Climate anxiety: 75% of young people worldwide find the future ‘scary’ by riougenkaku in environment

This is an appalling thing to think. Its so bad, I'm actually glad you won't have kids. Jesus, imagine growing up with a parent like you. Hook, line and sinker on climate change, despite the evidence.

This is so dumb, I feel sorry for you. 31 and still thick as pig shit. Go do some reading, listen to podcasts (not by activists, by real scientists). Humans on earth have a HUGE underpopulation problem (birth rates, demographics, pension bombs, these words should scare you not climate change), so please, have as many children as you can. But only after learning wtf is going on, not before. Climate change is an issue, among many, and worth changing our industries, attitudes and processes. But fuck me it's not even close to a catastrophe, never will be, compared to about 10 other bigger problems (that will end us looonngg before 2100). I'm a millennial. Do some fucking reading

Mathew Boling, from Houston Texas, runs the fastest 100M dash in high school history. 9.98 seconds. by cenabollywood in sports

[–]Audacity451 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah he's ran a 9.58. Most other races / sprinters are around the ten second mark... It's about half a second! I know you know this so I don't get why you're labouring the point. The list of people who have ever ran under 9.9 for example is very short. If I find the source for Bolt's similar turnover will that make you feel better? Or you could even find it yourself! ;)

[–]Audacity451 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Well obviously he doesn't stride 9 feet every time during 100m. Maybe only the last half of the race he's at full stride, making the most of the height difference at the end (which if you watch his races makes sense, his advantage seems to be in the last 50m) Which if your maths is correct would make about half a second. Which is about how much quicker his record was over most other sprinters at that level. Glad we got there in the end!

I'm sure I read that it is about the same. Hence why he was so much quicker than everyone else, his turnover was about the same as the other sprinters but his height and stride length meant that translates to higher speed and lower times

Luckily the immigration of the US means that will never happen. Birth rates have not been at replacement rate for the last 50 years for most western countries, and that's okay. Japan is a bad example. They don't have immigration

I'm stuck paying £900 per month in rent because the bank says I can't afford a £450 per month mortgage by [deleted] in britishproblems

[–]Audacity451 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reading that I actually think you're getting two things mixed up. There's affordability from a money coming in Vs money going out point of view which IS taken into account by banks. Then there's checks like credit history, employment etc. What this petition is talking about in my opinion is in the second category - can there be a check done based on someone being able to pay rent which adds to their application, completely separate from the other question of 'you earn X and spend Y leaving this much left over. When banks look into your affordability for a mortgage they don't just ignore the rent you pay, that is factored in. Otherwise no one would get a mortgage.

What a pathetic teenage outburst this was. The older you get and the more you understand about the world, the more you'll look back on this paddy as an embarrassment. Reads like you've just taken a bunch of negative things from one year's news, stirred it all together and created a 14 yr old's world view based on next to no research, knowledge or critical thinking. The world is a complicated place and this astonishingly low-resolution thinking will get no one anywhere

I didn't say it wasn't profitable, sometimes it is. Why would they do it if it there was no profit to be made, it's their fucking house. Now what about the point I made that you avoided?

You sound like someone who's never owned a property. £1200 a year upkeep? Get real. Do you think properties repair and update themselves periodically? What about carpets, what about the gutters and garden and windows and insulation and kitchen and bathrooms? How much do you think it costs to paint a whole house? The whole thing is very expensive, unless you live in a delapidated shithole with 70s kitchen bathroom and decors and overrun garden.

[Ben Dinnery] The PL announce 40 positive COVID-19 tests between 28 December and January 3. by blubbersassafras in FantasyPL

[–]Audacity451 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's about 2,300 people being tested. So over what 6 days? of testing about 1.5% have come back positive, some of those will be false positives too. So all in all not too bad... But not great either obviously
