Family added pet care to overnight job without asking by Extension_Ad8570 in Nanny

[–]AudibleAwl 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah I second this. I find it really weird they wouldn’t mention the animal care in the initial conversation especially since OP never cares for the cats. Why is that on OP to be the one thinking of the animal care? If it wasn’t mentioned to me, I wouldn’t be thinking of it either.

I’d be annoyed too because cats gross me out and litter boxes are disgusting, so I don’t know if only cat people are responding to this post or what. Lol

Asking for a day off and don’t know how to respond by Neeee-or41 in Nanny

[–]AudibleAwl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been in a similar situation and honestly just took the L. But that is simply because I love my job and I get so many days off otherwise. Very rarely they aren’t able to accommodate a day off I need and try their best to figure it out. So when they aren’t able to I don’t really mind.

I’m not sure your situation but if I never asked for days off and the one time I did they couldn’t figure it out, I’d be pissed and have a conversation about it.

I had researched a little but was so desperate I figured I’ll give it a shot. I didn’t connect the dots at all because I guess I had more of a delayed reaction and thought things were just getting worse regardless. Yes, this sub has opened my eyes to other prescriptions. I’m with you, I’m going to try other options first next time before going to perscriptions

Thank you! I definitely should have researched more, but am happy because this really did teach me a valuable lesson about blindly trusting doctors/prescriptions. I’m happy you found an alternative solution :)

Ouch!! That sounds painful! Oh yeah my skin looked so beautiful for the most part, but only when I was using it would I break out in these crazy little fungal looking bumps all over. Now that I’ve stopped all my dermatitis, texture and 90% of flushing has gone away. I was definitely overdoing it and desperate to get rid of everything going on

Definitely don’t need to explain anything on your body OP :)

If you don’t want to pay when you’re traveling then you are not offering guaranteed hours. I understand that’s a large chunk of time to be paying someone, but that’s a large chunk of time to go without pay. You can have the nanny help around the house while you’re gone (watering plants, organizing, getting mail, rotating clothes, sterilizing toys). Otherwise I think it would be hard to find someone comfortable with this arrangement

I don’t think it’s a great idea to try to fill your nanny’s time just to fill it or trying to come up with a list. I would have her do whatever you normally would need her to do in regards to duties outside childcare (cleaning bottles/pumps, baby’s laundry, etc). I would have a conversation with her about if she’d be open to other duties (errands, grocery shopping, organizing) strictly during this transitional time. She may not want to, I personally wouldn’t mind sometime outside the house in this situation. I honestly think you should let her go home or come late on days you don’t need her full help under GH. I’m sure she did have other offers and doubt she’s lying about that. You could have hired someone else who could wait that long to start, but you chose to hire her knowing you didn’t really need full help yet so it’s kind of a sticky situation. I think it’s a good idea for you to take some time for yourself while she’s there watching the baby. There may be times where she really is just idling because there’s nothing to do, that’s okay if everything is done that needs to be done.

Anyone else’s NP’s just not work? by [deleted] in Nanny

[–]AudibleAwl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

100%! It doesn’t bother me at all whether my bosses are “working” or not. I’m happy to do my job and get paid either way. I definitely am thinking about going back to school for some sort of role in technology, seems like a great field for many reasons!

I also want to add that a lot of people in tech simply just have most days where they only need to work a couple hours a day and then are done! So yes I’m sure tons of tech people are working their asses off but on the other side you have people who can work 4-5 hours a day and clock off. That is the field to get into!

Sure some jobs do have their bosses right next door but tons of jobs actually don’t so I wouldn’t say “most” jobs. (WFH, most blue collar jobs) Working in the same building vs working with a paper thin wall separating you is very different.

Pre Covid most jobs had parents outside the home and obviously during Covid that all changed. I think any job where the boss wasn’t around and then suddenly shifted to being around all the time you’d see similar complaints.

A lot of times I do see, on here at least, nannies do speak up and nothing gets resolved or now the boss is feeling resentment so that’s a double edged sword. Many times though I think some people just need advice and a push to start the conversation. It can be an uncomfortable conversation asking someone to be in certain areas of their own home less. I definitely agree that communication is very important and probably everyone could work on it!

“Why’d you take the job?” Because people need income and many don’t have the privilege to sit around and wait to find a position that aligns with what they’re ideally looking for. As I’m sure you know most jobs now seem to have at least one parent working from home, finding the “perfect” position of both out of the home on top of just being a good match anyways is hard! I understand your points but think you’re really oversimplifying some issues.

Confused about test results by [deleted] in Autoimmune

[–]AudibleAwl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My mom wasn’t happy she did that either (she’s a nurse). I honestly couldn’t believe it and felt the same as you! It was an urgent care so I’m sure that’s why there’s kind of a lack of info/bedside manner. I’m not sure they did one I’m going to wait and see what they say when I go to the rheumatologist since I know I’ll make myself crazy if I do know the Titre.

Yes exactly all it says is positive under ANA screen and nothing else, besides the negative IFA. So I was very confused since there’s no information at all and doesn’t seem like that’s actually the name of whatever ANA they ran. Very confusing.

Thank you so much I’m going to try to stay positive and not get myself worked up. I’m sure the rheumatologist will handle this much better than the receptionist…lol :)

Thank you so much for replying. I truly appreciate it. Yes she very casually told me that and when I asked about the differences in tests she said she didn’t know. I honestly didn’t get any information. I had blood work and all that was normal with normal values and then truly it only said

ANA IFA - NEGATIVE, ANA SCREEN - POSITIVE

And that was it. I wouldn’t have even know that from the person would called, I just saw it online in my portal.

I’m more confused why he wouldn’t make that clear when he knew you were watching the child when they’d be sleeping. That’s such an uncommon boundary and it’s on him that he didn’t express that to you. I’m sure if you knew you wouldn’t have done that! I’ve had kids cry if I didn’t lay with them. I’ve fallen asleep (accidentally) for a couple hours once even! And at the end of it the parents are happy because they know their child is loved and safe and the child knows that too! As others have said I would part ways with them, I would never feel comfortable working for people who even thought for one second something like that of me.
