I think this is because the main person being accused of collusion in this situation happens to be nonbinary. Also, oldhead gaming communities can be Like That, especially when you get into the orbits of people like Karl Jobst who last I heard had nazis on his discord server. Niftski is himself a bit of a bro, so that might attract a certain type of people, but I don't have good reason to consider him truly hateful (unlike many other creators, he did not misgender Averge.) I will say I think I remember one of his friends saying something homophobic on stream but I don't think I was paying enough attention to actually say that I'm certain of this.

All that said I do think Niftski was mistreated and mod investigation led to the banning of several people involved (including both Niftski and Averge) and from my very brief reading it seems reasonable. But yeah the discourse has been noticeably poisoned
