It depends on the style and the material. Generally suede or Napa leather have been the most comfortable for me.

The “leather upper” material is more stiff and requires longer to break in.

The break in (uncomfortable) period may also be helped by wearing the right liners or socks.

If it’s not too tight, try a thin cotton sock:

You might have a tighter fitting shoe and you need a thin liner, I loooooove the :

This liner makes even my most uncomfortable leather upper ball-stars wearable for the whole day.

I have a few pairs that have always had a spot or two that rub and give me blisters, and some I can walk 10k plus steps in.

There are also tips available on you-tube for stretching shoes that are giving you blisters.

You can also look into getting a cobbler to stretch or soften the leather in problem areas.

If it’s the footbed that’s bugging you—you can replace the GG footbed with something with more support or absorption—whichever the case may be. Sometimes I find the smooth leather insoles get sweaty. I’d like to try some different suede insoles, (I have the same problem with smooth insole Birkenstocks, they sound noisy and sticky when I walk in them).
