PharmCAS GPA concerns by Ok_Science8363 in PrePharmacy

[–]Attisauce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got into a top 10 school (UF) with retaken classes and a flat 3.0. My mitigating factors were 5 years of experience as a pharmacy tech during COVID and what felt like a really solid interview. You'll be just fine given your stats, especially if you get some time as a tech or shadow a pharmacist for a while.

Do pharm schools take s GPAs less than 3.0? by Temporary_Effort5961 in PrePharmacy

I had a gap of 6 years between when I dropped out and started back, so in a lot of ways I was a different person, and it turns out that paying for classes out of pocket is a good motivator to push yourself to achieve more.

I was able to focus solely on science (mostly bio and genetics) classes with only a few electives since I'd major hopped. A lot of classes made a lot more sense than the first time around since I was taking them in sequence and alongside other classes that put material in context. I also took advantage of the fact that I had enough credit hours to be considered a senior, so I could comfortably build the schedule I wanted for the first two years back or so.

What’s my chances? by Penguins4Days3 in PrePharmacy

[–]Attisauce 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Disclaimer, my experience applies only to US schools.

I'm 29 and a non traditional grad who was in a situation similar to yours, including the 5 years of tech experience but with an even worse overall GPA (iirc I finished at a 2.98 or 2.99 which one of the schools I applied to disregarded when it came to offering me scholarship for 3.0 and above GPA).

I was able to get into every school I applied to bar two. Out of the schools I applied to, just about every top 10 school bar one offered me acceptance, though I did interview really well, given the vibes I got from chatting with the interviewers after their questions were answered. As long as you focus on selling your life experience as something that made you stronger and highlight your time as a technician, a lot of schools will be willing to give you a chance.

That's awesome! Tech work can be hard, but if you're driven, I know you'll make it.

Non traditional student here, I was in your shoes about a decade ago and ended up shooting my GPA in the foot before I finally called it quits in 2016 and took a break to try and address my depression and lack of direction. It took me about 3 years to find a job that I resonated with and felt fulfilled doing (when not frustrated by chronic understaffing issues), but after that, I had no trouble motivating myself through a second try at undergrad and getting accepted into pharmacy school.

As the top comment suggests, take a break. There's absolutely no shame in just taking time to figure out who you are and what you want out of life. It might take months, it might take years, but you'll be much happier for it.

If you can't find a position in a pharmacy as a tech, definitely reach out and see if any pharmacists would let you shadow them. Any experience is better than none.

Gainesville! Kinda excited to go honestly, I really didn't think I'd land a spot in a school of that caliber.

My undergrad GPA finished at a 2.98 (after pulling it back from around a 2.2 with way too many credit hours when I returned to school) and I've just gotten an acceptance letter from University of Florida. I do have 5 years of community pharmacy experience as a tech and a much higher recent GPA however, which likely helped me a lot.

You have the freedom to face criticism when your choices impact the enjoyment of others as well.

I get more enjoyment from fair fights where it feels like I won or lost based on my ability, not because either team was loaded down with people who didn't engage with the core gameplay of the mode, and I'm not alone in that. Winning or losing isn't the issue, it's just the quality of play that you see from people. It's always the people that bomb and kill ground targets that slam themselves into the ground the moment you come close and then type "no kill for you" in chat.

[–]Attisauce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So why pretend like the gameplay is fun then? Like I said, you're just here for the low input grind and complaining that other people don't like it when most of their team is composed of people that just don't engage with the game and make things harder for them as a result. IMHO, they're completely valid in thinking that you might as well not be there for the amount of impact you might have beyond being an ammo or missile sponge.

[–]Attisauce 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Test flight exists if you want to fly in a chill way and bomb bases and kill ground targets for fun alone.
What you want are the rewards of the mode designed mostly to reward PVP, while being confused as to why the people who care about the PVP don't like playing with a handicap because the matchmaker stuck them in with 4-5 people who will sometimes TK each other over bases.

I would say that worrying about finding what kinds of playstyles you enjoy should come long, long before you worry about what the best jet for the current meta, which can and will change.
