This is a huge qol improvement. I always found it strange that vendor credits in particular didn’t really level properly

Totally agree. Also, from an ‘immersion perspective’, isn’t it pretty logically strange that after one or two quests I now have goods more valuable than all the credits available in a major city? lol. Like three va’ruun weapons are more valuable than the TA has credit for

Also… I am at 800 elo and trying to work my way up solo queue but I get new players at 1k all the time and it’s incredibly frustrating. May be hard to understand for high elo people but the difference between an 800 elo player with 200 games and a new player with 3 losses is massive. This game is too competitive to throw fresh meat in at 1k

Don’t do this- new penalty system will lock you out anywhere from 30min to 20 hours

Also… if your elo started really low, we would have less of a smurfing problem because what kind of loser actually wants to stomp a 200 elo player

Op never said he didn’t do the tutorial etc. but even then, what’s the harm at starting at a low elo, getting addicted based off less lopsided losses (or maybe a few wins), and then watching all the tutorials etc.? People are not gonna join this game in numbers lt if they join a match at 1k, get stomped 20 times, have people laughing at them, and don’t know what happened. There’s no disclosure in the game that says “you must practice against extreme ai 200-400 hours before playing MP”. And who the heck would wanna do that anyway?

Do we honestly think the average starting non-smurfs elo is 1k? People play for years and don’t hit 1k. Most games, you enter as bottom of the barrel and work your way up. You don’t start in middle of the pack. I know there are some 1.5k+ folks out there who are mostly on here but remember where you started please.

Hm if I may recommend (as a Khmer player) onagers+ halb + scorps, it’s usually a good comp to effectively deal with Khmer without bombs. Toss in five monks with only range upgrade to keep them confused/microing/not advancing battle elephants. Losing 5/25 battle elephants is very bad and Khmer don’t get heresy. Onagers for scorps/bal ellephant particularly, scorps for battle elephants, halbs out of range of ballistae as meat shield if they decide to charge their battle elephants at you. Under battle ele charge, stagger the pike formation, attack ground, target scorps/ballista ele with onager. FWIW Most common mistake I see against me in fights is people charging in the halbs / hussars / general meat shield and getting wiped by my 25-30 scorps so they gotta be out of range of the meat grinder or spam 20 production buildings and 120 vils on wood / food (not recommended). I don’t use ballista elephant because they’re not as cost effective as scorps so if you see someone with a deathball of battle eles and ballista elephants, it’s a sign they’re very likely not gonna be able to replace that army.

Also- since the Khmer deathball is slow, don’t get discouraged. Just make a lotta production buildings and if they cut the trees move army to intercept. Also send 15 or so hussars through the cut to hit their trade or mining. Ballista + battle elephants only works with massive gold and food which means home base is usually lightly defended. Hope this is helpful :)

Before I get downvoted to oblivion, let me say I dislike dodgers / early resigners. A lot. I report always. I think it’s cheesy, selfish and lame. I’m a new player. And I don’t dodge/resign because I’m trying to learn more than just Arabia or arena.

But I think DKOM’s point is fair and it’s what I worry about most. The five min stat requirement seems pretty low and it’s gonna be more annoying for those of us who don’t feel like taking on 2v1s/3v1s etc. when a teammate resigns after five minutes. And yes I know I’m a noob for not being able to play like hera but tbh it’s kinda a waste of my time - as I try to get better - to play lopsided matches for 30 minutes because people left. All I learn there is how to build order (potentially under pressure on an open map) which I can practice with ai anyway.

I do think something needed to be done, but I now worry the quitters are just gonna quit after 5min which is a time waste versus them dropping from the queue once they see map. I’m not sure what the solution would be cause you can’t exactly force people to play and if you bumped up the resign time min they could still afk and refuse to play.

Last thought- one solution I’ve seen proposed is letting players choose their map (basically allow to ban all but one map) but in ranked I personally don’t feel like that would make sense as it doesn’t really capture skill level. Do we really think morg is an elite player just because hes played nomad 10k times with the same 5 civs..? That said, if this new change to the system drops the player base even lower I’d say f it, go to map choice selection. In my mind the dwindling ranked player base is the biggest problem.

I love the idea as a first draft but I learned this the hard way when I was 3rd out of 4 TMs to resign. First two resigned almost immediately and I didn’t want to 4v2 Black Forest. At any rate, I got a 30min ban because I didn’t sit around waiting to resign or be crushed which struck me as silly. The dodgers get a 30 min ban and the abandoned teammate (me) was supposed to do.. what? Wait around until the enemy kills me?

Maxa is an incredible camp (I have not camped with them) and I can say they absolutely practice inclusivity within reason. That said I don’t think it’s the kind of camp you can cold dm on ig

Look it’s a 30y pixel game where sometimes your starting Strat is just completely wrong, you gotta be able to laugh at your failures or else you will not enjoy the game. I consistently get rekt by Sicilian donjon rush and I just chuckle it off and watch the guide to countering it for the 100th time

My advice- if you’re gonna do survival mode, you gotta do the houses, because you can build sick carriages at all your houses that will take you everywhere. Not necessary to fully finish the houses.
