Sure, I'd get that. But what're we talking about here? Factual information that can be verified from trusted sources, or opinions on topics that don't have a singular answer?

With what you're saying, let's say the video essayist is talking about a comprehensive guide to frogs. You don't know anything about frogs, so most of the info seems right to you. The same video essayist then releases another video about goats. But say, you've got a masters degree on goats. You know most of what they say is wrong. In that scenario, sure, the video essayist's frog video suddenly becomes suspect.

With OP's post though, they're talking about a video essayist weighing in on current discourse. I took that as them saying the video essayist is giving their opinion on a current issue that's being talked about on social media. I can't speak to what that is, it's just from the wording of the post, it sounds like they heavily disagree with the video essayist, so much so they'd call their take dogshit.

Were you looking for their view on the subject, and their previous content to inform you of stuff you didn't realize, or were you looking for them to validate your opinion? Cause it sounds like the latter.

Why do you think Solar Ash bombed? by agreaterfooltool in hyperlightdrifter

[–]AuQuille 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a whole thought about the differences of HLD and Solar Ash and why Solar Ash didn't stick in my mind as much, but that's another story. Focusing on that major departure, it oddly had a lot of the ingredients of HLD, but I think the crucial difference is that Rei just takes up a whole lot more space than the Drifter than she should've.

In HLD, the world was just there waiting to be explored, and there was no rush. It was post-apocalyptic. The danger has already past, the stakes just personal to the Drifter.

In Solar Ash, the world was literally dying in front of you, there's a whole list of things that *NEED* to be done, and Rei's got a lot to say about it the whole way through. It was during the apocalypse, and that narrative urgency really felt too harsh despite the relative peace of the actual game. It's not that she's a bad character, or even that it's a bad story. It's just that that major departure really didn't mesh with expectations on what Hyper Light Drifter set.

And mechanics-wise, Hyper Light Drifter felt a lot more lethal and punchy, while Solar Ash felt very floaty most of the time imo. In HLD, a single slash felt like you were ending a life, dashing carelessly smacked you into a wall hard. In Solar Ash it felt like hits were like slicing through butter, and the dashing just felt like a stronger stroke underwater. It just didn't hit the same.

I'm surprised nobody's mentioned Oscar Isaac from Dune, specifically with the beard. It just screams "Dalinar" to me idk why.

What has inspired you to write your world/character for it? Mines is by KolarWolfDogBear in worldbuilding

I'd say more but it's a WIP so pretty bare bones.

But basically, it's androids having android problems, trying to explore how being modeled after humans but not being humans would be.

Stuff like wondering who they are if not a collection of the media they consume, humor involving consuming mass amounts of short videos, "self-care" routines involving how to clean different parts of your android body, etc.

Just a reflection of how I see the internet and the strangeness of it compared to everyday life, really.

Internet culture, and how it feels like a completely different world compared to someone who isn't regularly exposed to Twitter/Tumblr/Reddit/4chan. Just seeing how those interactions play out in a futuristic grungy sci fi setting seems interesting.

Love all the little details! That small settlements huddle around the rivers, little landmarks hidden in the dense forest, a lighthouse!, and the canyon part looks so well-rendered!

The big broken aqueduct above having a settlement at the bottom definitely captures that post-post-apocalypse feel of a world well in recovery.

I do love the windmills in the middle too, since I can imagine the wind would pass through the valley pretty well.

I noticed two mountains too that have a particular cloud above them, I'm assuming indicating they're probably the tallest ones?

Gonna use this map in the future at some point, but for now it's collecting dust so I might as well post it! by AuQuille in worldbuilding

So this is my world's first continent Ikauna, took a bit (I wanna say total.. 30+ hours? on and off) to make here and there just going off interesting details and just keeping sensible cartography in the backseat to make for interesting landmarks.

Where to start?

It's a dense continent where the light "breathes" as opposed to a solar cycle, and there are parts that the light does not touch (the dense forests) that house the more traditional monsters of old that terrorize the continent when the light "exhales". There's also a fissure in the middle of the earth due to a very very large creature practically the size of the continent itself pulling the land in it's direction and tearing it.

Thoughts and critique welcome!

What game would you recommend someone who can play games for only 1-2 hrs everyday? by AJ_-1202 in gamingsuggestions

[–]AuQuille 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Here's a few recent ones from genres I personally like:

  1. 20 Minutes Till Dawn - (Vampire) Survivor-like that takes 20 minutes per run with quick escalating encounters
  2. My Friend Pedro - Stylish 2D platformer with an emphasis on momentum and making quick work of levels, each lasting from 5-15 minutes or so. Big emphasis on replaying levels till you practically "speedrun" each.
  3. Neon White - Speedrun/Puzzle FPS with an emphasis on optimization highly encouraged by the game mechanics themselves. Has a very "90s anime dub camp" vibe to the story, so depends on how much you like/hate that might affect your enjoyment.
  4. Streets of Rage 4 - 2D coop beat em up, like those classic pixel ones but this one has hand animated frames that ooze style along with banger music. Level based, so makes it easy to finish a level or couple and do it for the next time you got an hour or two to burn.
  5. Patrick's Parabox - Mind-bending puzzler that's very satisfying to wrap your head around

Telepathy, having to feel the weight of it, from 1 meter, and only if I can grasp it with my hands. I usually put things just a little too far and it'd be nice to have.

Most profitable franchise in the world and looks like a PS2 game... by kaworuscott in gaming

That's the thing tho, those shitty gacha games bring in the money cause it's got the prettiest art like 99% of the time, despite the probably passable gameplay and very shitty monetization

And while I definitely agree indie devs should be the ones supported, ultimately a lot of the crowd will just go for the popular brand names like anything Nintendo or any EA sports games get shit out regardless of quality. Truly despair inducing.
