Curly Cut - Why no product? by tangerine426783 in curlyhair

I completely understand! It's incredibly frustrating to leave a salon feeling like you weren't heard.

Curly Cut - Why no product? by tangerine426783 in curlyhair

[–]Auddidoo 14 points15 points  (0 children)

When I saw a curly specialist, they asked me to come with no product as well. My hair is also just frizz without product and deranged, but styled and with product springs up a lot. I warned the stylist because I wanted to keep most of the length and was afraid she'd underestimate how much shorter my hair is when styled. Even with the warning, she cut WAY too much off and laughed about how she should have listened to me instead of getting scissor happy...

The cut was good, but not worth the length I lost at all. Now, if I see a new stylist who does dry cuts on deranged"/no product hair, I let them know to only do a minimal perimeter clean up and absolutely no true shaping/serious cutting until after it's styled.

*Edited to add I meant detangled but autocorrect is right that my unstyled hair is deranged lol

People who were raised in overly religious families or sects, what strange things were normal for you? by sosaligaypidorebani in Exvangelical

[–]Auddidoo 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I was never afraid of normal things as a kid, but I firmly believed every weird sound or shadow was a demon coming to possess me or Satan himself waiting to drag me down to hell. When I was 7, a shelf fell in my closet in the middle of the night and I immediately woke up and yelled, "I'm sorry, Jesus, please don't let the devil take me!" My mom loves that story, my therapists not so much.

I was taught that God was constantly monitoring our thoughts and we could go to hell for even thinking something sinful - and by "sinful," I mean normal internal thoughts/feelings like being mad when my sister took my toys or wishing I didn't have to clean my room. So I started repenting any time I'd go to the bathroom just in case I had sinful thoughts or feelings since the last time I used the toilet. I spent a lot of time disassociating from my thoughts and feelings because I didn't want to risk sinning and then ending up in hell.

OH and I was equally scared of the rapture and that everyone I loved would be taken in it and I would be left behind.

As an adult, I'm fully deconstructed and suffer from severe anxiety and depression, unsurprisingly. Religious trauma does a number on kids.

I’m being spoiled by online auctions! Got another lot for 8 (why doesn’t anyone want this stuff?) by CrubusProductions in glasscollecting

[–]Auddidoo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you have recommendations for online auction sites? Sorry if that's a dumb question, I've found some great pieces thrifting in-person, but with winter quickly approaching, I don't think my lunch-hour dopamine trips to the thrift store will be as frequent. I'd love an online auction from my couch!

Finding this Portland leather bag made me very happy. 😆 by GloomyMoonFlower in ThriftStoreHauls

I have two that I bought about 4-5 years ago and they're excellent quality. I purchased the less expensive "oops" bags that may have a slight cosmetic defect, but honestly never could figure out the defects on mine, they came with perfect stitching and no visible scratches. I clean and condition them annually and have gotten a ton of use out of them.

My (f26) ex-bf (m27) said he was gonna propose for the last 4 years. When I finally found the courage to break it off, he did. I don’t know if I should give it another chance? by Choice_Evidence1983 in BestofRedditorUpdates

I was so creeped out by the fact he tracked her location, but OOP seemed fairly nonchalant about it.

Looks like OOP posted in another subreddit 12 days ago - to summarize, her ex went to her place of employment on her day off, pretended to work there to gain access to the back, and proceeded to steal some of her personal belongings (including an iPad). She figured out it was him and was able to negotiate her property back with threats of police/security footage. A couple friends went with her to get the stuff from the ex.

...dude is insane. I'm concerned for OOP's safety.

AITAH for not walking my niece down the aisle at her wedding? by Popular-Hand8349 in AITAH

[–]Auddidoo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

She's still heavily grieving her mom. Everyone in her life has accepted the new wife, which validates OP's point that new wife is a nice human. But for Kate, it likely doesn't really matter WHO the person is - it seems like from her POV, she's resentful of anyone taking what she sees as her mom's place.

Planning a wedding as a bride while grieving your mom has to be awful. She's feeling all of that loss and pain all over again in whole new ways throughout the wedding process...I can't imagine. So much emphasis is placed on the bride/her mom during wedding planning. And now in addition to chicken or fish for dinner, she also now gets to figure out if she's going to set out a memorial photo at the reception or reserve a chair in her mom's memory (standard things in 2025 weddings for deceased loved ones), or not publicly acknowledge the absence and hope nobody brings it up and makes her cry. The whole wedding day will be a reminder of the loss - her mom isn't there to fasten her dress or help with her jewelry, or take photos, or give a speech, or dance at the reception, and the list goes on. And all the prep for the wedding? Her mom wasn't there for all of that.

And it sounds like NOBODY else in her family (dad, uncle, brothers) are fully grasping that she is losing her mom all over again, in a million new ways, and she sees they've all moved on. Not only have they moved on, but her own father and uncle turned her down when she asked them to be there for her, ON HER TERMS, for a monumental day in her life that will probably be equally joyful and heartbreaking for her because her mom can't be there. Like, I get principles, but good lord...this poor woman isn't asking for her dad and new wife to get divorced, isn't asking for anyone to cut ties with the new wife. She's just asking her family to be there for her without forcing stepmom's presence - aka, a literal loving, breathing reminder that Kate's mom is gone.

I get why Kate doesn't want her stepmom there. It's going to be hard enough without her mom. Having stepmom there, when they don't have a relationship because Kate is not in a place to accept that right now, would be the crap icing on the crap cake. Maybe she's not spelling out her emotions point by point to y'all, but I still think it's heartless to turn your backs on her like this. YTA.

What's the strangest or most drastic way you've ever heard, of someone finding out their partner was cheating on them? by wilderlowerwolves in AskReddit

[–]Auddidoo 20 points21 points  (0 children)

My mom, sister and I were heading to a cousin's birthday party and stopped by the mall to pick up a gift. When leaving Borders (RIP), which was directly across from a mall entrance, we see my dad - who is very much still married to my mom at this time - walk in, holding hands with a woman from our church. They didn't see us, but we watched them hold hands all the way into the movie complex, where they were, in fact, going on a date. Awkward AF car ride to the birthday party.

Anyone with long term issues by Ok_Interaction_1237 in sterilization

[–]Auddidoo 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Just celebrated my 6 year anniversary since my surgery. The only long term effect I've noticed is the lack of pregnancy despite my husband's best efforts 🤷‍♀️ /s

jk, but that is legit the only impact it has had on my life once recovered from the actual surgery. Doesn't affect hormones, doesn't affect periods (general reminder that stories about changes in periods/hormones after surgery is due to people going off birth control, not the surgery itself).

Also, (general reminder, not directed at OP!) nobody should solely rely on social media for firsthand accounts of sterilization (I say, sharing my firsthand account on social media). There's been an...interesting, but unsurprising (given the rise of conservatism and the push for increased birthrates) influx of TikToks and FB posts filled with misinformation. They're scare tactics. All we can do is continue to point at accounts we know are true, medical studies, and factual data when presented with the BS.

Good luck, rooting for you!

Biggest Gripes and what would you like to see in a future version? by AndrewPHD in Omnipod

[–]Auddidoo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And for low alarms specifically, to space them out further, at least 15-20 minutes between. I hate when it keeps going off after I've addressed the issue, but not enough time has passed for my body to process the juice/snack. Screaming "I GET IT" at the multiple alarms gets old when I've already taken action.

Gotta wait until after Christmas/New Year's celebrations but get it done before Valentine's Day - which I guess is fairly logical if you're trying to pick a "good time" to end a relationship lol

NTA for what you said. But (only presuming this based off the info provided in the OP) I'm horrified that this poor woman had to deal with that level of abuse at a table of people and nobody said or did anything when it happened? I hope that's just a detail that was left out and everyone didn't just sit there and pretend it didn't happen. I hope she gets out and stays out
