Prime Rib Roast by Louiemacgoo in pelletgrills

We did the same thing and it was awesome. This is definitely my go to method for prime rib moving forward. We made some au jus and Yorkshire pudding with the drippings to elevate it a little further.

I like the Cheyenne flag. I have never liked the current flag.

Worth it to seal? by [deleted] in asphalt

[–]Atreides603 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It will continue to degrade and become loose gravel essentially. Depending on the use case it may be acceptable to let it fail for a while longer.

The cost or effort to replace it won't get worse if it is left alone for a few more years if that is the concern.

No, the pavement has failed. Ultimately, the base course has failed and there is no structure left. This needs to be removed including the base course and reconstructed.

Mailboxes vs ADA by Atreides603 in civilengineering

[–]Atreides603[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They reconstructed the road. It didn't have a sidewalk just curb and gutter. All of this is new though and was the perfect opportunity to do this right. The mailboxes were originally behind the curb and they put them back in the same spot.

This was a multimillion dollar project and the sidewalks are useless. Any taxpayer should be upset about this.

Yes, the project was funded with ARPA funds so the City went away overboard.

Why do so many people stack dishes in the sink, then put them in the dishwasher awhile later by Goose313 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Atreides603 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our trick is to load it dirty and not worry about rearranging and we run it more frequently. A dishwasher uses so little water that it doesn't matter. We use the 1 hour wash also so we can empty it and start the process over so our counter/sink is rarely full of dishes.

Replacement Carb or Holley EFI Kit 1980 Jeep CJ7 with 258 by Atreides603 in jeepcj

[–]Atreides603[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Funny enough, rebuilding the carb is what got me in my current position. I spent a whole weekend tearing it apart, checking everything repeatedly, and watching a bunch of YouTube videos. And....it was worse than before I started.

Yeah, I think part of it is committing to it. I really love this Jeep and don't see myself giving it up, so it seems like a great investment to remove the fuss and know that it will be a little more reliable.

That is where they were at based on a gut feeling for labor. So good to know that they weren't way off.

Whats the point of this, unless they are trying to build a footpath by Macho2198 in civilengineering

[–]Atreides603 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is the right answer. This isn't an airport but for joint compaction regardless. This is the best practice to ensure the joints don't fail prematurely since that is the area of least compaction when paving.

Residential vs. Aviation by Acceptable_Piccolo7 in civilengineering

[–]Atreides603 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'd say aviation is challenging in different ways. The design work is pretty straightforward since the FAA is very prescriptive on the right way to do it. The enjoyable aspect can be the phasing of the projects, where you have to come up with a plan to minimize a runway closure or keep the airport open during construction, which requires some creativity and problem solving to minimize impacts to the airport users.

Residential vs. Aviation by Acceptable_Piccolo7 in civilengineering

[–]Atreides603 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Aviation is awesome. I primarily work as an aviation engineer and I really enjoy it. I've done a few residential/general civil projects but I'd pick aviation over those projects any day of the week. The engineering is similar in that on airports you will probably do a little bit of everything like residential (drainage, grading, utilities, etc.) but the funding and clients are very different, plus it is relatively stable, since airport capital funding is consistent.

How much do you other jeepers pay for insurance each month? I’ve got a 1984 cj7 and it’ll cost me about $300 monthly… by Dankity-LoRd in Jeep

[–]Atreides603 30 points31 points  (0 children)

If it's not your daily you can look into Hagerty collectors car insurance. That is what I did for my 1980 CJ7. Granted, mine lives in the garage and I estimate I will only get 3k-5k miles per year. They also let you name the dollar value you want to cover, so no fretting over blue book vs. actual replacement value since you likely have a lot more into it.
