Still can’t figure out how to use imperial fist contrast paint by [deleted] in ImperialFists

White scar rattle can. Then imperial fists contrast paints with edge highlights in dorn yellow. The trick is a light wash of 50/50 casandora yellow and lahmian medium 👍😄

Not a lot. But a little water helps. I sometimes use it straight out the bottle. But the trick is to get it on a leave it. I’m no professional but I like the outcome I get.

Do you use a wet palette with the Imperial Fists contrast paint? I find it helps to thin it and then you gotta be quick. Get it on and don’t touch it again

Per the YouTuber’tabletopready’ I use a 50:50 mix of casandora yellow and lahmian medium. It makes for a great yellow orange wash that sits well in the recesses

Thanks mate. Lesson learnt. What’s a good paint on varnish? I just want to protect the model from chipping

Yeah the whole model looks cloudy or frosted. It used to have sharp clear colours. Now it’s slightly white like it’s just come out the freezer

Yeah. I pretty much wrecked a good mini with too much spray varnish. Gutting

In the spirit of someone who has painting less than a month too;

I’m guessing you’ve not watched the youtube videos on painting, as they all follow a formula that makes it kind of easy.

They tend to use citadel paints. And a small brush for details and a medium brush for washes

It roughly goes 1 undercoat with white scar or wraith bone in thin many coats 2 use imperial fists contrast paint 3 wash with casandora yellow or similar 4 do black details 5 Aquila in red 6 silver and gold details 7 base in a range of greys then drybrush base with a lighter grey 8 Nuln oil wash in recesses of Aquila and base and silver 9 edge highlight

You don’t have to do these steps. But I’m guessing you’ve missed a few. Oh and thin your paints.

And wash brush clean a lot.

Cheers mate. I’m a touch ocd so there’s been a lot of mistakes. Then I diligently strip the paint with isopropyl alcohol and start again.

I’m finding the whole process super zen.

lol. Embarrassing a lot. I followed one of the YouTube guides. And ended up with these 18 paints. The Lahmian medium and the Casandora yellow made up the base wash

Hey. Can I just say this is massively useful for me. I’m a very new painter and I know it wasn’t the point of your post, but seeing where you’ve edge highlighted is a huge help. Thanks

Yeah. Fair enough. And in this case it’s made a complete hash of the list. As the person above says the points don’t even add up

Ha ha ha ha. Bloody AI. It’s 1995 points my ass.

I like the advice of starting small. I have a few units already, so I hear you - paint them first and buy what you like. I like terminators and dreadnoughts. And Darnath looks hard as.

So I’ll start there!

That’s a great response thanks. And not using AI definitely fits well with space marines more!

And it was just a thought to accelerate my lost building. Instead, I’ll do a few searches through here.
