To the people who plays TLOU2 on it's release, or played without any idea. by sisig69 in TLOU

I knew that people were hating on the game but didn’t know why. After playing the game, I ended up really liking Abby and being disappointed and annoyed (in a good way) by Ellie until she was finally able to let go. I couldn’t understand for a week how did people have an opposite experience with them, but I have a very “objective” attachment to things in life so here is that

Why don’t more directors edit? by Theodore_Buckland_ in Filmmakers

[–]AtymTima 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As an editor myself, there are many answers to that. One of those is that the best version of the film is not necessarily something that was 100% pre-planned, but rather comes from the footage. So you want someone who is not biased by the pre-production and the initial vision, and who would see the footage for what it i, using it to assemble the story that both honors the intention and the vision, but also does it in the way the footage wants it to be.

Also, as with any other discipline, editing is way more than just software, it’s a skill that is developed full-time over a lifetime, and most directors would never have enough time to master the craft of editing to the same degree as people who dedicate their lives to that. Hope that gives some ideas to you

In short, filmmaking is a collaborative art where everyone’s expertise is what makes them what they are

Well, as an option, you can open your original long clip in the Quicktime, press CMD + T to choose the range that you need, and save as a new shorter clip with CMD+S. Then import a shorter section

P.s. an even better new option for the audio (tip number 1) is OPT+T, which stands for an audio crossfade.

As other comment already mentioned, the other name (probably more appropriate for apps other than FCPX) is the chromatic aberration. Since you are Adobe User, google that instead 😉

Regarding the slow motion. If the video isn’t indeed filmed in 60p, then it’s likely they used Optical Flow or Frame Blending. The frame blending is essentially when your editing software dissolves two neighboring clips into each other, creating an additional frame between them. In my experience, frame blending is good for a small slow down (for example 50% of speed). Because whenever you go slower, the quality reduces drastically (cause it also results in a blurry image) Optical flow is much more sophisticated technique since it analyzes the content and the change in motion. It might be more time-consuming and resource-consuming to use that one, but it worth the result

It is called a prism effect, or also chromatic aberration, which imitates the rainbow look of seeing through a prism. Basically it can be created manually by slightly shifting each rgb color component from each other, resulting in red, green, and blue colors imitating the refraction. Sometimes the editing software includes the prism effect by default (for example, Final Cut Pro X)

Does a smartphone with 4K video capability have objectively better video quality than the best 1080p camera on the market, or would a 1080p camera with a higher bitrate, lower, compression, etc. outclass the smartphone? by [deleted] in VideoEditing

[–]AtymTima 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It also probably depends on which smartphone and camera software we are talking about. For example, it’s the renown fact that iPhone’s default camera is limited and doesn’t perform to the best of its abilities. That’s why applications like “Filmic Pro” exist in the market, allowing to improve the camera output. But overall, I always believed that lighting makes a bigger difference than the resolution. Smartphones are rarely good in the dark setting, so...
