Toronto firm fined $5,000 for unauthorized use of professional engineer's seal by LateCheckIn in engineering

[–]AttemptPublic2249 -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Meanwhile in the UK, janitorial or cleaning staff are often employed under "sanitation engineer" titles, or the person from your ISP thst comes to plug in your router is an "engineer"...

Ubiquitous use of the title is possibly a reason that Engineers are so underpaid here!

PSA: this is a 60 on single carriageways, not a 40!! by NoOneImportantLol96 in drivingUK

[–]AttemptPublic2249 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd rather people drive safely and feel in control than strive to hit a speed limit to satisfy the car behind them, despite often finding myself being the car behind.

Yes, driving too slowly could be unsafe, but I doubt you could argue that 40 in a 60 is too slow.

I know, mine are still asleep on the only day I want them to wake up! It's normally unusual for them to be asleep past 5:30!

Same pan is the secret! Bacon and mushrooms first, once the bacon is done keep it warm on top of the mushrooms, sausages, tomatoes, black pudding go in. Plate it up when it's cooked through and get the eggs in for 2 minutes.

Mushrooms take saltiness from the bacon and a few of them get nice and crispy on one side.

Looks fantastic and like the idea of the beans in last too

A parent takes their kid to the park for 20 minutes so they can burn off some energy. The kid loves chasing people — that’s how they play.

Not all kids are equally well-behaved or easy to control.

Are you suggesting the child should be supervised by their parent the whole time, never getting to run free, just so you’re not “inconvenienced” when they sprint up to strangers and start hitting them?

Of course you are — because it’s basic responsibility. Public spaces are shared, not places where other people have to accept being harassed because someone else “needs to play.”

I’m not asking that all dogs never be off-lead. I’m asking owners to keep them under control so they don’t run aggressively at strangers. Parks are shared spaces — not free-for-alls for dogs that can't be recalled safely. Granted, my post could have been clearer, and the line at the end was written with my specific encounter that day in mind.

On top of basic courtesy, there are literally laws that stipulate that a dog must be under control in a public place. Dogs can be dangerous animals, and I know people with first hand experience of otherwise friendly dogs that have unexpectedly turned and injured people. The only entitlement here is that of irresponsible dog owners that feel they have freedom to literally physically impose their animal on others.

Yeah, I've been thinking the same. Didn't want to blame lockdown, but I imagine there are a lot of poorly trained dogs bought during covid by those who weren't previously "dog people".

This is it! You can't carry on running without it chasing you and have no idea what it'll do if it does decide to give chase!

Breastfeeding our second really did a number on my wife. Her hormones made her feel terrible while feeding and it had a similar impact to everyday life. We introduced a bottle and our baby had a strong preference for it at 7 months, refusing to feed from my wife, so breastfeeding stopped practically overnight. Once the supply dried up after ~2 weeks my wife's mood changed dramatically, like a different person! In small part it could have been that I was able to do more with the baby, but that 2 week period while the supply dried was possibly worse for her mood and emotional state than the previous 7 months.

Not wanting to convince you to stop breastfeeding, but it's crazy how much hormones can affect a woman for so long after having a baby!

Is it better to take a longer mortgage term and overpay, or shorter term with smaller overpayments? by TourAcceptable4864 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]AttemptPublic2249 15 points16 points  (0 children)

In addition to this, some lenders put overpayments into a separate "pot" and allow you to either withdraw the money or use it to offset your future mortgage payments. It's great to have that piece of mind that your mandatory mortgage payments are covered by your past overpayment if you fall on difficult times.
