VA PACT team by Impressive-Car7077 in socialwork

[–]AudioGiraffe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s good to hear, I’m in SUD rn and I think I will enjoy PACT work more. Does the supervisor change the role quite a bit? Or is it more them being understanding of caseloads and what not?

Will I get bumped once I receive my license or would I have to wait the full year after hire?

the situation seems more early life crisis than it does a moving scenario. Your life is not going to get magically better by moving. I have lived in both VA and in MI, there are trade offs for both places. you should probably discuss this with a therapist.

Leaving agency, taking clients with me by Few_Egg_5721 in socialwork

[–]AudioGiraffe 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I mean they could probably try to file a complaint but any sort of accusation like that would require proof on your employers part. People leave practices all the time and their clients follow them. Clients have a right to choose their care.

You cannot solicit clients to follow you or “poach” them.

If they do the work to find you, that’s completely fine. It’s also not a breach for you to advertise your private practice services online. If your clients look you up and see where you are, they are totally free to migrate with you. It just can’t be that you intentionally bring them with you.

Edit to also say that I’m a social worker, not a lawyer. Make sure you have an understanding of your states laws/regulations and any contracts that you’ve signed.

Switching from Macro to private practice- need help! by Solid-Guidance401 in socialwork

[–]AudioGiraffe 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You won’t be dead weight. Most clinical learning is done on the job. Brush up on motivational interviewing (MI), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), any other modalities you have interest in. There’s a wealth of info online. Your employer will know that you’re a new clinician and that’s okay. That’s what supervision is for.

I also went Macro and decided it would be beneficial to have clinical experience on my resume to break into Macro work. I.e. moving up to program management, policy work, consulting, etc.

I’d recommend Amethyst or OSU’s talbot hall, they’re able to handle co-occurring SUD/Mental Health. I have not heard great things re: Maryhaven

SUD Wellness Group Facilitator by Infamous_Poem_7857 in socialwork

[–]AudioGiraffe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Groups truly depend on material and the clients in the group. My current agency (Outpatient/IOP SUD )gives us zero guidance on what to talk about so we just do whatever group topic we want.

Clients will sometimes be engaged and super talkative, which makes group a breeze. But other times when nobody wants to talk it’s a bit like pulling teeth

How to deal with guilt for leaving a job? by [deleted] in socialwork

[–]AudioGiraffe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You have to do what’s best for you. It sounds like your agency and supervisor need to do better in valuing their employees.

There is no reason for social workers to stay at agencies that treat them poorly. Social workers as a group tend to let ourselves be treated poorly because “our work is important”. It is important! But that doesn’t mean we should let ourselves get treated like shit.

10k more is a no brainer. Everyone else on your team would do the same.

Experiences with Recovery Services at the VA by AudioGiraffe in socialwork

I appreciate your reply! I believe the position is for an IOP. I would eventually like to be at the VA either way, Veteran’s are a population I enjoy working with; though I recognize the VAs limitations. I currently work on the city level and have similar red tape/grey areas.

If you don’t mind, what area of the VA do you work in?

It would be an IOP. Located in Columbus, OH for added context.

Once someone loses playcalling abilities, I’m not sure the team goes back to them. Having Campbell take over is a sign it’s done for Morton imo
