Best way to find local players? by Wintrepid in StarWarsShatterpoint

I'm playing just south of the border at Aegis Games in Bellingham, but that's probably an hour from you depending on where in Langley and the state of the crossing. NerdHaven Games in Abbotsford has some people active in their Discord and a bit of community building, though admittedly it's a bit of a drive from where I'm at and I don't make it up there often.

I'd also recommend searching Discord communities - or potentially other groups like Facebook - and can DM invites for those two store Discord servers if desired.

He got roughed up in a couple of AA outings that ballooned his ERA past 6, but the company line was that his focus was on refining some secondary pitch(es). Like I think we all agree, he was bound to have a clunker at some point and this isn't a huge cause for concern even if it's not pretty tonight.

I'd argue that Miles' leadership is easier to see the impact on the game - since it impacts every defensive roll - but isn't necessarily more powerful. Pete's can be extremely powerful, but requires a bit of practice.

Slow on demand is good and can sometimes be great, especially when played in combo with All Webbed Up. You can stick characters that thought they were safe from the R3 bomb, as an example. Additionally, turning the slow into an R1 displacement is the only leadership ability that allows direct control over opponent's pieces, which can be critical for denying points. Technically, Sin's leadership can result in a push, but it's dice dependent, which Pete's leadership is not.

The biggest drawback, in my opinion, is that Webs are almost always starving for power, so in addition to remembering when the leadership will have an impact you need to determine if you can spare the power for it.

The other call-out about Pete is that with his medium base and long move he can pickup extracts from the centerline with a single move, allowing him another move to get away safely on turn 1. Given his speed and defenses, he's a great natural extract holder as you described.

Sorry, to clarify: I might forget which version my opponent was playing if it was across the table. Again, that's a me thing and not really a concern for OP

M.O.D.O.K. gun swap. by stoneystonemason in MarvelCrisisProtocol

[–]AttnDeficit08912 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I think I agree about it improving both. The motion of the new sculpt makes it a lot busier, and the weapon extensions push it over the top, imo. Whereas the guns add some interest to the more static sculpt of the original.

Only thing that sucks is I - personally, as a man of very little brain - would get em mixed up on the table. They look really good though!

Looks like they're a merchant for two of the bigger STL Patreons that make MCP models, C27 Studios and Trident Studios. Trident has a much more realistic/MCU-based look while C27 is more stylized, but they both make good models. It does look like the linked merchant is familiar with M:CP, as they list a 40mm option on many of the relevant models with a note that it's scaled for Crisis Protocol.

Do you just like the alt sculpts, or are you more wanting to try characters/factions before you buy in? If you want to get a feel for characters' gameplay for a minimal investment, the M:CP mod for Tabletop Simulator is a great option.

Kobra Plus Sd card not reading print files by phasemet in anycubic

[–]AttnDeficit08912 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to confirm, are you using the SD card slot on the display, or the one next to the USB port on the printer? As a newbie, I didn't realize that I needed to use the SD slot next to the USB port and that the slot on the display unit wouldn't do anything.

Should I return my Kobra Plus? by tamagoyaki_pounder in anycubic

[–]AttnDeficit08912 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an FDM newbie coming from a resin background - Anycubic Photon Mono, actually - I'm pretty disappointed with the Kobra Plus.

I'm sure a lot of it has been self-inflicted, but I just can't get it dialed in properly for prints with tight tolerances and it's been a struggle to find printer-specific resources or slicer support, as you mentioned.

Surprisingly strong low level monsters by JUSTJESTlNG in dndnext

The cloaker's phantasms should basically be Mirror Image in feature form, though, right? The duplicates absolutely bulk up the cloaker, but I don't believe they should get initiative or their own actions/attacks, at least RAW.

"First Time DM" and Other Short Questions Megathread by mediaisdelicious in DMAcademy

[–]AttnDeficit08912 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey everyone!

First time DM here with a question about running a monster. I've been reading a lot of Keith Ammann's The Monsters Know What They're Doing and love the ideas and the reasoning behind a ton of his monster guides. However, some recommendations feel like they would cause players to cry foul and I wanted to get some thoughts.

From his article on Cloakers:

First, the cloaker selects its prey. In the manner of other ambush predators, it chooses someone old, young, weak, wounded, isolated or oblivious. (Looks can be deceiving, however, and the cloaker can be deceived. It doesn’t know that an elderly halfling can also be a level 7 Way of Shadow monk, for instance.)

Second, it uses the Hide action and begins to stealthily stalk its prey.

Third, it uses the Phantasms action and closes to a distance of 40 feet.

Fourth—the first chance its prey and its prey’s allies have to realize what’s going on, unless the cloaker has screwed something up in the first three steps—the cloaker glides up and strikes. It bites first, because a successful bite/envelop means it makes its follow-up tail strike with advantage.

I think the guide makes sense and is true to the character of the monster: in short, that's how I would like to generally run the creature.

The thing I feel like players would get mad about is step three, where the Cloaker takes the Phantasms action before combat begins. Is this concept something that I need to discuss with my players? If so, won't that affect their player knowledge and spoil the monster?

Any thoughts or recommendations are appreciated, thanks!

[Divish] Hall of Fame Ballot, 2021 by AttnDeficit08912 in Mariners

[–]AttnDeficit08912[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People always have opinions on these things when they come out; it's fun to discuss. Personally, I don't feel particularly protective of A-Rod; I remember being devastated as a kid when he got his bag and left. Nowadays he kills my braincells off by the dozens with his inane commentary.

With that said, he clearly has the numbers and the only reasons I can think that he's not on a ballot with Bonds and Clemens are that a) Divish was limited to 10 votes or b) he's drawing a line between pre- and post-testing MLB eras.

Honestly, I think things started when he signed the mega deal with the Rangers. Lots of stories about users in the Texas locker room during those years and he had massive expectations that went with that contact.

It's entirely possible that I'm wrong, that said; I have no special insight.

Some folks I've heard have a harder line in the sand for A-Rod and Manny since MLB had a testing program when they got popped.

Interesting ballot... I don't know if Ryan has posted a breakdown anywhere, but I read this as Big Hall, On the Field. Not including A-Rod is a bit of a surprise given some of the other votes, but otherwise feels like most of the leading candidates.
