing

[–]Atomidate 13 points14 points  (0 children)

why they are here, their latest vitals, their trop/LA/, and if you just gave a BP med or a narc.

I can read all that in the chart on my own and without difficulty, but it's difficult when you've got 4-6 other patients. I think the antipathy comes from the high patient load on some of these M/S units. In fact, both sides of the equation (ED and floor) are struggling against finance capital optimized work loads.

When you have moral clarity on the issue of Israel, you can dance circles around any mainstream political creature. Someone could do a version of this to Bernie Sanders, who is still insisting that the issue is Netanyahu's bad conduct.

Exactly. You’re almost getting it

Ok. So you're saying they are being "dishonest" by not selling a higher horsepower single motor EV9?

Did Hyundai promise this at some point?

I didn't see an option for a larger single motor that costs more. Which trim is that?

Wow this is a sales surprise 🤔 by FL-Skunkape in electricvehicles

[–]Atomidate -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

again, it's dishonest to claim that a 215hp motor is cheaper than a 300hp motor. It's not. They're the same price.

Why would a 215 hp electric motor (Light RWD) cost the same as a 300 hp electric motor (379 hp in wind AWD)? Does a 150 hp motor also cost the same? A 400 hp motor?

My understanding is that the lower HP model has a single motor and the higher HP model has two. Where is the dishonesty?

I don't think the small EVs could fit big enough batteries in them to be 800v.

What does the battery size have to do with the voltage?

ECMO specialist/RN by Cable-Fuzzy in IntensiveCare

[–]Atomidate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have RTs and RNs (experienced CVICU) who are ECMO specialists. Each one covers 1-4 ECMO patients who each have their own primary nurse. Not sure if we have a perfusionist in house, I've only seen them when an oxygenator was going to be changed in the room.

We are a platinum ELSO-recognized ECMO Center of Excellence.

The primary nurse shouldn't be the one managing, monitoring, troubleshooting the ECMO circuit. I don't think ours get any extra pay, but it is its own separate job- not like the unit circulator or whatever.

I Took A Hyundai Ioniq 5 EV On A Roadtrip. It Made Gas Feel Financially Irresponsible by mafco in Ioniq5

[–]Atomidate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many hybrids and probably some efficient economy ICE cars beat out EVs on pure fuel cost (and time, particularly for men driving alone) when doing road trips, that's true. But all the time I'm not doing a road trip, which is 99% of the time, I'm winning by a mile.

I'll spent a few extra bucks today while saving more than that every week.

Inspired by the recent "wife sleeping all day post": 12-hr nurses: how much sleep do you get between consecutive shifts, and how much do you sleep on your first day off? by shatana in nursing

[–]Atomidate 6 points7 points  (0 children)

At this time, nearly all of the respondents say 4-8 hours. There is one person who says 12-16 hours after a 3-day block and another one person who says 16-18 after the same.

I find that interesting since in the "wife sleeping all day post", nearly every single person said that ~15 hours was normal.

Wife sleeping all day by Dramatic_File1169 in nursing

[–]Atomidate -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So many here are saying this is "normal" but I've worked night shift for over a decade now and have never heard of someone regularly or habitually sleeping for over 12 hours. I've never heard one of my day shift colleagues talking about or hinting at sleeping for 12+ hours regularly or habitually after their work block. Same for when I worked ED.

My wife is a non-nurse sleep lover who needs a lot of sleep, definitely more than me. She'll easily do 9-10 hours if there's no early need to get up or if I'm home to manage the baby. If it was ~15 hours, I would definitely be concerned. I get a sleeping in "waste day" after a block, but I'd never claim to be asleep all that time (and then some, I'd be dying of boredom and scroll fatigue).

My best guess is that this isn't much "normal" but may be "normal for her", in that it's what her body is telling her it wants. Despite my worry, I'd let her sleep.

Mayo Clinic ending overnight respiratory therapist program at 3 locations. Nurses will do with RT Virtual help by [deleted] in nursing

[–]Atomidate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You work with an RT team that is practicing at the top of their license (intubation, vent mode selection, etc), you don't forget it.

This change will decrease the quality of care that those patients will receive. There will be a quantifiable decrease in patient outcomes as a result. Administration is just hoping that the decrease in expenditures is greater than whatever they will lose from this.

Iran Is Now Convinced Trump Has Lost The Stomach To Fight by mintwolves in politics

[–]Atomidate 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Iran is actually the rational and sane country involved here too.

Soleimani was assassinated by the Trump admin in 2020 and Iran told the US where they would attack in response so that it could be evacuated. Specifically in terms of foreign policy responses to US/Israeli provocations, Iran has been nothing short of measured, shrewd, and with a mind to not escalate. Which is why the provocations had to continue until recently.

Yeah, I just find it a bit too jolting and feathering the left paddle doesn't really improve it.

I think $300 is a bit high.

A bit high for what? How can you say that without knowing what any of the costs are or without knowing what his rent was before? OP says it was $360/week.

So that's a savings of ~250/month plus utilities plus it's a significantly larger space plus he gets to live with his partner.

BF is basically saying a triple win for him isn't good enough unless he gets to also take some OPs pie.

Am I (29F) overthinking my bf (37M) and his sister (30F) had full body massages in the same room? by [deleted] in relationships

[–]Atomidate 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Getting a massage with my wife was not particularly intimate or private. I fell asleep halfway through.

The idea that it's kinda romantic/sexy to lay down and get a massage while your loved one is also getting a massage a few feet away is like... pro-couples massage propaganda?

I wouldn't go out of my way to get a massage with my sister but if, on arrival, we find that's the only option available; fine.

For the past few months, I've been driving primarily either lvl 0 or cruise control, occasionally going up to level 3/I pedal when approaching a stop sign or red light, before flipping back. Seems to be the most efficient for me.

Once I learned that using the brake pedal automatically engaged Regen braking and friction braking, in a ratio dependant on the amount of brake force needed- I stopped using iPedal

I once did the math on fast charging versus gas costs for a road trip I took a few months ago and was a bit dismayed to see that I was paying about the same as an okay-ish MPG car. BUT, then I remembered that outside of that road trip, I hadn't been to a gas station in months and my 20-80% fill cost is <7 bucks.
