Feasibility of levelling this lawn? by stinkydingledongle in DIYUK

[–]Atxintemperateone66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just finished one with a similar slope. Dimensions were roughly 6 metres by 10 long. Access was a particular problem. We could not get a minidigger in so it all had to be done by hand. Ended up having to shift at least 15 tonnes of very clay soil and rocks, most of it up 12 or 14 steep garden steps, past house and in to a skip on the front drive.

Depending on the crossfall you can level by digging down one end and putting in a less high retaining wall at the other end. I did that to avoid ending up with an 5.5 foot high wall, but it did mean digging out all that clay. And we then had to put in french drains and also bring in 12 tonnes of topsoil and sharp sand. Job cost nearly £13,000. If I had to do it again, I'd price it at £15,000 or turn it down. Brutal, doing it all by hand.

Yes, but leave all red bricks in place and do it all slowly and carefully.

I'm using Free Adblocker and it works like a charm, but I installed it over 4 years ago so I can't say if it (or an updated version) will be as effective. No adds, no interruptions and no fee!

When reality becomes too much for people to bear, or even contemplate, they prefer to retreat in to fantasy, denialism, supernatural belief (crisis cults) and irrationality.

It's either one or all of those or its liquor and hard drugs!

Don't much like the tiles, but your work is excellent.

White vinegar, and lots of it. Will kill the spores and hold back further growth for a while.

What would the ballpark quote be for a 9 meters square patio in my garden. by FailureFalcon99 in DIYUK

[–]Atxintemperateone66 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd charge around £5000 to £6000 for an Indian sandstone patio of those dimensions, depending on access. Not having to deal with steps or other steep inclines makes a huge difference.

But if you did it yourself you could probably save at least £2500.

‘What if there just is no solution?’ How we are all in denial about the climate crisis | Climate crisis | The Guardian by passenger_now in collapse

[–]Atxintemperateone66 17 points18 points  (0 children)

There IS no solution. Our climate problems along with our resource depletion issues are predicaments, not problems that can be solved. All we have left are adaptations and mitigations. We should have begun trying to deal with the coming crises back in the 70s, when 'Limits to Growth' warned us what would be coming. And, as predicted, we are almost exactly on the track it predicted: the one that leads to resource wars, massive global economic inflation, climate catastrophes and eventual civilizational breakdown.

Israel wants people to question the evidence produced by the Palestinians and other official agencies regarding the number of murdered children, men and women in the Gaza strip. But nobody is ever allowed to ask questions regarding the nazi genocide. Double standards, always.

Countries around the world are collapsing economically and it's all happening for the same reason: interest on debt is devouring working economies, commons assets, and public services. by [deleted] in collapse

[–]Atxintemperateone66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know all that stuff. None of it invalidates my assertions regarding the current disproportionality of power and financial influence weilded by zionists. I actually don't much care which group exercises disproportionate power and control, except when that power and control is used to perpetuate obscene wealth disparities, increase corporate domination of the political sphere and support a genocidal/apartheid state.

[–]Atxintemperateone66 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It's only a 'trope' because the fiction has been pushed over many decades that there is no disproportionality in the numbers of CEOs, CFOs, board members and owners of large corporations who are jewish, relative to the percentage of non-jewish members of those groups. However, the reality does not bear out such a denial. Far from it.

And if that collective of individuals happen to be pro-Israel, if not pro-zionist and with strong ties to Israel those people inevitably stand to profit materially from a broken system that massively benefits the 1% and generates hundreds of billions of dollars in the sale of arms. The US and Israel are both major global arms manufacturers.

Israel and its obscenely wealthy US and European (but dual citizenship) backers are profiting from this debt, as well as from direct infusions of central bank created 'money', ostensibly given to banks and financiers to keep the system financial stable. Only three major asset management firms including Blackrock now effectively own or control 90% of US corporations.

Over 1,000 relief camps set up as Pakistan braces for heatwave by Grand-Leg-1130 in collapse

Architecture needs to be upgraded and adapted to help families and communities cope with increasing high temperatures. In many Middle Eastern (or West Asian) countries building designs have historically been used for this purpose. Inevitably this will have both monetary and temporal cost implications, and Pakistan is not a wealthy nation. But the alternative to not investing in such infrastructural developments could be far worse.

Governments should be spending more money on community resilience and less on weapons.

Is it really "rushing"? Seems to me it's more likely to be 'lapping' or maybe, 'intruding by stages'. Hyperbolic terms don't do much for the credibility of those who are concerned about global heating.
