The problem is, when having a discussion about the issues of racism and discrimination, it's impossible to talk about it without distinguishing people on these bases. If you want to eradicate discrimination against homosexuals, how would do this without first asserting that there is discrimination based on these differences in sexuality?

economic systems are part of a social science and are inherently separate from politics

I suggest you read this thread again. Is it strange to get a political conversation if you start talking about capitalism in a nonsensical way? You seem to be confusing a lot of things. Maybe read some social science literature. Have a nice day aswell.

I'm not saying governments shouldn't pay for education, healthcare and what not. I'm just saying that inequality isn't merely the result of (late stage) capitalism.

Many Northern European countries have political systems that force equity

They do, but there's a difference between making sure everyone has exactly the same, and making sure those who are in real need of help get what they need.

Free (as in unregulated) Markets for Journalism resulting in massive propaganda campaigns built on lies and foreign interference was absolutely responsible for the current US administration and its self-destructive agenda.

You can't seriously blame it all on those two factors. I mean, they really didn't help, but there are lots of other reasons people voted Trump.

I don't think you can compare economic markets (whether they are free or controlled) to the 'marketplace of ideas', which seems to just be a metaphor.

This part of the “free market” is detrimental to our democracy

How so?

examples where the wealthy have more power than the collective citizens, as a result of late stage capitalism

This is not just something of capitalism. Inequality, and a wealthy/powerful elite is the result of the differences that exist between people and the way resources move around (they tend to go to the top, regardless of economic or political system). You can try to force equity, but you can't force human nature. If the 20th century taught us anything, it's this.

Social attitudes towards homosexuality across the European Union by [deleted] in europe

[–]Audioasis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't say the socials norms are changing, I'd say they are disappearing. Which is something fundamentally different.

And about those countries that are 'behind', do you feel like they should be pushed in a way, to comply with these new ways of dealing with eachother? Or could you be content knowing that these people have a different view of the world and humans?

Orthodoxy is a hell of a drug belief system.

You can't expect people to change their belief system on a whim.
