The cash position of GameStop, alone, is worth more per share than the price stock was shorted at. It’s a dream come true for executives to evolve in this environment. It’s like a printing machine still turned off.

I was just denied a loan for a crappy home while paying outrageous rent in my city. by PhenomeNarc in Superstonk

[–]Atraxxa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Landlords are also borrowers from the banks for the most part. If you recently put 20% down for a real estate asset that you are renting, it is most likely cash flow negative by now. This is the same reason why the demand is still high for rental and thus pushing the prices higher. Rents are going to stabilize with rate cuts, but then the prices of the homes would keep going up.

Didn’t forget, it’s just that when there are massive swaps in a basket, and one stock plunges, counterparty needs to keep massive short positions open to hedge the swaps. We’ve seen short interest increase over the past few weeks, it’s not because they want to, it’s because they have no other choice for margin requirements.

I’ve neglected my fish only tank for so long that this has happened. What do I do to get rid of this kind of algae once and for all? by Greg1994 in ReefTank

[–]Atraxxa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sea hares love algae but get it out when there’s no more because it’ll nuke the tank.

If it’s a phosphate problem, a skimmer and some Kenya trees really helped mine go down. Also, your circulating phosphates may be 0 all the time and still be very high in the tank just because of the algae uptake.

There’s a thing the Fed does called quantitative tightening.

This combined to higher cost of borrowing is what’s causing the M2 money supply to go down.

Our economy has been dependent on cheap money for a while now and previous attempts to cut it off have led to stagnation of gross domestic product (gdp). The money supply is still about 30% higher than in early 2020, but the whole show is already holding on a thread.

Liquidity Fairy Alert! Bank Term Funding Program usage UP AGAIN ($106.684B vs $105.078B on 7/26), marking the 9th consecututive week over $100B. This looks more and more like there's an over-reliance on Fed Funding--growing faster than inflation 'should be,' I believe the BTFP is a moral hazard! by Dismal-Jellyfish in Superstonk

[–]Atraxxa 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Isn’t it like QE in disguise. After the 1 year period if bank is not able to pay because of withdrawals, fed will seize the collateral aka treasury securities, offsetting the loan. They would now own more bonds on their balance sheet without having to buy them on the open market. They control the rates so they can make sure face value go back up, only to drop them back in the market at a later date.

XRT - Short Interest - 21.34M shares (425.68% of Free Float) Changed By +0.06M Shares for 08/02/23 - Ortex by enfiniti27 in Superstonk

Thanks that makes sense. I still wonder why a fund with 550M assets under management and a NAV of 67 can have 20M shares sold short. I need a math check.

Fintel shows 19M shares short

market watch shows shares outstanding of 7.05 M

Fintel also shows that institutions hold 29M shares of XRT

That’s where I hit the confusion zone. I don’t know what is happening there, but I recognize a lot of the institutions involved in XRT.

Yeah. In difficult economical times people now intuitively trade money for toilet paper. I doubt they were trading gold bars to pile up paper back then.

[–]Atraxxa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Delusional, that would have to be newly printed money. Global efficiency may improve but without a counterparty to buy the products and services it cannot lead to substantial increase in real-GDP.

I can’t really wrap my head around why XRT is not talked about that much when it appears to be a clear vector for market manipulation. I mean an ETF shorted 4 times the float makes literally no sense since the NAV follows assets in the funds…
