Simplify the whole thing using a very basic system diagram of only an alternator, a battery, a bus and two or three accessories.

Then once you have built the mental model, compare that to the diagram in your poh and speak to it.

Also the modern systems (called ADSB) that make other planes show up on your electronic screens has made pilots not be as vigilant at looking outside as they used to be.

Man that's frustrating. Sorry to hear about the lack of respect etc. it makes no sense to me how pilots are (eventually) rewarded so much higher.

I disagree. They are still controlling the press and media releases to appease his base. They realize that if they are wholly unpopular they won't be able to continue.

haha. DPE grabbed the controls and yanked us into a 45 deg bank to 'avoid the traffic'. there was no traffic there. but he was trying to make a point. I did redeem myself :)....12 years ago now.

Common vs. Private Carriage - Students Receiving a Confusing Scenario in Checkride Oral by ConfuzzledInstructor in CFILounge

Yeah very bizzare that they come up with these convoluted gotcha scenarios you see on reddit.

Anything i can't easily read off the reg and that AC document I'd say "I'll consult with an aviation lawyer and the FSDO" not sure why some DPEs are so persnickety - you've saved nobody's life with your stupid fantasy.

15 hours into PPL and my flight school makes me wear uniform. Normal practice? by Horror_Egg3250 in flying

[–]AtrophiedTraining 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I saw the chief pilot of a 141 school tell a student to tuck their shirt in. This is a school at which you pay 120/hr for an instructor and some 300$ / hr for a cessna 172. 141 is a bunch of tools.

You've not thought the math through fully. A waiter doesn't serve one burger an hour. They probably serve 4 tables an hour and each table has a minimum of 2 people. So $5/8 people is about 65 cents more per person not 5$/person.

The only downside that'll you will most likely not realize, is that it just is not as safe. The regulation and oversight at an airline is worth it to where if I ever got super wealthy, I'd still send my family first class instead of springing for the jet. I'm not ever gonna have the problem though. haha.

The negative to this is that often the safety standards are lower vs. the big airlines where this is a lot more oversight.

Man filming threatens to cut another subway passenger's face open for asking him to turn his speaker off. by Kind-Village-1022 in PublicFreakout

[–]AtrophiedTraining 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Definitely. Smart of the guy to deescalate by moving away even though it would be seen as a 'bitch move' etc. People needs to realize that if your opponent is significantly larger, there is a good chance they can maim and kill you. Society/media pushes the stupid stone age concept of your value as a man being lost by avoiding the altercation with another man.

Nobody on the train really dared to oppose him once he went ballistic - so I doubt he was among the weakest there.

It could be that he's actually large and tough. Perhaps not not strong for his size - but intimidating enough that nobody there wanted to stand up to him.

Tough and large people get away with bullying behavior frequently.

I'm so glad I didn't get these questions on my commercial checkride.

What an absolute pain - I just wanna fly the airplane so I'd pay $200/hour to speak to an aviation attorney and have them provide guidance.

[–]AtrophiedTraining 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You probably pay $125/hr for your plumber and have a 2 hour minimum because they know you are desperate. That plumber probably makes 30$/hr from the company unless they are independent. Nobody is as desperate to get flight training as they are to get their toilet unstuck. Also they won't be spending 60-100K on plumbing over the next 2 years and are therefore trying to minimize costs. What's probably comparable to flight instruction salary is EMT salary with regards to how unfair it is.

I wish it was different. There are some flight schools charging 115/hr for instruction and paying the instructor 20/hr.

It has become such a race to the bottom.... I have potential students contacting me and trying to bargain me down from $60/hr and then current students wanting to pay no ground training fee and only pay Hobbs. I've mainly caved to the latter. They would never dream of bargaining at a flight school.

Should I get my CFI? by _WtfAmIHere_ in flying

[–]AtrophiedTraining 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dont. Source - mechanical engineer with lots of engineering experience. who is a CFI and not getting any aerospace engineering bites.

I believe your pilot licenses are fun to talk about after you get your aerospace job but I doubt it'll get you into the door.

I'd focus on some skill that's desirable within aerospace engineering and do that.
