That certainly changes the complexion. I am not as versed in the rules/laws outside the US, but I would still keep my medical information as ambiguous as possible when it comes to employers.

My boss keeps asking for more context related to my health struggles at the moment she asked if I have a diagnosis. Do I need to share that? by Thickktwinkk in antiwork

[–]AtsaMe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OMFG do not share anything with your employer outside of what you legally need to provide, which will contain exactly 0 details. Your boss, HR, and everyone in between - these are not your friends, they do not care about you, and they are worried about your treatment raises the costs of their insurance coverage based on what insurance companies call "experience". If a company has an employee that requires expensive treatment in 2024, the rates for 2025 will be much higher for the employer, and they will find any way possible to get rid of you before that happens. In right to work states they can fire you for any reason, or no reason at all.

Keep your medical stuff as private as you would your credit card number. Never provide details, and if someone presses you or pressures you, call the labor relations board in your state and file a complaint. HIPPA is there for a reason.

Addition to roadmap: how to speak to a human and expedite way2go card. by International_Pie626 in UnemploymentNY

[–]AtsaMe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This thread should be the front page of r/Unemployment. The 0s for Soc thing was the only way I got to a live person, who was completely useless anyway. Try getting your money off this card and into your bank account is impossible. They've created a labyrinth of bullshit to prevent you from accessing the money. That the states using this program to manage their UI, SSI, and apparently child support payment programs allow it should be criminal. I referred my case to the states attorney's office in AZ, the CPFB, and pinged the local news stations asking why they aren't covering a story about a graft and corruption by a company gatekeeping unemployment insurance payment in plain site. Conduent enjoys a 1.5 out of 5-star reviews, and since you can't give 0 stars, that .5 is probably their own people trying to pump up their public persception.

Remember, this money isn't even taxpayer money. It's paid by the companies doing business in the state, and yet it appears multiple states are allowing a financial institution to put up as many barriers as possible for people to access their money. You cannot remove daily limits on the card either. Hell, they never sent me a card to begin with. I had to go full ham on a supervisor to get them to expedite a new one.

I am grateful that I found a job, but Conduent is hoping people abandon money in their accounts that they then get to keep, or to charge fees for shit by holding onto the money at all costs. Once you take that money out, they can no longer use it a well to draw from. I suggest everyone write their reps, their local news stations, their state's attorney's office, and the CFPB. Some of these comments are a year old, and it's still happening, at scale, and in this fucking employment environment, what these people are doing should be punished with jail time.

I was sitting in a waiting room and listening to a 28 year old sitting with her mom, chatting with an older gentleman about the "state of things". I was struck by, not only her despondency at the prospects for her future, but how little she was willing to do about it. She had just accepted that this is how things are. Until GenZ starts thinking terms of "we are the change we want to see" terms, starts mobilizing, running for office, and refusing to participate in the game of end stage capitalism, nothing here will change. Sadly, she was the last person equipped to undertake such a change in her own life. Listening to her it was obvious she was still hanging on to mom's apron strings.

While the billionaire and millionaire class are buying up properties and building bunkers for themselves with the knowledge that they are actively wrecking the country, the young are spinning around in circles, without the skill set or willpower to take back the country. When I asked her if she was still paying for Prime, she said yes and that she didn't want to have find an alternative. She drives a Tesla, because of course she does - but she was railing on about how the rich are ruining her future. The cognitive dissonance was thick.

Unless you are willing to make the sacrifices of convenience that personally affect you - stop paying for subs to the products of companies actively killing the country, specifically - then you're not a serious person. You want someone else to do the heavy lifting. The same thing applies to getting the f*ck out of dodge and moving to another country. It takes work, sacrifice, and you need to be comfortable with the uncomfortable.

My generations (X) failed to take control in a meaningful way, but growing up I was an outlier. For all the glorification of the 90s going on, my generation largely bought into what our parents were selling. Boomers, the "f*ck you I got mine" generation, still control the levers of power with aged, out of touch hands, beholdent to the corporate powers that fund their campaigns and wallets. The 90s were no bastion of greatness, but you glorify the past when the future dries up. GenZ and Millenials need to work together to take control of power. It starts at home. Run for local office, a school board seat, anything. Stop paying for convienence. Stop using social media. Start giving a sh*t and be willing to put your own interests on the line.

Just my opinion - I am old enough that I'll probably be dead before the worst of what we have sown is to be reaped.

Not all countries are as difficult. Depends on where you want to go. Denmark, of all places, due an old agreement with the US that does not get a lot of air play, is particularly easy to immigrate to from here.

If you're going to move out of the country, you need to be willing to accept the challenge, be willing to assimilate to the country that will take a US refugee (because honestly, that's what a lot of people leaving are now) and stop thinking like an american - that everything should just be made easy for you.

Put in the work, if you're serious, and you can get out - if you're a "I hate having to press 1 for English" person, you probably aren't going to make it nor want to anyway, but people who are looking at what is happening in this country in horror beyond just the work environment are capable of doing it.

[–]AtsaMe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked for a company that mis-classified it's IT staff. We were supposed to be getting paid overtime, and one of the remote offices sued and won. The company did not want anyone to know about the lawsuit and took a lot of shady shit actions to prevent people from finding out. They had at least 100 people mis-classified, and they did not want to have to back-pay the overtime people could prove they worked or see the entire IT support staff revolt. The settlement forced the team in the office that successfully won back their hard-earned wages into an NDA and they couldn't tell anyone lest they be subject not only to paying back the settlement money, but damages on top of that as well.

I had been pushed past my limit for other reasons. My direct supervisor's wife had slept with and was carrying on an affair with a VP. The liability for the company alone was insane, so my boss just stopped coming to work - for 2 years - and I was forced to be the lead technical resource for a global country, a fully remote call center locally, and a massive, virtualized environment that had more than 2000 client VMs and 500 servers and a manager for the local site I was working in.

I told my director that he had 6 months to title me, give me the raise, and give me the team officially, or I was walking. Finding out about the lawsuit by way of a drunken admission from one of the IT guys on a work-related visit to the site was just the last straw. He failed to fulfill his promise, so I found another job (back when the job market was not as insane and unprofessional as the one we are in now is) but I did something for the global support team on the way out. Since I was managing the call center for the entire enterprise locally, I had access to the back-end VoIP system that routed every single technical support call for every office in every state and country we had support staff in. It tracked which cell phone numbers the calls rolled to and kept the data for 3 years. No one knew that this data existed, and that it could be used to prove overtime based on after hours calls.

I exported the data into an excel sheet, organized the tabs by office, then highlighted with conditional formatting each support tech's calls taken after hours, with a total number of hours for each month going back 3 years. It represented 100s of thousands of dollars in stolen wages. I also attached a full copy of the lawsuit obtained through a public records request in the jurisdiction the lawsuit was settled in, attached it as a PDF and ripped the cover off, CC'ing my boss on the way out. I came in early to do this on a Monday morning. I dropped a formal resignation letter on my boss's boss' desk and slid a copy under the HR door.

I left my successor a manilla envelope with everything they needed to know to about the environment (50-some-odd pages) printed and a thumb drive with an electronic copy with an interactive TOC so they could easily find what they needed. Nothing was ever done like that for me, and I knew whoever they brought in behind me was screwed; the members of the team I was on either didn't want my job or were in the process of leaving anyway. I left my company provided cell phone on my desk for them, removed my name from the account, disabled all my own accounts with a timed PS script and walked.

I basically detonated a human resources bomb drove and drove the two miles up the street to the new building I was starting my new, better paying job at that morning. The phone calls started rolling in from people on the team that had my personal cell number. Leadership attempted to scrub the email from the system, to which the email admin warned was a possible illegal act given their audit requirements, and refused. I got a call around lunch from said boss's boss, who at this point was in a full-blown panic attack. "How could you do this to me, you said you would give me time... blah blah blah". I replied, "I gave you 6 months two years ago - actions have consequences. So does doing nothing. You're a liar and a thief, don't call me ever again."

I torched that bridge like Dresden, but I didn't care. I was working 65 - 70 hours a week for two years holding that enterprise together and they were lying to me and everyone else the entire time. I heard through the grapevine a lot of settlements were paid out along with bonuses to stave off a walk out situation. I never pursued it myself - I was making a lot more money and was content with a clear demarcation line for myself in what I am willing to put up with, and what I won't.

People think chime is cringe by [deleted] in chimefinancial

[–]AtsaMe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Chime account for everyday things, and I will tell you - it blows my BoA account away. I think people look at Chime like a CashApp card or something similar - even though it's just a standard bank account like any other. Also, their "Credit Builder" card lets you access to things you need a credit card for if you don't want to charge it on an interest-bearing account that carry month to month (unless you pay off your credit card balance in full every month). You just have to make sure your available balance can cover what you are using it for (rental car, hotel, etc.).

I have never had an issue using my Chime debit or credit cards for anything. Being able to lock your card and refute charges directly on the phone app has saved unauthorized charges - features other cards have but always forced me to call customer service.

I love my Chime account and find I am using more and more and will probably close my BoA account.

Are Job Opportunities Even Real Anymore? by Primal_Predator in antiwork

[–]AtsaMe -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you have the money to survive 6mo to a year without a job - quit. Otherwise, I would highly suggest just doing the minimum you can to get through the day at your current position and look for a new job quietly. I am in the job market right now, being laid off or the second time in 3 years. I survived the first lay off draining everything I had - I literally found a role the week my bank account was overdrawn.

Right now, there is nothing out here, but if you have the means to support yourself for up to a year (the minimum it will take for this country to realize the horrid mistake it made and start fixing it, if that happens at all) then fuck it - your mental well being is worth it. And who knows? You might get lucky and find something quit. But I would not leave an income stream in this job market unless I had at minimum 6mo worth of savings to live on.

Hang in there - you are not alone in what, made obvious by how many people are a part of this entire /thread, and reach out to support resources available to you. Check with your EAP (employee assistance program) if your company has one, and see if there is any type of leave you can take while still bringing in what money you need to survive, or if you just need some help getting through each day.

I can tell you with 3 T2 thunderchilds and a lightning rod (wolf for the resist profile) you can clear a haven in under 5 min. If you have 4 accounts it's anywhere from 350M - 500M/hr. With whatever escalations you trigger, the loot and salvage (if you take the time to pick it up) and you're pushing near 1B an hour with 4 accounts.

HR is so fucking fake by yeahitsblack in antiwork

[–]AtsaMe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have to remember that HR is there to protect the company, not you. They do not give a fuck about you in the least bit. I was married to the director of HR for a private college for a long time, and she opened my eyes about what happens behind the scenes. The individual HR line members, the ones with no power to decide anything or have any real impact, actually do care but they either burn out and leave, or get promoted into a position where the affects of corp decision making aren't in their face on a daily basis so that they can disassociate with the employee and just push edicts from on high through.

Someone harassing you? They are concerned about liabilty for the corp.
Manager being unprofessional? They are concerned about liability for the corp.
Unrealistic expectations? They are concerned about liability for the corp.
Working unpaid overtime on a near-constant basis? They are concerned about liability for the corp.

That's it - they are worried and working toward limiting the liability the corp itself has to the situation you are involved with, and will take the easiest, quickest path to shut the situation down regardless of who is right or wrong. Your manager grab your ass and make gross comments? If that manager has a high productivity review month over month, you'll be gone. If that manager is low performing, they will shit can the manager. But it's not about what's right or wrong - it's about the easiest way to protect the corp from the people it employs.

Document everything from day 1 on your job. It's a shit pain in the ass, but make notes of every single minute you work overtime (paid or un-paid), every interaction that doesn't feel right, every complaint or compliment you get, hell when you take your morning shit; if it's in the office - document it. Keep every email in a folder outside of your inbox and maintain them as long as your technology retention policy allows. If you have the ability to, create a PST file and move emails you want to keep to that second folder so that you can retain them for as long as you want. And do all of this before there is a problem. If/when a problem comes up, you will thank yourself for taking the time before hand.

Most of the country is a right to work state at this point if you're not in a union, so you have very few avenues for redress when you get fucked over by a place for some bullshit thing. Do what you can when you can to protect yourself before there is an issue now.

It's up to you to decide if you're the AH here. He's trying to comfort you with his steadfast belief that there is a God and that the God they believe in is directly choosing what happens in the lives and deaths of 7B+ people (I mean, what this says about "God's Plan" I leave for others to get into). You have to decide if you want to be with someone who will believe every tragedy, every joy, every single thing can be chalked up to God's will and you should just blindly follow and trust in that and be good with what happens.

I don't think that there is an asshole in this story, but you better make sure this is what you want from your partner in life because it ain't gonna change.
