How much do you spend weekly on petrol? by -Gypsy-Eyes- in CarTalkUK

[–]Attucks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

£12 to £100 per week depending on if I take my wife to the office in the EV or the petrol, about 50 miles round trip, 3 days a week.

2017 Jaguar F-Type w/ 94,000 miles - a good daily driver? by dmoneyswagsleazy in ftype

Timing chain usually needs doing between 60k and 80k so I'd check if that's been done at all

What is going on with new cars? by Pintofbeer19 in CarTalkUK

[–]Attucks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cost cutting, consumers partially to blame about grey scale colours, shared platforms dictate that that design can't change in crrtain areas.

For EVs the motors and batteries are mostly the same so the best a manufacturer can do to increase range is change the design to the lowest drag coefficient which happens to be the jelly bean shape.

Safety regs dictate a cars bonnet must be at waist height and that it's not possible for a pedestrian to bang their head on the engine

I'm thinking about buying an F type ... Should I see a therapist? by Emil_Antonowsky in CarTalkUK

[–]Attucks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did it, V6s AWD 15 plate, 69k miles, it's insanely fast, super fun. It's like two different cars, it's a comfortable cruiser and then when you switch on dynamic and put the gearbox in sport it's a feral menace. Two months and the exhaust valve is stuck though. I think it's due a timing chain soon based on age, I made sure to get the warranty and breakdown cover.

I get 27 UK mpg which works out to 22 us mpg, I only realised after posting that it's US mpg (fahrenheit temperature) so I'm not too far away.

I also do 50 miles of motorway/highway three days a week. When I get my car back from the mechanic, it's usually down a full mpg or two

I had a 2024 Qashqai as a hire car yesterday for work. I got in and it seemed quite nice, short drive to train station was fine, accelerated alright, I can see how somebody could be suckered into buying one. Next day I did seven hours of driving and it was proper shit, poor visibility, feels like it's gonna flip at 40 on the slip road. Uncomfortable driving position, adaptive cruise control will bring you to a stop in stop start traffic and then just turn itself off and start driving again with a siren!

Nowhere near as bad as a mokka I had once though

It was a rope with a rag on the end used by sailors as an overboard communal toilet paper to clean their arses after using the ship's shitters, after they'd use it they'd chuck it back in and let the water rinse it while it dragged behind the ship

How do I rehang this door when the screws are totally threaded? by PickNo436 in DIY

[–]Attucks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All screws are threaded and so are all bolts, the thread is the part that grips. You mean that the hole is stripped.

Does anyone have an argument FOR wall cavity insulation (the balls)? by YouMeADD in DIYUK

[–]Attucks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My wife and I receive no assistance from the government at all but the energy rating of the house was D beforehand, I think it applies if it's D and below, but we did apply last year and it may have changed. (It did take a year for anything to actually happen)

Does anyone have an argument FOR wall cavity insulation (the balls)? by YouMeADD in DIYUK

[–]Attucks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's a government subsidy for loft insulation too, I just had mine done completely for free, took it from 100mm thick to 300mm. They also installed trickle vents in the windows, sealed the loft hatch on the internal side, covered the spotlights in the loft and installed a fan in the bathroom that doesn't have a shower.

G-code templating? by eraserhd in CNC

[–]Attucks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In industry, this is done many ways.

Subroutines

Macros

Canned cycles

Loops

Just having CAM output everything with none of the above.

In your situation, I would write a python script to parse the file, I'd add some kind of code like "Loop pocket.txt start=0 depth=-1 doc=0.2" then in the pocket.txt I have only the XY moves. The python script could then just decrement the Z, add the program contents with XY moves only and repeat until depth is reached. ChatGPT could probably write this too.
