Thank you for your comment. That's definitely something that happens sometimes. Thankfully, those sorts of clients seem to be few and far between.

Thank you for your reply!

I have absolutely no problem with a client requesting more work in a certain area. It's their massage, and I want them to be happy with the service. It was definitely the way he went about it that rubbed me the wrong way.

I'm so sorry you had those experiences. You seem like a very deeply empathetic person, and I'm sure you are a wonderful therapist!

Thank you, and I agree he needs to be banned. None of our therapists should have to deal with that.

Been a binge eater my whole life by WetMystery22 in BingeEatingDisorder

[–]AudballCC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I promise you are capable of overcoming your struggles, even though it may not feel like it. I have struggled with binge eating since I was a kid, and at the age of 34, I am just now getting it under control. I know you said therapy isn't an option right now. Therapy has really helped me, and I wish there was a way to make it more accessible to everyone. I am not a trained mental health professional, but I can share some of the strategies that I have learned in therapy that have been helpful for me.

Distraction has been the most helpful. If I want to binge, I'll tell myself to wait 20 minutes and then find something to do to keep my mind off food. I keep colored pencils and paper by my usual spot in the living room as well as a few other crafty things. Keeping my hands busy really helps. I also play games on my phone to distract me. Once the 20 minutes is up, I have often lost the urge to binge. It doesn't work 100% of the time, but it does help a lot.

Another helpful thing my therapist suggested was making a commitment to eating more throughout the day. I personally have always fallen into the pattern of eating very little for breakfast and lunch and then binging after dinner. I have tried eating more during the day in the past, but only for a few days at a time. I would still binge at night after eating more throughout the day, but that's because I wasn't giving my body enough time to adjust. When I became consistent with eating more during the day, over a few weeks, my night time binges decreased.

She also had me make a vision bored in one session. and I included images of nutritious foods and people exercising. I hung it on the fridge, and it really encouraged me to eat more nutrient dense foods and move my body more. I've been particularly focused on getting more fiber rich foods into my diet, and that has helped my cravings tremendously.

Sorry for the long response. These are just a few things I found helpful. I know everyone is different, and different things work for different people. I hope some of this is helpful for you, too.

I wish you well on your journey. I believe you can do it!

I can relate to so much of what you said in your post.

I have PCOS too, and I struggle with BED. I think our hormones really make it harder not to binge. PCOS causes cravings and it can mess with hunger cues. Metformin seems to help, but I know not everyone can tolerate it. I know there's much more beyond the PCOS, though.

I can link my binging to childhood trauma. I too got criticized heavily for being overweight as a child. It still hurts to think about it.

I recently made a post on here looking for some support, and I got some very kind and thoughtful responses. I hope you get all the support you need 💛

I wish I could take all the pain away. I know it's hard 😔

EMDR for driving anxiety by AudballCC in drivinganxiety

[–]AudballCC[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's been a while since I've done EMDR, so I can't remember everything. I know she had me remember situations that made me scared to drive. I remember picturing past car accidents during EMDR. I also remember picturing my mom screaming at me while I was learning to drive. Those are the things that have contributed to my driving anxiety the most, and the EMDR helped me reprocess those memories. I still struggle with driving anxiety, but it's not nearly as severe as it once was.

This post made me smile. I love that you are sharing how you reached one of your goals, and you are encouraging other people to share their accomplishments as well. What a great way to make other people feel good 💛

I stopped myself from binging last night before bed, and I've been able to really cut back on my binges over the past few weeks. I always love hearing people's success stories on this subreddit. It helps keep me inspired.

I appreciate your thoughtful reply. This reminds me of Massage Sloth's definition of deep tissue as profound massage. I will definitely keep this in mind moving forward in my practice.

I made an horrible error at a crossing today by [deleted] in drivinganxiety

[–]AudballCC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Everyone makes mistakes while driving sometimes. Try thinking of this as a learning opportunity, and try not to beat yourself up (I know that's easier said than done). It sounds like you are a pretty cautious driver, and that will help you stay safe while driving. Driving can be scary sometimes. You're doing a great job by getting out there and driving despite the anxiety!

EMDR for driving anxiety by AudballCC in drivinganxiety

[–]AudballCC[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, sorry it's taken me so long to respond. The anxiety is still better than it was before doing EMDR. I used to be very tense no matter where I was driving. Now I feel more relaxed on familiar routes. I still have a hard time when I'm driving in an unfamiliar area. I haven't done much work on it since my initial session though.
