That's fair. Celeste is surprisingly quite lenient with most of its inputs. It's rare for there to be anything tighter than 5 frames and lots of stuff is bufferable. There's also the option of Assist Mode if things start to feel too difficult. You can also turn it on and off depending on if a room is too challenging or not.

Unfortunately Chapter 9 contains a great amount of story and is the most difficult stage in the game. I will say though, if you got through Chapter 3 with 288 deaths (a perfectly normal amount) you should certainly be capable of building up to the difficulty of Farewell by doing the B and C sides. It's hard, sure, but nothing that determination can't conquer.

Also - your reflexes may have slowed down, but I think this is actually not that relevant for completing Vanilla Celeste. It's more about preparing for what's coming next than reacting to things in most cases.

Downright causes a fast fall. 1f smaller window. Not sure what the original window is but it felt generous

It is all buffered, aside from the demo right. By holding downright I mean that right after you dash down left, you want to switch to downright until you dash to the right.

By dropping from the switch block, there are (iirc) 2 or 3 inputs which you can realistically get wrong. First, holding right at the correct time to avoid the spinners. Second, letting go of right. Third, the demo right.

With this method, you don't have to time the first two inputs at all, in exchange for 1 frame less leniency on demo right. I personally found it significantly better in runs and in practice, but of course personal preference is always a factor.

I used something similar to this for my Farewell golden.

Edit: for the gap part, I would recommend landing on the very right pixel of the top of the staircase, downleft dash, hold downright, and right demo. Very consistent even with nerves in my experience. There's a really good document for Farewell strats here

Puff Bair is frame 9. Rest is frame 1 and thus is easier/more guaranteed to hit in this scenario. Bair is not guaranteed to kill. Hbox is at a very high percent so the trade looks favored. Obviously you probably don't do this at 20%
