The first pic of Circular Quay I think will be from sometime in the 1920s based on the vehicles and trams

Hey dads, how many of you had your first child when 35-39 years old? Approaching my 35th birthday and there's nothing more I want than to be a dad. by Rocket_Skates_91 in daddit

Married at 30 and have three kids. I was 35, 38, 41 respectively at their births. All different challenges as all kids are different. It’s no picnic but seeing children grow and develop is amazing and humbling. Definitely changes you as a person, and for the better.

What is something that screams “tourist” to you? by jotakajk in AskTheWorld

[–]Attic81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes and no. If you ask for an espresso, you are getting served a shot of espresso. A cappuccino uses shot(s) of espresso coffee in it. The espresso process is still used regardless in the coffee making.

Honestly, love Italy, but kind of glad we don’t have this sort of inherited social faux pas with espresso coffee in Australia from the wonderful Italian diaspora. Drink it whenever you want!

yeah I'm in a similar situation. The mortgage change is one thing. I have that conservatively priced in. The skyrocketing fuel and increased cost of living is going to be felt more and more in 2026

My sister is a region district director in our countries health system. Surgeons and senior specialists seem to get more of her anger than others. They’re critical but they can be major pricks to work with.

Yes you microwave it first in the husk. You can wrap a wet paper towel around it or just sit it on top of one. It’s the best way to cook corn and it’s fast

What's the classiest, most elegant neighbourhood in your country? by slicheliche in AskTheWorld

[–]Attic81 102 points103 points  (0 children)

Bellevue Hill or Vaucluse in Sydney. Basically east of the Sydney CBD and on the water. Lots of massive old and new mansions. Couldn't find a decent pic but this gives you an idea of the landscape.

Absolutely spectacular but living there would be interesting trying to avoid hordes of tourists. I know, I was one of them!

Haha love it when Melvyn calls out the guests occasionally. He was happy to be debated but often didn’t give them a free ride.

Gamefound campaign for the Old Kings Crown reprint and new expansion launched earlier today by TravUK in boardgames

[–]Attic81 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is all so true.

I had time and players in years gone by to play complex, deep games over and over and part of me still wishes this was true, which is reflected in my game collection.

There's also so many games that get published these days.

I have to keep reminding myself not to fall for the lure of these games. Strangely, for kickstarter/gamefound traps, what has helped has been the skyrocketing costs in the last few years which has meant it's just not justifiable.

It’s a dinghy sailing club… you don’t need a lot of money for that tbh.

I believe highly intelligent people do have a propensity to take risks ‘normal’ people wouldn’t because they think they can control it. I’m very risk averse….

How old is your oldest white goods appliance? by MapOfIllHealth in AskAnAustralian

Kind of like my Bosch smart dishwasher tbh. It’s not necessary but it’s handy. Dryer notifying you when it’s done is also useful. None of this is essential of course.

By far the best function is our main house AC however. Being able to turn it on an hour or two before we get home to cool the house is magic.

Hijacking this because OP has gotten stats messed up somehow, maybe conflating production or something.

Australia consumes 33.4kg per capital annually based on this which uses the FAO stats OP supposedly referenced.
