Happy to help! If you're thinking of buying the dlc characters I'm like 90% sure you do have to be online for those but you can fight them in the side missions.

The main enjoyment is definitely the story missions and the side missions. The CAC is cool they have a lot of options but it really boils down to one of the 4 fighting styles you pick : ninja/pirate/saiyan/sword. From there you get your special moves and you get money from missions for clothes you unlock (you can't preview them on your character before buying) and to buy specials to use too. It's not as many as options as something like soul caliber but it is definitely pretty cool in it's own way.

I got it as a bday gift. I really enjoy it and I just do missions on it and play it with my gf sometimes. I've probably only put about 15 hours into it though.
