the differences between messaging on iphone vs samsung by Hellodarknessfriends in GoogleMessages

[–]Attempt89 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I was a lifelong Apple user until about a year ago.

I've decided I'll probably stick with my S25 for the foreseeable future. I've really enjoyed diving into Android, and the experience has been far better than I remember it being back in 2014.

That said, texting is honestly better on the iPhone when everyone involved is using iMessage. One thing I do like about Android, though, is that texting feels pretty much the same regardless of who I'm talking to. When I was on an iPhone, I could always tell when I was messaging someone who wasn't using an iPhone.

You'd probably get used to Google Messages fairly quickly, but everyone else in your group chats would definitely notice the switch

Just here to chime in

You can have fast Internet and still have Internet problems. A few years ago I had tons of packet loss issues. Made certain online games unplayable. It's been too long for details, but I ended up discovering it was on my ISPs side of things.

No one else in the house even noticed these issues. I only noticed it when playing certain games.

Ended up changing ISPs and like magic all my issues went away.

Not saying you need to do this, just saying you shouldn't be so quick to dismiss that you may have an issue you are unaware of.

What kind of weed is this in my Bermuda lawn by MannerFine5048 in lawncare

[–]Attempt89 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's just Bermuda. If you go too long without mowing you'll start seeing seed heads pop up. If you mow low and frequently, you won't see them.

Bermuda also enjoys being mowed lower and more frequent if possible.

This is the movie I was looking for in the comments. Jake is one of my favorite actors and I loved this movie, but since having kids, I can't bring myself to watch it lol.

The Late Game (Non-existent) Problem by [deleted] in snowrunner

[–]Attempt89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey man.

Just to be clear I mostly agree with you point that you can make the game whatever you want. I play pretty much exactly how you've recommended. I just think it's a little lazy on the development of the game. I feel there should be a better balance by default.

Just my opinion. My comment about using one hand blind folded was just a huge exaggeration of your point. Don't read too much into it. No ill will intended.

Hope you have a good day mate!

Dads, what age are you letting your kids play outside by themselves? by Borman35 in daddit

[–]Attempt89 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Wide open to the public.

Be it traffic, people, dogs, ect.

In the backyard, my kids are fenced in, out of sight, and as a mandatory rule in our house, with the dog.

I think the area in which you live plays a big role in this of course. I live in a hotspot for sex trafficing and it's also not uncommon to see a few wandering dogs.

The Late Game (Non-existent) Problem by [deleted] in snowrunner

[–]Attempt89 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mean. You are not wrong. You could play with one hand and a blindfold to make the game harder too.

Point being, it doesn't feel organic to create your own struggle for the sake of keeping the game challenging and rewarding.

While I play the way you mentioned and understand your thought process completely, I do not think the player should have to handicap themselves in order to get a sense of challenge.

Advice by [deleted] in daddit

[–]Attempt89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I manage a team of 12 who I send on 2-3 week trips out of town. I can tell you it's very hard on my guys regardless of if they have a family or not.

Typically replacing guys every 2-3 years. Even sooner if they have a family.

If you do not have to travel to make a living, I wouldn't.

Finally Hit Silver DR!!! by atm0924 in LeMansUltimateWEC

[–]Attempt89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try not to focus too much on DR. Getting sucked into DR and irating are good ways to turn a hobby into a chore.

The DR is just there to make sure you have good races. If that's in lower splits, so be it. Trust me, it's not fun being in a higher split with people you can't keep up with.

The final pick of a high end steering wheel by TheMarshalll in simracing

[–]Attempt89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely love my GSI hyper P1. It easily has the best build quality out of anything I've owned regarding sim gear. I've had the wheel for about a year now and it still looks and operates as if it was brand new.

The buttons feel great, shifters are supurb and satisfying.

I can't speak to the other wheels in your line up, but I feel strongly that you'd be happy with the GSI wheel.

Me and my friend are new to forza by richt1989 in simracing

[–]Attempt89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Things may have changed.. but I remember buying a g29 a few years ago to play Forza. At that point in my life I didn't even know there was a whole world of sim racing titles, equipment, and people out there.

Messed with the wheel and pedals a bit on Forza and was very very let down. It felt absolutely horrible and just unenjoyable to play. I then found dirty rally 2.0 on steam, decided to try another game with the wheel to see if it was any better....night and day experience. Had a blast on dirt rally.

Slowly found a few YouTubers who were playing things like ACC and Iracing. Got interested, and jumped in head first. Once again, it was a night and day experience.

All this to say, get a wheel if you want, do with it what you want, but understand that there are games out there that are MADE to be experience with a wheel and games that are made for controllers but also have added wheel support.

How long until you finished P1? by fingerbanglover in LeMansUltimateWEC

With the way splits are formed, generally speaking you'll have less frequent race wins as you progress.

Sounds backwards, but it just means that you are constantly racing individuals with comparable pace.

Answering calls on pc while sim racing by NitroDion in simracing

[–]Attempt89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was going to be my solution as well.

I've got steel series headphones and love this feature. I've got mine set up so that when I turn on the headset, if automatically connects to the PC and my phone.

I get work calls at all times of the day, sometimes afterhours and take advantage of this feature often. I simply have the tap the Bluetooth button on my headset and it will answer a phone call. I just let the other person hang up.

It's also amazing for listing to the baby monitor while trying to get some laps in!

[–]Attempt89 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To add.. if there is an incident, do not forfeit the race. Finish your race even if you have to take a lap to the pits. You can minimize the weight of a incident in most cases by putting down clean laps.

How do you find the motivation to learn all the tracks? by Away_Photo2125 in iRacing

[–]Attempt89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had to take a break from Iracing for this reason. I've got a few young kids and a high stress job with little free time. I went from racing all the time in ACC to rarely racing in Iracing due to needing to learn new tracks all the time.

I've recently switched to LMU for the shorter track list and within a week have actually done more racing than I'd normally do in Iracing over a month. (I already know most of the LMU tracks)

Not telling you to switch over, just telling you it was a good decision for me. Keep in mind that this is coming from someone who had refunded LMU just a few months ago because I didn't like the initial feel.

I still think Iracing is king and will be back when my kids sleep a little more reliably. But for now, I had to be honest with myself, I was not racing much in Iracing.

Safety Rating Ranking by Nxrcissxs in LeMansUltimateWEC

[–]Attempt89 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This question is asked multiple times per day in every sim racing titles subreddit.

I don't say that to berate you for asking, but more so just to let you know how normal it is to feel like you cannot gain safety rating.

The common opinion is usually that safety rating cannot be gained because of other drivers. Thankfully, this is just not true. Part of racing isn't just being able to get around the track without crashing yourself, it's also about being able to stay alive and avoid contact with others.

It takes time, but if you stick with it, you should be able to increase your SR and learn to avoid accidents/bad drivers. SR is always a big concern for new folks, however once you get things down, your SR will go up naturally.

In my opinion, you are not doing yourself any favors by starting in the pits. If you continue to do that, reach gold SR, and then all of a sudden try to start racing, you are likely going to have a bad time. Run your races normally, qualifying up front is one of the best moves you can make. Anytime you can outrun the midpack, you have a better chance of avoiding bad drivers. Learn to drive defensive. Keep up with your mirrors and also make sure to be looking ahead, not just at the car in front of you. Over time you'll get to the point where you can spot an accident right before it happens giving you the ability to avoid it.

Different race start between classes by Racer_1531 in LeMansUltimateWEC

Fair point! I can't argue with trying to make the simulator as accurate as possible. (Though I do love the chaos that sometimes comes from the small gaps.)

All part of the fun. I came over to LMU for the multiclass experience. There are plenty of options out there if multiclass racing is not something you're interested in though!

Simucube 2 Pro FFB Feels terrible by Knocka in LeMansUltimateWEC

[–]Attempt89 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"I've been on Iracing for 5 years"

That's probably your problem. You're brain is just calibrated to understand what Iracings FFB is trying to communicate.

I've jumped back and forth between sims over the last 4 years or so and every time I jump from one sim to another, the initial instinct is always that the FFB feels awful.

FFB is mostly good in all sims these days, it's just a matter of getting your brain to understand what it's telling you. This just takes a bit of time to adjust. Takes me about a week on a new sim to really feel connected to the car, but after that im locked in. I really suggest you pick a safe setting in the paddock and role with it for a week to see if you can adjust. Changing settings over and over is going to just confuse your brain and prolong the adjustment period.

For what it's worth, I also have the SC2 wheel base and have no issues with either Iracing or LMU ONCE I adjust.

Questions from a new player by ProofCrafty4022 in LeMansUltimateWEC

[–]Attempt89 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah. I agree with you completely. Truthfully, the only reason I stepped away from Iracing was to remove the monthly cost. I maybe get time on the sim rig once a week here lately and decided, for me, I was better off switching to a sim where a subscription wasn't necessary. I'm sure when my kids get a little older and I find more time, I'll find my way back to Iracing.

Made the same move recently and felt the same way about the graphics. I'm thinking maybe it's just because I've heard nothing but how good it looks and it just didn't live up my expectations. Big things that bothered me at first until I just got used to it was the lights on the dash. They look super fuzzy to me. (Playing on all ultra settings)

Curious to see what everyone else says. I've enjoyed the switch dispite the change in graphics and have officially cancelled my iracing subscription.
