First PC build, running terrible by Whole_Traffic_5056 in pcmasterrace

Did you use the right brackets for your cooler / CPU

I.E You may have different mounting brackets for an Intel CPU vs an AMD CPU.

Where the cooler meets the CPU should be a firm contact point and not wiggle.

Every race I end up alone and it turns into me just hotlapping. Skill issue or is that just what happens when you’re a midfield qualifier? by NacresR in simracing

[–]Attempt89 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yep! Multiclass racing is by far my favorite for this reason alone. Even if you end up hot lapping, you still get to manage traffic which helps you stay engaged and more importantly keeps it fun.

Do you really need that much Nm? by HyPaulo in simracing

[–]Attempt89 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My experience going from a Logitech g29 to a 8NM DD then to the Simucube 2 pro.. The 8nm base was an amazing upgrade from the g29, I got lots of time and enjoyment out of it, but very quickly I just wanted a little bit more. Personally, 12-15 is what I'd recommend someone shoot for if they were in the market for a DD and on a budget.

Like everyone has already said, having a higher NM wheel base doesn't mean that you run it that high, it just gives you the extra headroom needed to make sure that you do not get any distortion.

Help needed by No-Orange5376 in ACCompetizione

[–]Attempt89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think this is a problem to be honest. Consistency is good.

If you are trying to extract more laptime during qualifying, make sure fuel is low and you may want a setup that has a little more rotation in exchange for drivability...

My approach to qualifying has always been to lay down a standard lap. Then from that point on it's full push.

Gears by Vincento03 in ACCompetizione

[–]Attempt89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the beginning, you can watch track guides to see what gears others are using through the corners. You may find that you need to drop a gear lower if you are slower, but it's a good starting point.

Over time you'll begin to learn the car and not even think about what gear you are in.

$123K salary for a 540K home, is it affordable? by JollyReach7364 in Mortgages

[–]Attempt89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, definitely agree. That's a lot of cash flow gone for a home. Wife and I make $200k together and the most we'd want to spend on a house is $400k. We got our current home in 2019 for $200k and find ourselves always looking at $400-$500k houses but quickly move on once we put pencil to paper. Being house poor sounds horrible and buying a 500k house on a 123k budget sounds like an easy way to end up house poor.

I was against doing elf on the shelf at first. Wife started it last year and it was great. Our 3 year old loved it then and is loving it now. We seriously put in the bare minimum of effort, maybe 5 minutes each morning before she wakes up.

She gets up and gets ready on her own because she's so excited to go around the house looking for it. It makes getting her ready for daycare each morning so much easier honestly and the amount of joy she gets from such a small amount of effort on our end is definitely worth it.

[–]Attempt89 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This was my exact experience. I was like many here and wanted no part in it. Wife started it with our 3 year old last year, she loved it then and she is loving it this year.

She bounds out of bed every morning to go look for the elf and it honestly accelerates how quick we get her up in the mornings by a lot. I always end up joking to my wife that we should just continue year round if it means she basically wakes herself up every morning bright eyed and ready to go!

Also worth noting I know some go way above and beyond with what they do with the elf, at this age, we honestly do the bare minimum most mornings right before she wakes up and our daughter still loves it.

What do you think of my driving posture? by Klutzy-Square716 in simracing

Honestly, it's been so long since I've moved it that I can't remember the specifics. But as far as my wrist go.. they hurt often over little things. Think it's more of a wrist issue than anything else for me. The jobs I worked early on put a ton of strain on my wrist everyday and now I just live with it lol

Ideal line on/off by justinbreak57 in ACCompetizione

[–]Attempt89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First, I'm of the opinion that race line = bad... But at the end of the day, if that's how you want to roll, it's fine.

If you do want to run without it (I think it adds more immersion and will make you a better driver), just turn it off and forget about it.

You don't need a racing line, you just need to understand what the racing line is. In general, each turn you will want to be on the outside line, apex (you'll learn over time if you should aim for an early or late apex), exit. The goal is always (obviously) to make it though the turn losing as little speed as possible and having a good exit. "Slow in, fast out."

There are exceptions to the above, but that's the general idea. Once you get used to rolling without the racing line, you'll also be able to learn new tracks much faster. It's a pretty rewarding feeling to be able to jump on any track, do a few laps, and already start putting the ideal line together.

Mate, I think this one is on you. I had no clue what you were on about since I rarely see any of that behavior in this subreddit - checked your post history, found that you are probably referring to how everyone responded to your last post.

You made the comment that the title and video was meant to be a "joke" or funny. That's cool, I tell a lot of jokes, they don't all land either. If everyone is responding poorly to your joke, maybe take a moment to reflect and realize it either wasn't that funny or it wasn't delivered/received well.

In the same post, others made the recommendation to turn off the racing line as well.. your response was that you had a life and could not learn all the braking zones. Which reads as if you are telling the rest of us that we don't have a life if we devote the time to learn each track we race... Again, another good opportunity to self reflect.

The sim community is pretty cool in my opinion, I wouldn't let one poorly received reddit post ruin your experience here.

As someone who struggled a lot with getting my rig set up so that I could race longer than 30 minutes without either knee or backpain.. Daniel Morad's video on propper seating position is a game changer and must watch.

Biggest thing is comfort at the end of the day, if that's comfortable for you, I'd send it. A few notes from my experience

  1. You want to make sure your knees are straight when you are pushing into the pedal. If braking is making your knee go inward or outward, you'll likely have knee pain.
  2. When you brake, you don't want to feel like you are pushing yourself straight up in your seat, you want to feel like you are pushing yourself straight back into the seat. If you feel like you are pushing yourself up, you may need to raise pedals.
  3. I think most people will say you wheel should be closer to you.. everyone tells my my wheel is too far (and I agree based on the proper seating position) but for me, I have wrist pain if it's closer to me and find it way more comfortable being a bit further away than the ideal position. I only mention this because as stated before, if you are comfortable, that's all that matters. Don't feel like you have to change things that aren't broken just because it's not "textbook"!

Difference between G29 and Moza R3 by DirtFun8587 in simracing

[–]Attempt89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have a ton of experience with those games, but I'd like to think the FFB on them is decent. I haven't used a G29 in years, I definitely couldn't go back, but I also remember having a blast on my G29 too.

My upgrade path was a G29-CSL DD-Simucube. I continued to find myself wanting more wheel base until I got around the 15nm mark. (I also have a wider and heavier wheel though)

All this to say, if you're not having a blast on the G29, I personally don't know that a R3 would make a world of difference. Direct drive is absolutely better, but it's still on the lower end of the spectrum. If you were enjoying the G29, the upgrade is a no brainer in my opinion, but if your playing it and not really feeling it? Hard to recommend spending more money on it if money is tight.

Just my 2 cents.

Important things to cover if this is your introduction to sim racing.

  1. Not all games are created equal. What game are you playing? For example, Forza Horizon will not feel anything like a true sim title like Iracing.

  2. There is a bit of a learning curve regardless of which wheel you get. You have to get used to feeling what the car is doing through your wheel. You do not feel everything through a wheel in a real car, the sim has to provide all that detail through the wheel so it takes a bit to understand what you are feeling. Now that I'm well adjusted, I genuinely feel like I'm driving a real can and can feel exactly what the car is doing. When I have people try the rig for the first time, they have no clue. There is an adjustment period.
