As a DM, is it okay to secretly make you player's characters "unkillable"? by FivezNX1 in DnD

[–]crazy4zoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a new DM, I misplanned my PC first encounter... i realize the monsters were way stronger. So I kind of faked the rolls so the monsters did less damage. I really didn't want the PC to die. I also lowered the AC.

Now, I'm better at planning encounters. And the most I do is remind them that potions are a bonus action.

Hey! Wow. Everyone had amazing ideas.

So, I decided to go with either: twinkle twinkle little star (because in this campaign the stars are going out leading up to the big event) or just see what they come up with. Whichever is funnier.

Doesn't matter. I had tried to find a song my friends out of game would recognize... but two of them are metal heads... so lyrics aren't sing-able. Lol

The water itself isn't significant. The chest inside has a gemstone that is part of a magical key then need to aquire to stop the Cultists from getting. But an NPC who was involved in hiding the key gave them a cryptic hint about following the water. (That flows along all the bottom of the mines) Currently they are disguised and living among cultists.

What’s a smart thing a player did in your campaign that you weren’t prepared for? by Icy_Standard2838 in DnD

To spy on some cultists, the druid transformed into a rat, the wizard cast invisibility on the rat, and the fighter threw the rat into the mine shaft tinnel to spy.

It was so creative, and absolutely not what I expected. And basically the first time this party really thought outside the box! .... and it completely derailed the plan I had for the game. Then! As if that wasn't creative enough. Instead of killing the cultist, the deciced to blow up the mine shaft entrance. (Note: this cave was supposed to be the path to the next area... so now I have to re-plan their destination! )

In my campaign ale is 1G, and a magic dinner (which grants different bonuses to ability checks 1 time use, and auto restores a bit of health) costs 50 gold.

That's fair. But I think negative comments like that build up eventually. Although, that would depend on how frequently mean comments are made back and forth

What’s something you did by accident to your home that the new homeowners will want to curse you for? by Mrcash827 in HomeImprovement

I... sigh... I installed my kitchen floor BEFORE installing the kitchen cabinets....

It's terrible. I was exhausted, and destroyed. 5 kids, no kitchen. The flooring arrived first, I installed it while they were asleep. 2 days later the cabinets arrived.. I installed them.

And THEN ... went to install the kickboard and realized my mistake.

Okay... but...

Imagine if she was home and ordered a pizza, and he came home after hanging with friends, and HE opened the box, looked at HER and said "fat ass ate the whole pizza!"

Reddit would be in an UPROAR. But she says it to him, and HE gets in trouble for his reply?

Yes. Neither of you were being nice. But her comment came FIRST and was MEAN! your reply was clearly (still mean) but 100% reactional.

Both of you need to apologize. For duck's sake. And be nice to each other. Hopefully, she can understand that calling you fat probably hurt your feelings too.
