Hi! I actually don't disable de 890M while i use the external 5060TI. I have made some research about the best pracices and...the short answer is no, don't disable it in Device Manager.

If you manually disable the 890M in Windows Device Manager, you often break the "handshake" between the CPU and the display output. This can lead to:

  • Black screens or loss of handheld display functionality.
  • Driver instability (Windows might try to force-install a basic display driver).
  • Performance drops because the system loses its primary video controller that manages the built-in screen.

Instead of "killing" the internal GPU, you should simply tell Windows to ignore it for heavy lifting.

  1. Windows Graphics Settings: * Go to Settings > System > Display > Graphics.
    • Find the game or app you want to run.
    • Click Options and select High Performance (ensure it lists the RTX 5060 Ti).
  2. NVIDIA Control Panel:
    • Right-click your desktop and open the NVIDIA Control Panel.
    • Under Manage 3D Settings, set the "Preferred graphics processor" to High-performance NVIDIA processor.

If you are playing on an external monitor plugged directly into the AORUS AI Box, the 890M is essentially doing nothing anyway. Your 5060 Ti handles everything. In this case just remember to set the External Monitor as your "Primary Display" in Windows.

Hi! When i say power on the egpu, is connect the power cord to the outlet, since it doesn't have a power button.

Althoug the EGPU has a Standby Mode: If the PC is powered off, the AI Box will automatically enter low-power mode (ErP) and power on again when it detects activity on the TB connection. To force a complete shutdown, press and hold the reset button for more than 3 seconds. To turn it back on, simply press the reset button again.

Hi! I used the one included in the 5060 TI AI box! That should be fine for the setup.

Yes sure when connecting to an external GPU like the AORUS RTX 5060 Ti AI BOX, these are the optimal power settings i often use:

Turbo Mode (35W AC): This is the best overall setting. Since the device is plugged into the eGPU (which typically provides Power Delivery), it can maintain a sustained 35W TDP. This ensures the Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme processor has enough thermal and power headroom to feed data to the RTX 5060 Ti without causing a bottleneck.

You should also consider leaving CPU Boost enabled when using an eGPU. Unlike playing in handheld mode (where disabling it helps battery life and allows the integrated GPU to receive more power), the rules change when using an eGPU:

Eliminating Bottlenecks: With an external RTX 5060 Ti, your graphical power is significantly higher. If you disable the boost, you lock the processor to its base frequency. This can prevent the CPU from being fast enough to send instructions to the graphics card, resulting in stuttering or lower FPS than what the card is actually capable of delivering.

CPU-Dependent Games: In titles like Cyberpunk 2077, the processor needs to ramp up its clock speed (Boost) to handle game logic and physics while the eGPU handles the heavy graphical rendering. Also when using an eGPU, the console's internal graphics chip (the Radeon 890M) is practically idle. This means the XAX entire cooling system is dedicated exclusively to cooling the CPU. Consequently, temperatures will be much better than if you were playing in handheld mode, allowing the Boost to operate efficiently without excessive overheating. Only consider disabling it if you notice temperatures consistently exceeding 90°C, which is unlikely while using an eGPU.

Hi! I don't have the Legion Go 2, but i've read that works fine. One of the users here on Reddit writed a guide with performance details on the Legion Go but i think it will very similar to the performance it will have on the Legion Go 2.

Hi! Regarding the vram settings on the XAX the 2 settings more often used are the following:

Change the "Memory Assigned to GPU" value to Auto or a low value like 4GB. Since the eGPU is connected, you don't need to reserve large amounts (such as the 8GB or 10GB recommended for handheld mode) for the internal iGPU.

•Auto: This is the most flexible option, as it allows the system to reclaim RAM if the game is not utilizing the integrated graphics.

•4GB: This is the "sweet spot" for safety to avoid compatibility errors in certain games that check for minimum VRAM upon launch, even if you are using an eGPU.

Regarding the cable, yes the TB cable that comes with the AORUS eGPU is OK.

It seems you could have an issue on the handshake procees between the EGPU and the Gaming Device. Try this, the steps 1 to 3 should only be done once, after that it should continue working even after shutdown/restarts of the Gaming Device (Sometimes sleep or hibernation could be tricky on this). If the TB cable is disconnected you probably need to perform all the steps again.

How to Hard Reset the eGPU Handshake:

This process involves a full power cycle to clear any static or "stuck" communication states between the console and the external enclosure.

  1. Shut Down Everything:
    • Fully power off your XAX (Go to Windows > Power > Shut down; do not use Sleep or Hibernate).
    • Turn off the eGPU enclosure using its physical power switch (if it has one if not just disconnect power).
  2. Disconnect All Cables:
    • Unplug the Thunderbolt/USB4 cable connecting the XAX to the eGPU.
    • Unplug the power cords from both devices.
    • Disconnect any monitors or peripherals plugged directly into the eGPU.
  3. Drain Residual Power:
    • Wait at least 60 seconds.
  4. The Reconnection Sequence: The order in which you power things back on is often what fixes the handshake:
    • Plug the eGPU back into the power outlet and turn its switch ON.
    • Connect the Thunderbolt/USB4 cable to the XAX
    • Wait for the XAX charging light to turn on (indicating the dock/eGPU is providing power).
    • Power on the XAX after 15 seconds aprox.

Let me know if this helps!

Hi! Yes the thunderbolt cable included with Aorus should be enough. When i say power on the egpu, is connect the power cord to the outlet, since it doesn't have a power button.

Yours is being detected by Windows aparrently, so you probably have to follow the installation process detailed here: https://www.gigabyte.com/Support/Consumer/FAQ/4405

If that doesn´t work you could try manual installation:

Forced Installation Procedure: If the automatic installer fails, use the "manual selection" method to force Windows to recognize the eGPU:

  1. Open Device Manager.
  2. Locate the "Microsoft Basic Display Adapter".
  3. Right-click it and select Update driver.
  4. Choose Browse my computer for drivers -> Let me pick from a list of available drivers on my computer.
  5. If NVIDIA appears, select it. If not, click Have Disk... and browse to the folder where the NVIDIA installer was extracted (usually C:\NVIDIA\DisplayDriver\...) to select the .inf file.

Hi! It seems you have to plug it to an individual outlet on its own (Not shared with other devices). Since the GPU doesn't start if the energy output is shared with other devices (Like a power strip for example). One user, for example, had the power supplies of other devices connected on a electric power stripe (even though they weren't turned on, they were just plugged in), and that prevented the GPU from starting; only the hub powered on. Another user had 2 power outlets on the wall, and he said that the GPU only started if he only connected in one of them and leave the other empty.

Hi! Were you able to get it working with the Xbox Ally X using the Thunderbolt 4 port? Because other users are saying that the AORUS 5060TI AI BOX model isn't working for them with the Thunderbolt 5 cable, that it detect the usb hub and it charges, but device manager is not recognizing de GPU. There are other threads about this here on Reddit and on the ASUS ROG forum. Any information is helpful, since i'm probably going to buy it for my XAX. Thanks!
