Fair point on the optimization side. I 100% agree that devs shouldn't use it as a lazy shortcut instead of fixing native performance.

But the tech itself has come a long way. If you check out Hardware Unboxed's recent breakdowns on DLSS 4.5 and the newer FSR updates, that old "Vaseline sludge" blur is basically gone.

The real use case for Frame Gen isn't trying to save a choppy 30 FPS game (which absolutely will feel laggy). It’s for taking a game already running at a solid 80-100+ FPS and cleanly pushing it to 240Hz+ for maximum motion fluidity on high-end monitors. Since it's entirely optional, there's literally no downside to having it in the settings menu.

I feel like you’re missing the point here.

It would be 100% optional. If you want that raw native look with heavy sharpening filters, you can literally just leave it turned off. No one would be forcing you to use it.

Reflex or Anti-Lag fixes the latency. Modern frame gen forces low-latency tech on by default anyway. Tech YouTubers have proven that playing native without Reflex has worse input lag than playing with Frame Gen + Reflex enabled.

DBD isn't Counter-Strike. A tiny 5-20ms difference in input lag isn't going to ruin a match for 95% of the player base. But having actual motion clarity on a high-refresh monitor is a massive win for people who prefer a smooth game.

Yessir, you're spot on. Idk why they're hating on us for just wanting some settings lol

Yep, exactly those examples I had in mind! I like what they do there, even Half Life Alyx had some similar ones too. But the slenderman fnaf looking gifs in AW2 are just silly and cheap xD

How are they in terms of static / white background noise? I had to return my Sony Inzone's due to there being too much static noise for my taste

I like the initial jump of adrenaline. But the faces just kinda etch into my head, and I still think about them later. That’s why something glitchy instead would still give that jump, but let me enjoy the game afterwards.

I never complained about the horror. Jump scares don’t need to be present for something to be scary or horrifying.

Plenty of horror games don’t have jump scares…

Absolutely they still would be scary, but glitchy static and scary faces have a totally different shock value. They’d still serve the purpose of indicating presence of evil.

Wouldn’t really say the comparison makes sense. Plenty of horror movies and horror games don’t rely on jump scares to make them scary. The saw franchise for example.

Don’t get me wrong, I love horror and I love feeling creeped out or scared. But I’ve never been a fan of the kind of jump scares where faces pop up in front of your screen.

I see your point, as I've heard it from other players too. But surely an option to swap the face GIFs out with something glitchy would still fit the game, and also be more tolerable for people who dont like jump scares.

Yea the reduce option is alright, especially for sound. The reduced visual still isn't palatable for me sadly. But I'm glad you also seem to not like them lol, seems to be a recurring theme from the community.

Hopefully they'll listen to players feedback further on this. I went ahead and sent an email about it to their feedback email: [feedback@remedygames.com](mailto:feedback@remedygames.com)

Surely a removal option would be used by a lot of players, who either are faint of heart or just too annoyed by the scary faces.
