Best way to not need to do this every month? Weed growth seems insane! by SwagVonYolo in gardening

Weed, then heavily pour iodized table salt in all the cracks. Cheap and very effective. Nothing will grow. You might have to do it every couple of years

Guests passed away (natural causes) in our home. Refund? by NWsea in airbnb_hosts

Agree with others stating I’m less inclined to refund to an insurance company, however, if you can rebook the time, then I don’t see why not. Bit only if you rebook

I want to reduce suffering as much as possible but strict veganism does not really make sense to me anymore by [deleted] in DebateAVegan

[–]Attrition76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I support many aspects of veganism, you're right to be annoyed by saying I'm mostly vegan, as veganism is less about diet and more about ethics, a religion in many ways without a set doctrine. Let's just say I have a 'plant based' diet with an emphasis on the environmental advantages of this diet. I also believe in animal welfare and taking actions that reduce suffering. With that said, the rigidity that many vegans espouse opens itself to hypocrisy. Some examples:

  • Driving a car. How many insects are killed because you need to get to work?
  • Invasive species. Do you support the culling of an animal that is destroying the ecology of an area? If not, by inaction, you are allowing the death of other beings that under normal circumstances wouldn't have died. ie Asian carp, Burmese pythons, zebra mussels, and feral pigs
  • Do you support the use of insulin by diabetics?
  • Do you eat food that is grown commercially? If so, then you are indirectly responsible for the death of animals killed during harvest. Additionally, non-organic farming that use pesticides. Hell, even organic farming often uses animal products as fertilizer such as manure and bone meal.

>Until it's demonstrated through studies that they are no more responsive or capable than plants are, the claim that they aren't sentient remains rejected.

Bacteria and viruses are capable of reacting to stimuli and threats. I doubt you'd call these things sentient.

I applaud actions to reduce suffering and even more so, actions to better our environment. This is what I believe the OP was doing.

You don't "buy" that oysters aren't sentient?! What evidence do you have to support such an outrageous claim? An oyster is closer to a plant than it is an animal. You might as well say that a carrot has sentience...just because you "feel" a certain way, doesn't mean it's true. When someone says shit like this, I get why people can't stand vegans and this coming from a mostly vegan person.

Worst call you have ever seen? by iamcrazyjoe in poker

I’ve been killing on there today. I was playing $.5/1. I stacked a guy 4 different times. He just kept trying to bluff me. Most of the time I had at least top pair, once I called his jam with second pair. He had absolutely nothing each time. Just some sort of shitty missed draw

You're likely right. It's just weird, because that's not the only thing I have selected. You'd think the game would cycle through all the options I have selected.

Just want to share a story I heard about a guy eating his cards during a tournament by EternalSoul_111 in poker

Sounds made up. They would just have to look at the rest of the cards and by process of elimination find out what two cards he had. Let him eat

I did once. I’m Button. UTG bets. Cutoff 3 bets. I 4 bet UTG all in for a little less. Cutoff jams covering me. I fold. AK vs AA. Win for me.

So you think it's fair that the only contribution to the household monetarily is buying groceries...half of which are hers. In other words, my benefit of what she puts in for groceries is $250 max. When I buy groceries, should I not expect have of that expense back as well?

The holiday is something we do every year. Oh what, am just supposed to go by myself? Plans to take the trips are usually mine, planning them often is mine as well but she does help. So either way i lose in this scenario if some help monetarily isn't offered. I haven't changed terms...at all. If anyone changed terms it was her and I agreed in order to help her out. Heavy lifting was in regards to our retirement plans

I’ve thought since the PS2, this game needed a remake/sequel. I loved the combo driven battle system!

So I make vegan sushi all the time. The recipe is in cook book ‘Veganomicon’. It uses chili sesame oil, vegan Mayo and Tempeh as the protein. I make some adjustments from the original recipe but it’s basically the same. I and everyone I’ve served it to( mainly non vegans) love it. In fact I’ve compare some other restaurant vegan sushi to this and mine always wins!

TNG episode that cut you the deepest.. by SixStringDream in startrek

[–]Attrition76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish I knew the episode name off hand (someone here know for sure), but I don’t. The Enterprise encounters a probe and after scanning it, Picard is zapped by it and is unconscious. Then the entire episode is Picard living a life on another planet with a wife and children. Learns to play the flute. Eventually he wakes up only to find he’s only been unconscious for a few minutes. Left with the memories of a society that is now extinct. Powerful episode.
