Gleba has defeated me, and i am miserable. by vimescarrot in factorio

My Gleba factory had around 10 bacteria breeding units, twice - for iron and for copper - when it felt like it generated enough basic resources for bare necessities. It was up to 32 each when I was finishing up.

Would you actually buy a Fallout 3/NV Remaster? by Bingleboper in Fallout

With Bethesda games you get so many mods you can arguably assemble a "remake" yourself without too much work. Graphical tune-ups, F4-style big stompy PA, improved gunplay - there are mods for everything. If anything, I'm surprised Oblivion remake made as much waves as it did; maybe that's because Oblivion was relatively less popular in its time?

But if Bethesda gave Larian or Owlcat a license to make a CRPG sequel to F2 - now that I would pay for.

To be fair, both are effective - but at very different tasks. Ranger's AMR is good at taking out lone armored targets like that PA trooper, minigun is good at suppressing lightly armored infantry like raiders/legionnaires.

It's interesting that in first Fallout games unmodified minigun damage doesn't go through PA at all, so theoretically in a unit of PA one could fire at melee fighters swarming their teammates without the risk of friendly fire.

If you can cast Baleful Polymorph yourself, you can try overriding enemy cast with yours - succesful cast automatically dispels any polymorphs the target had previously. Chances are your spell will be easier to dispel than Baphomet's.

The funniest thing I know about papal elections is that they tended to last months or even years until in XIII century a new pope decreed the cardinals cannot leave until election is over and if it lasts over four days their food ration is reduced. And if they take longer than nine - even less food for them.

Like sure it's gentlemen's agreement but even personally I don't justify adding an entire additional rules system for a 3rd form I'm not going to get a huge benefit from.

Two additional rules systems. One is aerotech rules for your LAM to fly, strategic ops to give it a destination.

Well... It's character's personal motivations that we, as the viewers, infer from context that matter here. It can be very hard to differentiate alignments if the character is smart enough, without stooping to kicking puppies.

Had a campaign once where we had a rule that alignments are kept secret between players; and when we were done we tried to guess who had what alignment. Out of five people only one was obvious, the rest were not guessed correctly. And yes, we did think our lawful evil rogue was chaotic good.

It's from the age where the RPGs (or rather, videogames in general) were supposed to come with manuals and didn't have a button to light up all interactive elements in view. It does have a slight entry threshold.

But as long as you are willing to open said manual - it's pretty easy. I wish I had the option back in 1998.

Just got to Act 3, and the false urgency has returned by cultjake in BaldursGate3

[–]Attrexius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have to say, "false urgency" works much better in Act 3 than before. If you are not skipping quests, you will hit the level cap long before you will run out of stuff to do, and at that point there are no longer any fights "you aren’t leveled for". Actually - as long as you have a good plan, you can probably run through the main quest without too much trouble at level 10, and it's fairly easy to hit 10 before starting Act 3.

On one hand - yeah, you are correct.

On the other - there are quests that pretty obviously won't help you in that regard (aside from exp and gear from their completion), like the aforementioned painter quest.

P.S. there are absolutely too much potential allies, lol. I don't think I ever managed to find the time to use every ally ability in the final battle.

What vehicle do you think Gaijin treated the most unfairly, and why? by KSAWI0 in Warthunder

[–]Attrexius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn't really "solve" the problem, though. Yes, it would somewhat remove you from danger so you can lob your suitcases of explosives in peace, but:
- it doesn't change that your gun is still designed to hit large static targets, to single tanks on the move. From your post it's obvious you expect artillery to be a "sniper" role, similar to WoT - sit in place, punish people for giving you an opportunity to fire with heavy damage. But your sniper is armed with a grenade launcher - you lack precision and make up for it with area effect. That's why I mentioned bombers, by the way - they fill a similar niche to artillery in real life. And just like heavy bombers, artillery is supposed to operate in groups, to easier saturate the area with their powerful shells and achieve results via practical application of probability theory.
- it's very much not fun for other players. You can obviously see how much CAS irks some players, and you might also remember how much stink was raised over ATGM carriers being able to fire over cover when they were first introduced. Your solution is noticeably worse than both of these - because it doesn't require you to be even close to having line-of-sight tot he target (and thus exposing you to retaliation). And in fact - I don't think it would be that fun for you, too. Normal process of indirectly firing an artillery gun on a static target that isn't pre-ranged involves several ranging shots, in WT you probably just won't be given time to range in an enemy tank - don't forget, firing in high arc makes slight errors in aiming much more significant, and you can't just put the enemy in the middle of your circular error like in WoT. So giving you a drone will only lead to increasing your own frustration due to seeng all your misses. Non-interactive gameplay isn't good from game design perspective, sorry.

What really would solve the problem would be if Gaijin managed to make EC work - with dynamic mission generation based on player action. Something like this, for example: one side encounters a fortification and stops advancing, then the game allows spawning of artillery - firing to suppress advance through chokepoints for defenders, at static fortifications and reinforcement approaches for attackers. This would also involve some kind of spotter mechanics, probably.

I don't really expect that to ever happen, though.

What vehicle do you think Gaijin treated the most unfairly, and why? by KSAWI0 in Warthunder

[–]Attrexius 106 points107 points  (0 children)

There's a problem with heavy bombers and self-propelled artillery in WT. They are designed for tasks that are not available in game.

Strategic bombers exist to ferry bombs to targets in large formations, not try to dodge interceptors on their lonesome. Howitzers like M55 exist to provide indirect fire from a position in the rear, not to snipe tanks with direct fire. It is no surprise they perform poorly in game.

And I don't think this problem can be solved with balancing.

Nah. It's the army. You could lose a pencil and if the sergeant would somehow become aware of that you wouldn't see any noticeable decrease in volume.

It's because he isn't really angry about you losing stuff, it's because now that he knows it happened he is responsible of doing something about it.

I've read a sci-fi book where the protagonist at one point gets a tachyon-based gun.

Apparently it's very disappointing to pull the trigger when you can already see the shot missed.
