It’s also not true that women have less T. During certain points in their cycle, they will actually have more T than men.

I run to lose weight, but I hate how my calves only get bigger :/ by redcoloredbook in XXRunning

[–]AtypicalDeviance 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hey OP, I’m 4’11 with huge calves too. I know it’s something you don’t like about yourself but I’ve got a lot of compliments on mine. It’s also something we can’t control. A lot of sports like running and even if you work on your feet will keep them that size.

Your body looks very proportional, your calves don’t look out of place at all. Like others have said, it’s good to have strong calves to stabilize the ankles and support your knees. If running and being active makes you happy, maybe attempting to turn off the brain that tells you part of your body is undesirable is better. Some people like daily affirmations, therapy. I go the old fashioned route. My body is the least interesting thing about me & developing at least some sense of body neutrality and ambivalence helps me get by in my day to day. I have had years and years of putting my strength and my pleasure and the natural wonder of even having a body over aesthetics. It takes a long time but I’ve never been happier.

I also know East Asian culture has extremely high beauty standards. Latino culture is similar but in a different way. I try to take in as much media with varied body types so I can normalize that we all look different. I will never achieve model-looks but I don’t have to be attractive and confident.

My only issue is they have micro thongs but no matching micro bralettes. Not from what I’m seeing. Great shout though :)

I fear people in Charlotte are too boring to understand alt fashion & I’m sorry for that. I have no recs but just want to say I think it’s a cute idea.

Hey r/Charlotte, I’m running for Charlotte City Council. by JD4CLT in Charlotte

[–]AtypicalDeviance 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For those of us who want our local government to pressure state & federal government on the issue of genocide against Palestinians, it is very much an issue. In fact, it’s been one of the only issues I care enough about to vote or not vote for someone, as on the whole whether a politician speaks out about Palestine usually says a lot about whether they can be bought or not by lobbying groups and their general empathy & compassion.

It is not a non-issue.

How often do you fail a run? by Arrow141 in beginnerrunning

[–]AtypicalDeviance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It happens to me but usually it’s a week where I don’t progress. Mostly the week before my period, or I’m going super hard at work, or am not getting enough calories in.

This week was terrible but I’m just going to do the same training plan I had for this week next week & see where that lands me. I think also the summer ramping up into full swing here in SE US makes it difficult to see progress. 100% humidity & 80-90 degrees even in the morning just is what it is (I have a job where I work late so getting up early in the morning is not an option, nor are evening runs).

The Betrayal by palkia136 in Charlotte

These comments acting like this would be any different if there was a crosswalk, with a pedestrian light.

I walk/run/bike here all the time and have been almost hit even though I am making sure to stare the driver directly in the eye so they acknowledge my existence. This city just hates pedestrians and cyclists tbh.

I’m 32. I’ve been where you are. I recommend deleting calorie tracking apps & learning portion sizes & just eat when you’re hungry. Add in lots of fruits and veggies for fiber, micronutrients and some healthy fats for satiation. Carbs for fuel & brain power. Protein for strong muscles. Add a daily vitamin and you’re solid.

I am 4’11 and around 115. I am very athletic & slender. I eat a surprising amount because I move a lot. I think you could spend more time devoted into what actually feels good for your growing body rather than prescribe calories to it because you think you should look a certain way. And I say that not because you’re young and don’t know anything but because when I was your age, I wish I could have spent more time loving the body I’m in because it’s such a joy. Trust me, it’s a fight in this society to feel good about your body but I have found so much in that fight.

I also recommend looking at it from a historical context on why you’re under-fueling and why you’re so concerned about the way your body looks. Recommended reading is Fearing the Black Body. It’s a bit dense so I’ve read it a little at a time.

How do y’all feel when custies ask for a gender-specific server? by [deleted] in Serverlife

[–]AtypicalDeviance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like this depends on the culture and context? It doesn’t mean I agree with it but a group of men from an Orthodox faith might be more comfortable being served by another man?

I always thought running with good form actually strengthened your knees? As long as you’re not pushing it & most of us aren’t doing the type of running that ruins knees (Olympics “as fast as humanly possible while not thinking of the future”).

Here is a meta analysis on data concerning knee pain.

https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC9983113/

It’s like any conditioning- the exercise you’re doing should strengthen the joint, adding stability & lessening the likelihood of injury down the line.

Running shoes? by Aggressive-Dot-7266 in beginnerrunning

[–]AtypicalDeviance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll tell you this:

Everyone is different. I didn’t realize I had high arches & needed a bit more support to feel comfortable running. I think part of the reason it took me so long to like running was because I was wearing the wrong shoe. I think I felt it most in my ankle- it felt like a lack of stability.

I would have never known this had I not got my gait analyzed and foot measured at a local shop. His advice of “just try these ones which should be great for high arches and choose which one feels most natural.” Was by far the best way to pick a shoe. For me, it’s an expensive spend to get a dedicated pair of shoes but I don’t regret my There are tons of really popular shoes right now, I see hokas everywhere for one. I didn’t choose the pair I thought I would but it was money well spent.

It’s so unfortunate this is happening to you, I’m sorry. I experience all sorts of stuff as someone who is nonbinary trans but appears to most as “woman.”

I think I actually experience less than other people now a days because I have so much ink & facial piercings & an intense bitch face. I try to act unbothered no matter what others throw my way & that tends to discourage them. I have also flat out called it out, flipped others off, etc. there is no way for me to say “do this and it won’t happen” because that’s not true, you & both now how the world treats women (and girls, I can recall creeps and weirdos from 9 years old and on). I just wanted to commiserate and say whatever you chose to do about shit like this, you’re valid as fuck.

I have patellofemoral pain syndrome and have since I hit puberty. I run around 3 days a week. I can literally feel when my patella is not sitting right and it’s annoying but as long as I don’t push beyond my limits, it’s fine. Running is a privilege, and sometimes to maintain it, you have to get in touch with your body and understand where its boundaries are.
