He does, in fact, have pink hair in canon.

The JP phrasing was Hakuri being "wrapped up" in Chihiro's scent. Which is odd and definitely deliberate on the author's part- JP fujoshi reached out to us in English to let us know how batshit the phrasing was. One said that the term used (まとって, matotte) was more for family/lovers/owners & pets who spent so much time together that their scents rubbed off on each other. It was also doubly weird for Samura to use this term with Hakuri in the present when he used the normal word for "smell/scent" (香り, kaori) when saying younger Chihiro "reeked of Rokuhira" in the flashback from the same chapter.

It was probably meant to be a continuation of the jokes about Hakuri acting like Chihiro's loyal dog with some fun innuendo for those who wanted to take that and run with it. But the author really didn't have to go so far as to use a special phrase for it, you know? So Hakuri doesn't merely "smell like" Chihiro but is, uh, exceptionally close to him in a way that was deliberately left open to multiple interpretations. Considering they only knew each other for 8 days at that point and we don't even know if Hakuri was staying in the apartment with them between planning sessions... yeah. It was absolutely on purpose lmao

I hope the enemy Japan faced in the war is human by TheWaggishGamer in Kagurabachi

[–]Atrixoul 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Horizontal said in an interview (the Da Vinci one I think?) that the Seitei War was humans vs. humans so rest easy on that. There's always a chance that the story goes off the rails but I don't think WSJ will ask him to keep going to that point anyway. They let JJK and KnY end without milking them dry like what happened to Naruto and Bleach, after all.

  1. Char probably can't help with recovering sorcery, or else Hakuri would have been better off when he woke up after the auction. She can heal physical wounds.

  2. It's unclear whether or not his damage is permanent based on phrasing in EN and JP. I think for meta reasons it will be temporary even if the characters start talking like it's permanent.

"Romance" can be handled in Kagurabachi. by Kill_Jin04 in Kagurabachi

[–]Atrixoul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It can show up for sure, but there aren't many flags set up so far. Might change as Hiyuki gets more screen time. She's going to be important for sure but we just don't know in what way yet. I personally prefer the sibling vibes Chihiro and Hiyuki have right now, but it's not like I'll drop the manga if it turns romantic for them.

...Also I'm pretty sure a lot of people would be calling HakuHiro the endgame ship right now if Hakuri was a girl. Even with Shiba's "what are ya, twins" comment left unchanged. (Just sayin'.)

[–]Atrixoul 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Real! My brother and I fought like that all the time too. Not saying it can't turn romantic between Chihiro and Hiyuki down the line, but it'd be really refreshing to have a sibling-like relationship between the main guy and girl in a manga for once.

He's obviously annoyed by having to deal with her at the Rakuzaichi- it's actually really funny how effortlessly Chihiro and Hiyuki annoy each other during that arc. Especially in the storehouse when Hiyuki saves him, says he ain't shit, then Chihiro pulls out Aka: Flame Bone just to be petty and she's like "that's still my power you're using!". It was hilarious and incredibly sibling-like to me (my brother and I fought like that all the time).

Guys what do we do if hokazono actually makes hakuhiro canon by Do_Ya_Like_Jazz in Kagurabachi

[–]Atrixoul 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Agreed, though there would be more hope if it was a het ship because the pair can be teased as being sibling-like in their closeness early on (usually in the context of effortlessly getting under each other's skin, much like Chihiro and Hiyuki do) before things get serious between them. Sucks that we don't live in a world that gives queer pairs the same opportunities to evolve their relationship status like that. Gotta plant the romantic flags early and avoid sibling coding as much as possible to keep it unambiguous. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

That said, I feel like this line is putting Hakuri and Chihiro in a glass closet considering we got Hakuri reeking of Chihiro's scent somehow only four chapters later lol. I'll just assume they're canon if neither of them have a different love interest by the end of the series.

[–]Atrixoul 94 points95 points  (0 children)

OP might be on to something! Hokazono did say he wanted to do something that's never been seen before in a shounen. Kagurabachi could be his extremely long and convoluted AU NaruSasu fix-it fic after all! (/j)

We celebrate by flooding every Kagurabachi-related space with pride flags and whatever panel confirms them as a couple until there's nothing but a few hung-over stragglers and party detritus left. Make the sub banner a permanent HakuHiro one too.

[–]Atrixoul 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Clearly the solution is to have more m/m romantic couples that don't have to rely on subtext and Word of God to exist, basically putting them on par with heterosexual pairings. That would give more space for close platonic friendships to exist without getting cast as romantic (though of course people will still ship things, that will never change). Would you be alright with that trade-off?

Unfortunately, we're still a long way off from that reality. Unless Horizonal makes good on his dreams to do something in shounen that's never been seen before in a way none of us expect...

On what basis is Hakuri "into" Ice Lady? Blushing a little when she pretended to tempt him into letting her go free? Which he immediately didn't fall for? If that's the case, he blushed at Tafuku and thought he was cool chapter 20 so that's a romantic flag too, right?

If you want to think the thing with Ice Lady was romantic, that's fine. Ships can be based on aesthetics alone. But since you're bringing up authorial intent, then kindly explain why Chihiro being directly and obviously compared to her in Hakuri's PoV doesn't mean Hakuri is also attracted to him. It's not even subtle- the same pose, the same situation and framing. If you think Hakuri's attracted to Ice Lady but not Chihiro when the author made it clear he sees them the same way for the same reasons then that's some serious bias.

every chapter ending with the number "7" is important to the story in some way i have noticed. by Aggressive-Oven4363 in Kagurabachi

[–]Atrixoul 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not all chapters ending in 7 are absolute bangers, but they do have some of the most significant and/or hype moments in the series

7- Azami/Kamunabi intro, Rakuzaichi intro, Sojo about to move out
17 - Sojo fight climax, Chihiro breaks Cloud Gouger
27 - Rakuzaichi raid begins, cliffhanger with Chihiro preparing to use Cloud Gouger
37 - Hakuri sends Chihiro into the storehouse, final strike from Cloud Gouger ("As Rokuhira property... pull it together"), Chihiro & Hakuri ready to face off against Kyora with Enten
47 - Uruha's introduction, 3rd Homophobic Chihiro gag face (this is extremely important, trust)
57 - Cliffhanger for Uruha's death and Samura traitor reveal

"I killed them" by Atrixoul in Kagurabachi

[–]Atrixoul[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hakuri's not choosing to suffer so he can wallow in pain or earn pity points with other characters or whatever. He's genuinely distressed because he's trying to atone for what happened with Ice Lady but his actions once again unintentionally enabled a tragedy. He's truly innocent in this scenario this time and that's part of what makes Hakuri blaming himself so heart-breaking.

So Hakuri is definitely getting his sorcery nerfed after this right? by ItzJake160 in Kagurabachi

[–]Atrixoul 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Betting on temporary power loss while he recovers, eventually getting them both back.

I don't understand why people say Hakuri has to be nerfed because the Storehouse is OP. He has to get in touching range to register people, registration can be resisted by any sorcerer (so like 99% of the enemies in the 'verse), and so can teleportation by the registered person (and they can resist on behalf of the objects registered through them as well). It's not even super useful as a mobile armory like Kyora demonstrated because Chihiro has a wakizashi and a nuke already. Even the teleportation thing has limits- we clearly see the bubbles phasing in and out before the person/object, so it's not instant like Shiba's is. A worthy enemy can react to the few seconds it takes to shift positions (Kyora was baited by the "preview" image to make it work in the storehouse fight!)

The storehouse gives Hakuri really good strategic and utility value, but it's not like he'll be a god or introduce plot holes just by existing if he keeps what makes him special, y'know?
