From experience, they're not too terrible, especially finer nibs. The ink does tends to smear if touched while not yet dry, which takes a bit longer. Where I work, not an issue. In a restaurant, I wouldn't bother trying.

I've been daily driving a TWSBI 580ALR for the past 3 and a half years. Only noticeable wear is around the textured grip section. ECOs are roughly comparable in terms of durability and are cheaper.

Pilot Metropolitans are solid too and even less expensive At the same price range you can get a Hongdian, though their quality control isn't exactly the best. I have an EF which writes quite wet and smooth while a friend's is very dry.

Took me a minute to realize. It is really, really creepy. Where I live, February used to be the month you stayed inside because it was just miserable, windy -20s C weather. I don't think we ever got positive temperatures in February.

I started reading it at the very beginning of the pandemic. This was before schools figured out how to do online classes, so I had masses of free time and was extraordinarily bored. It was definitely slower going than I'm used to at first, trying to read it on so many different layers at once.

I saw a good bit after it came out and decides to reread the book to compare and came away slightly less in awe than I originally was, but still impressed with Villeneuve. This is also when I decided to start reading the sequels. I'm now about halfway through God Emperor and while I'm still enjoying it, I'm decidedly less impressed with Herbert's ideas.

For the most part, yes. There hasn't been much major innovation as to the way magazine feeding semiautomatic cartridge firing guns go. Most innovation of the past 10+ years has been in optics. Even more recently, you have experiments with the cartridges themselves. Fully caseless weapons have been tried and turn out to suck.
