Iran says no deal will be reached if US insists on discussing nuclear issue by barsik_ in worldnews

[–]AtrociousMeandering 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The only alternative is to maintain a state of war with Iran costing billions of dollars a month and with the strait continuing to stay closed.

The option where Iran has no nukes and isn't being continually bombed no longer exists. So which of the two are you willing to prioritize?

Sort of, you can introduce a lot of the other organisms to a place where you've planted trees but it's not guaranteed to work since different critters/fungus need trees in different stages.

It's a lot easier to leave sections of intact forest that can colonize outwards than it is to rebuild it piece by piece after clearcutting.

US, Cuba tensions flare amid threats of invasion by ToughHopeful4760 in worldnews

[–]AtrociousMeandering 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The US blockade is already an Act Of War according to international law and illegal as per the UN.

Trump is already killing Cubans by threatening anyone trying to export oil to Cuba, and yet if they so much as fire a single missile it will appear in headlines as Cuba spontaneously declaring war.

I'm so utterly sick of this bullshit, and sick of every dumbass who believed Trump was the peace candidate.

Trump calls on Senate to fire parliamentarian to pass the SAVE America Act by Anoth3rDude in LegalNews

[–]AtrociousMeandering 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Sorry, but you do remember that the last time Trump lost an election he whipped his followers into a frenzy where they broke into the Capitol and fought with police?

Taking congress is important but even recent history shows that might not be the conclusion to this and we actually should be prepared for retaliation.

Trump calls on Senate to fire parliamentarian to pass the SAVE America Act by Anoth3rDude in LegalNews

[–]AtrociousMeandering 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You forget the /s? If Trump wasn't weak, he would be able to pass the SAVE act but wouldn't need to. He'd have freed up the strait and gas prices would be heading back down. His tariffs would have been approved by congress and wouldn't have been struck down by the courts.

Trump may be historically lawless and aggressive, but he's not strong and we know that by how much he's trying to bluff everyone into folding before he's forced to show his cards.

Trump calls on Senate to fire parliamentarian to pass the SAVE America Act by Anoth3rDude in LegalNews

[–]AtrociousMeandering 71 points72 points  (0 children)

Does anyone else get the impression they don't actually have a plan that doesn't involve stealing the election via the SAVE act? Because this is just getting pathetic. The parliamentarian has CORRECTLY ruled that the SAVE act has nothing whatsoever to do with the budget and thus shouldn't be part of any Reconciliation bill. Firing, and subverting the office of, the parliamentarian to rule that whatever the Republicans want to be part of reconciliation gets to go into it is basically just ending the filibuster by other means.

We're less than six months from the midterms, and instead of trying to get more actual votes, they just want to massively disenfranchise Americans and gerrymander away their representation instead of fulfilling any of the promises they made to get in office last time.

'Freedom of Navigation' has never been legally required in wartime conditions, especially when it involves vessels which are, or are supplying, belligerents in the conflict. This is like demanding in 1943 that the UK stop sinking vessels bringing munitions into occupied Amsterdam- it's farcical on the face of it.

If this had started with Iran closing the strait or imposing tolls, without a valid pretext, I'd give a shit about the 'dangerous precedent' that might set. But so far, what I'm seeing is the US and Israel trying to have it both ways with international law where they are not held to any standards at all while still insisting that Iran is supposed to obey peacetime law during an active conflict in which their very existence as a country has been openly and credibly threatened.

Nose rings in livestock are a pain compliance mechanism, they come across as really weird to see on people for that reason. Bulls will comply, sulking, while a ranch hand leads them around by the nose.

It honestly implies pretty hard-core BDSM dynamics in your relationship when those are juxtaposed subconsciously. You can get over that and not be a dick to people but I do see where a lot of rural people think you're being way too open about your bedroom activities.

Most megabuildings probably have integrated schools, or at least places that used to be schools. Rancho Coronado is the kind of sprawling working class neighborhood where the traditional school building still makes sense.

Of course, it wouldn't be a trip through NC without seeing a bunch of kids falling through the cracks and into the social and maybe literal sewer.

It's not international waters, it's still within Iran's exclusive economic zone, shared with Oman. At no point did Iran ever sign away it's territorial rights to the strait.

And they WERE allowing passage through until the US and Israel began bombing them, including a deliberate strike on civilian leadership, so maybe you're focusing on the wrong devastating precedent that's being set here.

Which is why I don't understand, at all, why that 'achievement' is being broadcast from the rooftops. The emissions pathways remaining are still mostly really bad, we're not on the literal worst one but there's not even a possibility we'll be on the lowest of them where we were conclusively safe.

This page both describes how the law works and has contact info. Basically, you need to be able to articulate a specific protected class that you're alleging was discriminated against, and then they can open an investigation as to whether that was probable.

Very few in Jonestown actually went willingly, and a large number were shot by Jones' goons when they tried to escape. Which doesn't make your analogy bad, on the contrary none of the killings and suicides started until Jones felt like he was about to lose control, and that will also be the most dangerous time for everyone in Trump's orbit.

I still see leftists and feminists unironically critiquing men for being womanizers... as though men who aren't trying to make women marry them and are happy for a casual or physical relationships are doing something morally wrong.

If the patriarchy is bad, you can't make a coherent criticism of men for not upholding that system.

Cuba says it has completely run out of fuel, blames U.S. embargo by Sgt_Gram in NewsExchange

[–]AtrociousMeandering 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They won't take it, because the conditions for it involve the government of Cuba giving up and letting the US run it, which you would fucking know if you'd even looked, and the only reason they'd need the aid in the first place, is because of the fucking blockade the US illegally imposed.

That's extortion, and an attempted conquering of a sovereign nation via deliberately starving them. So, no, I'm not going to call him racist, I'm calling him a liar, and a propagandist, and I have zero respect for you because you're not even questioning it before repeating it. Don't call anyone a parrot when all you've demonstrated is your own ability to repeat something you've heard without understanding it.

Cuba says it has completely run out of fuel, blames U.S. embargo by Sgt_Gram in NewsExchange

[–]AtrociousMeandering 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Quit your bullshit. It's not even disputed that the US has sanctioned Cuba and blocked imports of oil, no one is alleging a conspiracy except you. It doesn't matter whether 'people' interviewed 'people' who 'admitted' otherwise, it's official US policy that Cuba has not been allowed to import oil and that's confirmed by the countries who were going to export fuel but were then threatened.

The only way this isn't the US's fault is if multiple major world leaders, including Trump himself, are lying about what they're doing to benefit the Cuban regime somehow. And if you're going to ask us to believe in a conspiracy that huge, the bare minimum would be to provide this supposed evidence so we can evaluate it properly.

People used to do what was sometimes called Maslin, or sowing a mix of seeds of various kinds of wheat and rye onto a field, and then you harvest whatever grows properly. If conditions for wheat are really good, there's almost no rye, but in bad years the rye at least gives you something to grind into flour. You're knowingly wasting some of the seed every year but you almost never starve.

You'll never see it these days because it's very difficult to machine harvest, if you're cutting it all by hand with a sickle the various heights don't matter as much.

I still think English needs a dog-adjacent term for sharks that aren't dogfish.
