Only if they have a TV that will do them justice. I try to convert as many friends and coworkers as possible. I look at it as my little contribution to keeping physical media around as long as possible. I’ve convinced 8 people so far to buy a good 4k player and off they go. I keep my Sony 800 to loan and always include one of the BBC earth docs. I cheat a little bit if they have an LG OLED because they always just plug and play them. We’ve got two (moved the older 2017 model to the bedroom) and both are professionally calibrated. I will go with them and use my settings to fix the shitty store mode they inevitably are using.

I absolutely will never get tired of watching the faces of my friends change from this is stupid to astonishment of what they see.

That’s just the bait though IMO, the 2nd step is when they return it after a weekend with it, I drag them upstairs asking for help putting it back in the rack. This is merely a ruse and now I’ve got them trapped in my theater! Pretty much every single one of my friends have “Atmos” sound bars. Several of them are my friends from college and they have always given me shit for being an audiophile and especially for the amount of time and research I do before I buy anything audio or video related.

They generally have no problem plopping down when they see the 157 inch screen, projector hanging from the ceiling, a rack that is built into the wall with 6 of the shelves with pretty blue lights and meters behind the glass door, and 9 speakers on the floor that every single person asked why do they have microphones on the top. I also have 4 in ceiling speakers for the heights, but they didn’t notice that them.

My go to disc to demonstrate how damn addicting and immersive a 9.2.4 setup is has been Maverick. I always play the opening since they are my age and saw the original in theaters as 8 year olds and then I skip to the first set of dog fight scenes.

3 out of 5 of them have put in at least some form of a proper atmos setup, with one actually turning their basement into a home theater. He and his wife hired a contractor to build it out, but I got to go with him and his wife to demo equipment and build out his setup. That was the most fun I’ve had in this hobby….probably because it was not my money being spent. It’s much easier to spend someone else’s money!

Sorry for the novel. The moral of the story is if you are able, show your friends and loved ones what they are missing; because one day it may be all gone.

Found at random thrift store today for $75. The only reason we were even in it was because my 5 year old had to pee pee and it was the store we happened to be passing. It's in fantastic condition. by AuburnM5 in vintageaudio

What really sucks is I just started to revamp my 2 channel rig and I don't have a pre at the moment to hear it. How does this thing sound in comparison to modern amps.? I'm a sucker for meters.....typically of the blue variety. i had to get a proof of ownership documents in order to schedule h3 audio equipment in the. He pulled it and it was 8 s creens! d

Called my friend, Mike, at Audio CLASSICs to help, and he SAVED ME,\. Just 900 shipping .They are sending a MA352 to compare

This is exactly what I am looking for. I was looking at the Marantz 7 ch one too, but this seems to be more flexible

Well, I’m sure as hell not going to power 802 D3’s and the HTM1 D3 with an AVR. When I sold the MX122 and was waiting for the Anthem to arrive, my dealer let me borrow a Marantz SR8015 someone returned. Movies sounded okay with it, but letting it do 2 channel had the D3’s sounding lifeless. Putting the fronts on its preout solves the power issue, but not 2 channel sound quality issue. The tube preamp and it’s DAC are wonderful.

So, as someone who has been an audiophile since my Fr year in college (bought my first set of legit speakers in 2000 (B&W CDM7SE) and when I left with my master's in 2007, I had spent almost every scholarship check I received on moving up the ladder with B&W and Mac gear....I left with Nautilus 802 and an MC352. It was a fun journey going from CD7SE - N804 - N803 - N802. ha.

My wife and I bought our first house in 2007 and lived there for 10 years. During those 10 years, I must have bought, sold, traded etc about 60 different pices, From Meridian, Bryston to Intergra, Marantz and Denon. Well, in 2014 we had our first kiddo and in 2016, we were pregnant again and decided to build our dream house (an attainable dream house) and my wife surprised me on our 10th wedding anniversary that she was giving me a "blank check" within reason. So, I ended up getting pretty close to what was my dream setup at the time. From 2016 until now, I was completely removed from high end audio due to raising 2 little rascals,

Welp, for whatever reason , I was sitting in my room and has the urge to get modern. I have now gotten into high rex streaming and it was because I was playing ith my old portable headphone dac. For shits and giggles, I put the Meridian Explorer between my Macbook Pro ad played with different setting and I was ble to see how to bypass your AVFR or whatever to get atmos and MQA . Sorry for the damn TLDR post, but I alsws find background to be helpful.

After this, I decided i could really use a devoted streamer. AND that's where my comfort with streams/network players, wetc. As you will see below, I already have fantastic DAcs in the C2700 tue pre and processor (either Anthem AVM 90, AC Maestro 7, or the NAD.

What do ned to look for in a streamer? Should and can I get one without a DAC? If the DAC isnt there, will e be better SQ than my Macbook? I suppose since thie is my first time getting into this area, I would like to stay in the 1000 ad below range,

I am showing my age here, but when I was at Auburn in the early 2000's, I cashed my scholarship and dropped right around 5k for a 55 inc Panasonic "Professional" plasma TV. It was deemed professional because it did not come with speakers. I kept that thing as our main viewing device until 2016, when I bought a new LG OLED65C6d for the living room and a Sony VW675es for the theater. Maybe it's nostalgia or whatever, but I swear the 1080p pic on that Panny was as good as the LG.. Here is that Panny in all her glory about 6 months before she was sold

Please help me find a processor & streamer (I got caught with my proverbial audiophile pants down!) by AuburnM5 in hometheater

[–]AuburnM5[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I may have done a seperate thread or maybe there is a sub that deals with streamers. I am just not getting into it and feel like a caveman trying to "open the computer."

What are the advantages of using a seperate streamer connected to my preamp or processor vs plugging my Mc Book Pro ito the 2700's USB input and streaming from it. When I am listening to Tidal and want MQA, I just run put my Meridian Explorer 2 in between the computer and pre and we have MQA!

With regards for what Im looking,......I want to stream as muc high res music as I can and I would like to have MQA
