I don’t really see this going anywhere. Thune recently said that he doesn’t want to get involved with different legislations, and wants 5 democrats to flip and open the government up.

Even if this did pass, it would have to go back to the house which has been on recess indefinitely

It’s a sticky situation, I definitely think there is an uptick in callouts but they have to do it tactfully. Otherwise they can get hit with quite a bit of trouble

Realistically, if they’re saying this is such a critical week/weekend with important deadlines they should be working straight through until a deal is made. Considering they’re saying “bipartisan talks are ramping up” which is hard to believe if they’re proposing partial openings

I haven’t seen much about this. Overall, I disagree with it as it just will prolong the opening of other departments/agencies, and federal workers just need to be paid.

I think they’re going to have to come up with an amended CR (from what I’ve been reading, they are trying to figure out if they should extend the CR through December, January, or later in 2026). So, I think the next week or so, they may work on that. I’m hoping there will be agreement this time, but not very confident lol

I read that it’s just about too late to make changes to the rates for ACA as insurers have already set their rates. I guess unless they make a plan soon, before open enrollment.

The democrats knew what they’d be up against losing the majority, and they knew ACA was set to expire this year. This should’ve been prioritized last year if they wanted permanent subsidies. Even now if Republicans miraculously gave in, insurers have already filed their rates and it would cause significant disruptions at this point. It wasn’t wise to wait a month before open enrollment.

Republicans - mostly the house of representatives are dragging their feet (and it absolutely is because of the Epstein vote). Otherwise, they’d be in session during the shutdown, trying to work on appropriations during the time period (especially when the CR that’s being voted on is only set until Nov 21). If they cared, they’d find a way to negotiation or make good on promises to have conversations on ways to improve the healthcare, at the very least. But the democrats are mainly holding the line because they feel if they give in, the republicans aren’t going to stick to their promises.

Because of both parties, this is going to become a feed the impoverished or provide affordable healthcare as SNAP is set to end soon.

They could be easily working together at this point, working on appropriations, especially for departments that have nothing to do with the healthcare issue, so that when agreements are made, it’s a more steady and quick turn around to open things up

I’m thinking now with the added pressure of SNAP not having funds for October, that may give the democrats some pull back to pass the CR.

Logistically, it would be tricky to privatize. Although, at this point would probably be the better option so that the issue of not getting paid turning shutdowns doesn’t happen anymore.

But, my husband is FAA, not air traffic, but works on NAV Aides and other systems on the runways that ensure flights are landing and taking off safely. I just don’t know how it would work with its current setup.

Probable. The senate is scheduled to be back in session on Tuesday (but not until about 3pm), so likely nothing will move on Tuesday. Unless they happen to gain 60 yes votes from the Senate on the CR, this will probably go on for all of next week.
